Searching for this block!

I found this block on pinterest. I tracked it back to the lady who made it. She said she found it in an old Quilters Newsletter magazine, but can't find the magazine. Does anyone here have any info on it? I would love to make it and just need to find the source. Thank you!

what a fabulous block! i agree, would be fairly simple to draft, or, you can write to Quilter's Newsletter & ask them for the issue it was in & if they have it available for sale. this appears to be a original block, not traditional. they used to publish many original blocks in years past. i have subscribed to them since '86 & don't remember this block. but w all our moving around i am sure i missed more than a few issues  please post again when you find out more about it?

I totally agree - beautitul block and would love the pattern!

juneayerza 05-21-2015 05:00 PM

I too like the block. It opens up possibilities for creating other similar blocks. Ok, people who use EQ7 and design PP blocks what do you think? Can you come up with something?

Tartan 05-21-2015 05:21 PM

I am wondering if the house part of the block isn't pieced in a regular square block and then cut into segments with a degree ruler. It is then set into a sort of Drunkard Path block. Anyone have a house block laying around to try it?

quilterpurpledog 05-21-2015 05:45 PM

It looks like it could be paper pieced to me.

Chester the bunny 05-21-2015 05:55 PM

OK.......I found that picture I think on pinterest and it leads to a lady by the name of Chris Jurd. She has a blog but I couldn't find that picture; I looked at it going back to July 2012 and then I got a cramp in my thumb :o)
Her is her blog where I left off http://chrisquilts.blogspot.ca/searc...&by-date=false

She has amazing talents to say the least.

kheliwud 05-21-2015 06:09 PM

Found it! Thanks to a member here! It is "Haus Fans" by Brenda Groelz and was in the Sept 1996 issue of Quilter Newsletter. Which I just found and purchsed off ebay! This message board and its members Rock!!!

jonese 05-21-2015 07:30 PM

I just purchased off ebay also. Love this pattern!!!

thrums 05-21-2015 10:51 PM

Thanks for the info. Now how many of us will look for this block pattern on ebay. :0)

ManiacQuilter2 05-22-2015 04:52 AM

Cute pattern. Will be searching for it too!! Next year my group block will be a house. Not sure you can put this block on EQ7.

Geri B 05-22-2015 04:54 AM

I find many things on amazon, but how do you do it on eBay?

Taughtby Grandma 05-22-2015 05:42 AM

To me it looks like a take on Franny's fan. It looks like it might be paper pieced, but you could do it with the blade for the fan, then applique it to the base and add the center piece.

tinliz 05-22-2015 07:39 AM

I remember seeing it in a quilt mag. Thought it might be Quilters Newsletter. I disposed of many books when I moved. I will have to check to see of I still have that edition.

Dodie 05-22-2015 07:57 AM

If you can find that lady that says it was in a quilter news letter ask her if she knows the year or number on the magazine as I have about 25 years of quilters news letters and I could look however I do not remember that exact pattern but somewhere in stacks and stacks of magazines I have one similar but it is appliqued and called house on a hill

madamekelly 05-22-2015 01:08 PM

I have several old copies of QNM, I will check them today abd see if I ave it....

nycquilter 05-22-2015 05:54 PM

probably repeating others...it looks paper pieced to me, too.

juneayerza 05-22-2015 07:42 PM

It is paper pieced. The maker of this block, Brenda Groelz, has PP books on Amazon.

vickster 05-22-2015 08:00 PM

darn everybody must have beat me to this as I cant find it on ebay I love this block.

ghostrider 05-23-2015 04:28 AM

I dug out my copy of that issue just to see how it was made. Yes, paper pieced and the trick is to start each of the eight pieced wedges from the opposite end so the seams nest when you put them all together. Pretty smart idea. Directions (and yardage) are for both a 6" and a 9" block and it's rated as intermediate (skill level).

tessagin 05-23-2015 04:53 AM

I thought it was paper pieced also (the middle section).

Oh, Ghost, and I thought I was bad about hanging on to old quilting mags. You got me beat! Darn, no laughy face here.

I couldn't find Franny's fan. Could you send me a link to it? Thanks!

thrums 05-23-2015 05:12 PM

There's one left on Amazon. I took the one with the damaged cover and left one of you the pristine copy. :0)

I love this block

kheliwud 05-24-2015 12:16 PM

I just searched on Google for the magazine with date! The ebay entry was one of the results.

debbieoh 05-24-2015 06:18 PM

Taughtby Grandma 05-24-2015 06:58 PM

I have the pattern for Frannys Fan in an old book I inherited from my sister.

Maureen 05-25-2015 04:55 AM

Definitely paper pieced.

quilt9226 05-25-2015 02:59 PM

I have the pattern. I took it out of the magazine and kept it. It is foundation pieced. PM me with your address and I'll send it to you. I'll send you the original pattern because I know I will not make it. I'm still working on a foundation pieced sampler quilt that has 200 4" blocks around a medallion. It was started in the 90s.

quilt9226 05-25-2015 03:05 PM

addition to my previous post: the name of the quilt is Haus Fans and was in the September 1996 Quilters Newsletter. The designer is Brenda Groelz

Topazjewel 10-26-2018 05:50 PM

It is a free pattern online at http://oldwww.quiltersnewsletter.com...-November-2015

Adorable block and so glad you found it. It does look like it is pieced and then cut with some kind of ruler-almost like a dresden plate ruler. You are right---everyone on this QB is terrific. Some great detectives on here. Please share with us if you make a block. Would love to see yours.

No special rulers needed; the house part is actually paper-pieced, then the whole block is assembled like a Drunkard's Path block.
