sew, sew, sew!

It's 1:00 AM and I have to be at work at 7:00 - sew, sew, sew
I just finished a project, but then I started another - sew, sew, sew
Two hanging over chairs all sandwiched and waiting to be quilted - sew, sew, sew
Even the dog is whining cause I'm not in bed, but I sew, sew, sew
My back is starting to hurt, but I sew, sew, sew
Four-year-old grandboy staying with us for the next two weeks - he's sleeping soundly now, so I sew, sew, sew

Is this a disease? Am I obsessed or possessed?

quiltsRfun 05-24-2012 10:17 PM

It's 12:at am here. You're sewing, I'm checking the Quilting Board. Whatever it is, I'd say we both have it real bad.

JanTx 05-24-2012 10:21 PM

well, between sewing I'm on here too! Bad on top of bad?

Why does it say that? I edited it twice to show the zeroes. - 12:00 - Let's see if that works!

Jan, I did a little sewing earlier in the evening. But I can't stick with it like you do. For one thing, my back bothers me if I sit at the machine too long. And for another, when I get tired I make BAD mistakes. So I've learned when to quit. It's better in the longrun since I usually end up unsewing if I try to continue when I'm tired. I'm trying to finish a quilt for my granddaughter's graduation. What are you working on?

Pat625 05-25-2012 02:30 AM

I understand..it is like a disease!! Many times when I get going, it is real hard to stop~!! I am constantly thinking about the next thing on my list....At least we all have something we enjoy to do, which in turn ends up making others so happy!!

barri1 05-25-2012 02:34 AM

Yup..It's a disease.. I just finished reading the paper, and you guessed.. I'm on the computer reading the board..It relaxes me, and I will be heading to work in a fw minutes..

Sunnye 05-25-2012 03:43 AM

You sound more poetic than possessed! Good luck on all things.

Dolphyngyrl 05-25-2012 03:54 AM

Obsessed and Posessed, get some sleep, its not good to not sleep so the doctors say

Elainequilts 05-25-2012 04:42 AM

You are definitely hooked.

kountrykreation 05-25-2012 04:43 AM

... I'm impressed! I can't even remember the last time I was awake late enough to watch the 10pm news, let alone 1am. I say keep enjoying!!!

JanTx 05-25-2012 06:35 AM

I had 8 due dates in May - worse than Christmas! Six are done and working on the last two - almost done.

SunlitenSmiles 05-26-2012 03:13 AM

quilting is more relaxing then sleep......so there is no problem

Cindy60545 05-26-2012 03:24 AM

who needs sleep when we can quilt to relax! It's overrated anyway, right? If this is an obsession, don't put me in rehab!

I've fallen asleep while sewing!

Lavada 05-26-2012 03:49 AM

Sleep is that something NEW? thought you were suppose to do this at the wee hours of the night quilting i mean

stchenfool 05-26-2012 03:52 AM

Naw - you just love what you do! Nothing wrong with that!

MimiBug123 05-26-2012 04:34 AM

I've analyzed this and think we all suffer from OCQD (obsessive compulsive quilting disorder). I don't think it has a cure and hasn't been written up in any medical journals (YET). The only thing that seems to help is to quilt, quilt, quilt!

wildyard 05-26-2012 05:55 AM

I definitely have OCQD and the sub disorder that often accompanies it, CSB (Compulsive Stash Building). I understand they are looking into treatments for the OFP and CSC (Obsessive Fabric Petting and Chronic Scrap Collecting) but I am not willing to trust my health and well being to any of these new off the wall (I put things ON the wall- the design wall) things they keep coming up with.

MimiBug123 05-26-2012 06:20 AM

I agree with you, wildyard (got one of those too, but that's another chapter). I'm not a guinea pig, so they won't be doing any of the preliminary trials on me! LOLOL! I also have OFP and CSC. Hubby caught me petting my fabric and threatened to call the dingbat police. I told him to go ahead, but my sewing machine and fabrics go with me!

ShirlinAZ 05-26-2012 06:24 AM

If there is a cure - Please don't tell me about it!!! I love this disease and don't want to get over it!

Quilter 65 05-26-2012 06:35 AM

But it is a Magnificent Obsession! My husband thinks I have entered another world. He will say, "What are you looking at now?" I never thought I would be a computer-aholic, but I am a quilt-aholic and I am getting inspiration from this board.

pls1946 05-26-2012 06:36 AM

All this discussion is so funny!!!

qwkslver 05-26-2012 06:38 AM

Wish I could. I work, work, work. But I need the money. :) I sew when I can. Enjoy yourself, don't worry, be happy.

PolarBear 05-26-2012 06:52 AM

I like to call it dedicated!

KarenR 05-26-2012 06:58 AM

Love your poem.
You are not obsesses or possessed or have a disease.
Your in love with quilting.

luvTooQuilt 05-26-2012 07:14 AM

Late night sewing is when i get most done, no one under foot, no one asking to be fed, no phone ringing, no texts comin in..

Sure hope you had a BIG cup of coffee this morning..

bearisgray 05-26-2012 07:31 AM

Yes you are - to all the above. :-)

nanzone 05-26-2012 08:03 AM

OMG - how I envy your stamina- I wish I had just a little of it. You must be able to finish so many projects.

Halo 05-26-2012 08:48 AM

Guilty in the first degree to all above & loving it. Right at the moment I am working on two projects. A memory quilt made out of clothing for a friend that lost her DH not long ago, plus curtains for the Healing rooms new building we are moving into next week. I do my best work late at night & under pressure. My DD#1 laughs at me cause I will bump into someone just so I can touch them to say sorry just so I can feel the fabric of their clothing. I always put my hand on their shoulder & pinch the fabric to say sorry. Snicker! Snicker! She even tells people that when I go into a clothing stor that I don't go in to look at clothing. I go in to feel the fabric. LOL. Guilty again.

athenascooter 05-26-2012 09:39 AM

I have three quilts going. Two at the cabin and one at home. My husband is upset that I sew when at the lake but I had heat stroke and can't take the summer heat. In the winter when we go there I sew because it's too cold outside. Enjoy what you are sewing and using up your stash

CAS49OR 05-26-2012 11:34 AM

Yes! But then you can be obsessed with all the beautiful objects you now possess!

Is this a disease? Am I obsessed or possessed?

Old hen 05-26-2012 11:58 AM

I laugh when I read the QB, especially when I read things like "unsewing"! How we turn a negative thing into something positive, just because we love what we're doing.

SouthPStitches 05-26-2012 12:58 PM

It's both. Sometimes you just get on a roll and can't stop. You just can't wait to see how that entire quilt top looks. Then when you get to bed, you can't unwind or turn off your mind. First thing in the a.m., you jump out of bed and check the top out again to see what it looks like in nature light.

Can't answer your questions, but I dare say you'll be worn out by the time you read this reply.

Jingle 05-26-2012 05:47 PM

I don't sew late at night, I make too many mistakes. I do get on this board and play a couple of games when I should be in bed. 5:30A comes mighty early. Oh well, I sleep better now than I did years ago.
Do what you love to do.

momjoy6 05-26-2012 05:50 PM

Yes, I agree w/quilting being an obsession. Once I get in the groove, I have a hard time settling down for the night. Or getting into anything else. What better of an obsession is there to have though I ask, anyway?

I understand. We live on a lake, too hot today to be outside as I can't take the heat, so I sew! My dh asked me if I got the quilt done today as I have been sewing all day. Sadly, I haven't even touch the quilt, but made baby blankets instead :) He said "well maybe tomorrow". I said "okay" :)

Pilgrim 05-26-2012 06:38 PM

It's an addiction. Once we get it there is NO known cure.

tjradj 05-26-2012 07:09 PM

You say it like being obsessed or possessed is a bad thing. Not in my book :)

JanetLovesSewing 05-27-2012 08:41 AM

I have always loved to sew between midnight and 5 am. Unfortunately, I don't do much of that doing the week. Friday and Saturday nights are my thing. Now that summer is here, it is sewing more often for me. There is nothing like the hum and feel of two piees of fabric going through a sewing machine. Nothing can beat that - except eating when someone else has cooked.
