Thanks for the tute - I needed that!!! Not sure what I did wrong but the last quilt i did ( a small baby quilt) I tried a decorative stitch - not sure what I did wrong - I first sewed my binding to the backing using 1/4 seem allowance then folded over the binding to the front and used a decorative stitch - looked good on top but when I turned it over the back showed the decorative stitch away from the binding - looked really bad - will be looking for another tute on that lol

Always use a single thread. Bindings I put on with single thread 28 years ago (and washed at least that many times) are still looking good.

I was just going to ask about the ladder stitch when I noticed the link. Thanks for posting it. I'm going to go look at it and see if I want to do mine that way.

I always do mine by hand but I do like the idea of tryng some decorative machine stitching too. You ladies are always so smart and helpful.

I also sew with 2 threads. Just in case one breaks it is still supported with the second one until I can fix it.

I use double thread and blind stitch too.

I use single thread....no problem so far.

I use the "latter stitch" in an unusual way with a single thread most of the time, but if I know there is going to be lots of wear and tear I use double, like on a childs quilt that is going to be used and washed lots.
