Seasonal quilts

I keep seeing all of these beautiful patterns for Fall Quilts, like the Maple Leaf. I made a fall table runner using the OBW method and it turned out really pretty. My question is.... How many of you make seasonal quilts, wall hangings, table runners or bags? And, which ones do you make? Christmas, Fourth of July, Something springey?????

Inez Ruth 09-16-2013 04:18 AM

I make seasonal wall hangings for all seasons and holidays. I love to decorate with them.

Tartan 09-16-2013 04:22 AM

I do have table runners for Christmas and Easter. I also have a front door hanger with a little monthly quilt that I button on. I don't have seasonal table runners as in winter, spring, summer and fall. Why don't I have seasonal runners? I need seasonal runners!

Crafty Darlene 09-16-2013 04:25 AM

I've made Fall and Christmas quilts and a couple of purses. I've got my maple leaf fall quilt on my bed right now. Wish I had time to do a lot more!

nanna-up-north 09-16-2013 04:30 AM

One of the 1st quilts I ever made was a Christmas quilt.... I put it over the back of the sofa during the holiday season. The 1st quilt I ever made was a red, white, and blue lover's knot..... put it on the bed at the cabin for memorial day and the 4th of July. I've been wanting to make a fall quilt, a Halloween quilt, an Easter quilt.... but won't let myself do it until I have 2 more UFOs done. I love the seasonal quilts.

Donnajean, You have done some beautiful work!

Donnamarie 09-16-2013 06:28 AM

I made wallhanging for most holidays. I also use tablerunners every day so I seem to make a lot of them. You can never have too many. I use a table runner on my kitchen table, hall table, and sometimes on my coffee table. It's fun to decorate my house with all the quilts I have made.

Rose Marie 09-16-2013 06:40 AM

I love fall colors so tend to buy more of those.
Decided to only make quilts that fit over the back of my sofa. My daughter likes that idea too.
So seasonal quilts will be great for that.

I have done some for Winter and Fall. This is one I call "It Must Be October". It's still in progress.

Donnajean, your Halloween wall hanging is spectacular!! You have a wonderful talent.

Butterfli19 09-16-2013 06:44 AM

@donnajean -- those are great! Your design?

valleyquiltermo 09-16-2013 06:54 AM

Donna Jean and Boston1954, I love your lil quilts.

charsuewilson 09-16-2013 08:05 AM

I make quilts I like, not for a particular season. I've made a few seasonal wall hangings, table runners, and I could see doing a table cloth/table topper. Why make a quilt to be stored away most of the year?

But the Halloween quilts are cute.

Not my designs. I'm not that talented. I used purchased patterns.

RedGarnet222 09-16-2013 08:23 AM

I love making placemats, table runners and bed runners as gifts. They are not so large that the cost and work keep me from sharing my work with friends and family. That being said, I slowly am making quilts to give to them too. It is just so dang expensive!

I did save a couple runners for us. I enjoy having the main table decorated for the season. Have you all seen the great decorator bed pillows they are selling now? I plan on making some to give. Check out steinmart on line, or crate and barrel. So cute! The pillow graphic images vary from bicycles to giraffe's. Mine in my room are robin's.

mighty 09-16-2013 08:56 AM

Just start making some wall hangings. Made a twister wreath for Christmas, and a Mr October for halloween.

OKLAHOMA PEACH 09-16-2013 09:14 AM

They are on the to do list, am now making purse bottoms for different seasons and OU football and Thunder basketball. I made the purse out of Simplicity #2676, love it, but next one will add a zipper compartment.

TexasSunshine 09-16-2013 10:49 AM

I love to have tablecloths in all the seasons. I have a round 48" table and have one for Christmas, fall, spring, summer and several more that can be used any time of the year. I also have tablerunners for a buffet that match the tablecloths.

Jingle 09-16-2013 11:53 AM

I just pick out fabrics and make them into quilts. Usually fall ones I give to men or boys. I haven't really made any for specific holidays.

maminstl 09-16-2013 12:10 PM

I am the anti-theme quilt girl. I see cute fabrics, but I don't decorate for anything, and unlikely to start, so I pass it all right by. Of course, I could change my attitude at any time if a project really grabs me. Right now I keep seeing this quilt that looks like a big present that appeals to me. Thinking about it, maybe I should make something that looks like a Christmas tree, then just hang it up on Christmas Eve when I have family over.

mom-6 09-16-2013 12:17 PM

So far I've only done major holiday decor for Christmas. Have a little bit for fall, winter and patriotic, most of which has been claimed so I don't really have it either. Lol!

busy fingers 09-16-2013 12:26 PM

I love to make seasonal tabletoppers and runners. I have winter, autumn, spring and summer as well as Christmas, Easter & St Pats Day.

lynnie 09-16-2013 01:26 PM

I've got minis for the front door and tablerunners for all holidays. now i'm making for the extended family

bigsister63 09-16-2013 01:39 PM

I made a 30x30" wall hanging of the same pattern with a different focus for each month. I change them out monthly. I also have seversl counted cross stitch pic that I change with the season. I also decorated for the 4 seasons with added things for holloween and easter. I usually decorated month of DEc for Christmas and then change to snowman Jan -March. I use some wallhangings. But it seems to be getting less and less as I get older. as for purses- I use one for summer and then one for winter. Am too lazy to change more often

Scissor Queen 09-16-2013 02:04 PM

I have seasonal table runners I use on my hutch and a 16 x 20 inch wall hanging for every month. I'm working on a set of monthly wall hangings 8 x 24. I also have several larger wall hangings that are seasonal. I have two more in mind for my 30 x 40 inch series. One will be summer flowers on a "brick wall" background. The fall one will be cattails and a giant frog on a jelly roll batik background.

wesing 09-16-2013 02:54 PM

We have plans and some fabrics for seasonal quilts, but the time to make them is the problem. Our first class quilts were for winter, and we have Christmas, Halloween, patriotic, harvest, and rainy day fabrics. Our idea was to rotate them in the den where we spend most of our time. So far they're just ideas.

nygal 09-16-2013 03:14 PM

For some reason I am unable to post pictures here again. I don't know what changed that I am unable to do so. Anyway, I do have many seasonal wall hangings. You can see mine in my projects page. Today I hung up the one with the big leaves and in my craft room I hung up a scarecrow panel that I loved and quilted. I have a few quilted wall hangings for thanksgiving, Christmas, fourth of July one, valentines and about three for Spring and Summer and a few for Winter. My favorite for winter is the snowmen peeking in the window. I LOVE that one. Check them out on my projects page if you would like to see them.

A "Mr. October"? Intriguing ... lol

GailG 09-16-2013 06:27 PM

I know this will sound peculiar, but after 33 years of holiday bulletin boards (that I loved doing when I was doing it!), I can't bring myself to do holiday anything. I love traditional patterns and try to think of them with great fabric combinations.

Akweiland 09-16-2013 06:34 PM

I second that!!! Love both of them!

I love different holiday quilts. My passion right now is hand embroidery mixed in with quilts blocks. I have four of the Crabapple Hill Halloween quilts done and out, as well as a pumpkin quilt that carries me through Thanksgiving. For the past four years I have been making embroidery patterns out of my DFIL's childhood valentines. The first quilt was redwork and the last one I also incorporated crayon tinting with the embroidery. Christmas and Easter each have a couple quilts to represent the holiday and I leave my patriotic quilts out from Memorial Day to Labor Day. After Christmas I bring out the snowmen quilts. Each season also has a tote bag to represent it. Changing things around makes life interesting and celebrating the holidays and seasons in these small ways makes time slow down a bit--now that I'm over 60 it is speeding up! Besides unpacking those quilts after a year is like reacquainting yourself with an old friend.

I just love your halloween quilt. Love the cobweb! Did you get this pattern online?

I added the spider & cobweb. The pattern is Goulish Fantasy by Pine Tree Lodge. I think I made that quilt at least 10 yrs.. ago. I think I still have the pattern if you want to PM me.

WMUTeach 09-17-2013 06:30 AM

Although I have a few seasonal quilts, I made them because they were exchange blocks from my guild. I prefer to make quilts that complement my home and reflect me rather than the season. As #1 piecemaker, I have some small items that are seasonal that are decorative quilted items.

Tiggersmom 09-17-2013 08:46 AM

I have all seasons.......some finished, some still need work or are in the planning stages. Since Christmas is only a month long I have a 'winter' wall hanging. I'm making more table runners and placemats for each season. Can't have too many! jmho...:D

Jennifer

ps: donnajean, can I steal your idea for your Christmas wall hanging? Love it!

asimplelife 09-17-2013 09:40 AM

I am looking forward to making more seasonal quilted items, I love having my surfaces decorated with small quilts and a couple of lap quilts too. Christmas, winter, Valentines, Easter, spring/summer, 4th of July, Halloween and fall would be on my list.
