Recyler, here how it works: I send out a daily prompt, in this case to me and my friend MJ. Based on that prompt we create a single quilt block.
It is entirely up to the quilter how they want to interpret the prompt. The one thing for us to keep in mind as we do this is that we are doing a prompt a day, so you can't spend much time on the block. The concept has to be fairly simple and easy to piece. Some prompts are much easier to interpret than others, and some may find a prompt easy where another found it difficult. In my case I try not to be literal in my interpretation, but use it as a springboard for creating something abstract...kind of informed abstraction! |
Can you post pic of you blocks?

PS I have found that working from a prompt like this has really sparked my creative juices and got me burrowing into my stash. Jeepers I have some great fabrics in there!

The first set of blocks in on Instagram account "westernwilson"!

Thanks for the short course on prompts, WesternWilson! I was gone the day they passed out imaginations, so I don’t have great hopes for me, but will love to see more examples from you and others! I did go to your Instagram page and love all you have on there!

not everyone does Instantgram
I am not on any social media and would really love to see your creations on the Board. Would you post pictures here, I hope.

Jan I will try to do that. But maybe we could all participate? How be we all take a shot at creating a block, based on the prompt below? It will be fun to see what everyone comes up with:
PROMPT "A quiet corner of the garden" -make a single quilt block inspired by that prompt. Any size, any technique. Try not to spend too much time on it, this should come together in under 2 hours. |
I love the idea of creating a block.
