I like that a lot... although I guess that means I'd have to find my extension table lol.
I know I have one... at least I'm pretty sure I have one - I just never use it!

Great idea! Always looking for shortcuts and ways to make my sewing easier!

When I bind a quilt I've usually got my roll of binding on my right wrist; it feeds off nicely and doesn't tangle. I have also used an empty coffee can under my sewing cabinet, this works too.

Here's the link to the pic on the blog. Glad I could offer a bit of assist as I always love your suggestions!

Thanks so much!

A gal after my own heart!
I used to be so careful with winding binding but found that I spent more time unwinding it while sewing it on...now I just let it drape over the edge of the cabinet (yeah, I got a Koala, thanks DH) and have no problem.

If I'm doing a really large quilt, I might just use a lined basketr to hold the fan folded binding under my sewing area.

Great tip. Thanks will have to try it.

I like the idea of putting a pencil or dowel through the roll and setting it on top of an empty coffee can under the machine. (My sewing machine extension table doesn't have legs.) Thanks to the one who posted that.

Can anyone tell me where to buy a walking foot? . . . . My other machine is a Featherweight, which I also love. If anyone can tell me where to start looking for a walking foot, it would be great.

My first try would be www.Clotilde.com (no affiliation)

Thanks for sharing txstitcher. I'll be putting on binding in the near future and will certainly give this a try.

Thanks... but how else will I catch the dust bunnies? Kidding! Great idea!!!

purplefiend 10-25-2010 11:07 AM

Jan,
I have a Koala cabinet too. If I let the binding hang off the edge of the cabinet, one of my 4 dogs would think it was something to grab and run away with. EEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a great way to keep the binding off the floor when you are sewing it on your quilt. I will have to try it with the next quilt. Thanks for the picture.
