I use a single thread, but use a good strong quilting thread.

Double, and I thread the needle with the doubled threads so I can begin without having a knot. (I hate knots!) Just take the first stitch and go through the loop when starting.

I hand sew to the back using a single strand of hand quilting thread treated with thread heaven or beeswax. I ladder stitch because it is nearly invisble.

I use a single strand and tiny slip stitch; no prob so far.

I always use a double thread, but if it is a quilt that will be used daily, require many washings, etc, I do it on the machine; I feel it is stronger if done by machine to withstand all the wear and tear it will recieve.

never even thought about using double thread....maybe i will try that on my next quilt......
