We were told we ONLY have 13 inches of snow, but the botton branches of the cherry tree in my front yard are under snow. I guess it is a "snow burst"! I feel bad for the folks without power. Good luck to all.

I can relate to that, Started getting lake effect here yesterday, well over a foot of snow, and it's still snowing this morning. Guess I'll just have to sew!

firecrackerpam 01-13-2011 06:37 AM

Oh, I wish they would cancel our work. Somehow we are always able to get in. Indiana is just used to this stuff and we make it no matter what.... :-(

Roberta 01-13-2011 07:14 AM

In Maine there were only two cities that qualified to be called a "Blizzard", Waterville and Augusta, and we're right between them both. Yes a blizzard it sure was and our television dish got covered with blowing snow so no TV last evening. Luckily we have a Roku box so I was able to watch tutes I'd downloaded from YouTube.

sewandsewcarol 01-13-2011 07:49 AM

we got 24-28 inches in w springfield Ma-no school yesterday no school today and will have to see about tomorrow. I drive the grandkids to school so i watch for school closings. I always enjoy days that i quilt.

lillybeck 01-13-2011 11:06 AM

I was in NC over Christmas and the snow the day after was great got about 5 inches where I was but in that area everything pretty much shuts down with weather like that. Could not even go to church.

sylvia77 01-13-2011 12:55 PM

Here in GA, we got more ice than snow and it shut down the cities for almost 5 days!

PattyS 01-13-2011 02:13 PM

Here in EastbTN we had 8 1/2" of snow which is very unusual for us. I have spent some time in quilting on a wallhanging then spent an evening ripping out a section I didn't like. I am a new long armer and it shows. Have learned a lot for sure but have enjoyed the snow.

jeank 01-13-2011 02:19 PM

My daughter and son-in-law in Conway AR said they had to move to AR to get their first snow day from work. Never happened to them in Ohio. LOL

Snow storms are always great sewing days!! As long as the power doesnt go off!!!!
we have about 19" here in central Maine....... but it blew all over the place!

kanakama 01-13-2011 03:33 PM

I did the same thing! Sat at my sewing machine all day looking out the window at all that white stuff. Perfect day.

ktyree 01-13-2011 04:14 PM

We seem to have had 15" or so, I'm bad at those kinds of things. Didn't get any sewing done, we lost power 2 times, each time for about 1 1/2 hours, then back on about 2 hours in the middle. Cut out a lot of pjs for the kids. Now I'll sew this weekend, after work.

auntiehenno 01-13-2011 04:22 PM

AHHHHH, i remember the snow dats from school. Of course, we had to make them up. So we could never make vacation or travel plans until June, 2nd week of, sometimes. But, I enjoyed them.

yesyoucan 01-13-2011 04:47 PM

I am in ct.and we got a record total of 29 inches.I have not gone in my happy place because it is not cleaned up from my last session of me time.

Gabrielle's Mimi 01-13-2011 05:21 PM

So glad to be away from the snow in Boston...my poor DD told me she and the upstairs tenant both shoveled for 2 hours since the snow blower couldn't handle it! I don't want to upset anyone back East so I won't tell you that it hit 71 degrees here today. Thank goodness for retirement!

MyraYU 01-13-2011 06:19 PM

Gosh, you guys are wimps!! We go to work and to school unless there is 24" or more. Of course, I live in the Rockies, near the ski resorts at Park City, Utah! So, we all have 4 wheel drives vehicles and chains for bad times. My house also has a back-up generator in case the power goes out. We just are used to it -- it's an unusual winter where we don't have at least 2 to 3 storms that dump 24 to 48 inches. Love it, though.

Up North 01-13-2011 06:25 PM

LOL I am jealous of all the Southerners getting snow I think Global warming is warming up the north and cooling down the south! We are supposed to get a whole 2 inches tonight> Whoopee not even enough to bother shoveling it! I miss all the snow!

Annz 01-13-2011 06:37 PM

I had a snow day too but didn't get to quilt. :-(

OneMoreQuilt 01-13-2011 06:42 PM

There's nothing better than that phone call in the morning telling you that you can stay home!!! I've been teaching for 32 years and snow days still make me as happy as they did when I was a child!!! We only have a few inches now but I can hope for a snow day next week can't I????

Pretty soon, I'll have to shovel, but enjoying some me time for now!

I used to be one of you snowed in New Englander's but traded it for the Valley of the Sun 22 yrs. ago. Not because I don't love my birth state I just could take the 3AM shoveling sessons just to get for work. I don't have snow days any more I can only hope for a few rainy ones. Happy Quilting from a former native... :-D :-D :-D

hperttula123 01-13-2011 07:02 PM

Stay warm and happy quilting!!!

jhoward 01-13-2011 07:11 PM

We are getting small amts of snow this week in Central Mn. I was in Phx last week.....why couldn't the temps have been in the 70's at that time????? : )

SewMamaw 01-13-2011 07:12 PM

Due to snow here I've missed three days work this week. Spent yesterday cleaning out a closet and have many bags for Goodwill, got rid of lots of UFP and today cleaned out a armoire in the LR. Hauled out 3 bags of trash from my cleaning days. Had a quilt in process but just had the cleaning bug and chose to follow that instead. Still have some storage closets to clean out, maybe this weekend can finish those up. It's like spring cleaning only in the middle of winter. I guess snow is good for something, huh!

Katz13203 01-13-2011 08:34 PM

Only got about an 1" of snow here in Maryland this time.

annieshane 01-13-2011 09:09 PM

Oh, I do feel for you. We were recently snow/iced in for 3 days. I had been sick for 3 days before then and still fighting. Couldn't really enjoy my sew days, but at least didn't have small ones running around. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

penski 01-13-2011 11:08 PM

awe that sounds so nice we had snow here but i had to get out and shovel it and withstand the cold wind to go to the store and take hubby to the office ( he has a broken foot and cant drive ) if not i would stay home and enjoy it also !!

dreamboat 01-14-2011 12:22 AM

No snow here. Just sunshine and 20 some degree tonight. It might warm up to 40 degree tomorrow. That is here in the Dallas, Tx. area.

katigirl 01-14-2011 12:25 AM

We live in snow country about 70 miles south of buffalo, ny just north of western pa border. We are all surrounded by ski country so usually have lots of cold and snow. Heard on the news that out of 50 states florida is the only one without snow. There is even snow on some mountain in Hawaii. Guess the snow fairy is really spreading it around this year. Stay warm and safe and enjoy the snow day.

Same here in South Louisiana. Mornings have been in the twenties, and today's warming may get up to high fifties.

silvam 01-14-2011 03:32 AM

Bridgeport, CT with the 3 storms since Christmas has equalled 28" - if we get another storm I really don't know where we will be shoveling the to

doowopddbop 01-14-2011 06:22 AM

We had a blizzard here a couple of weeks ago. Everything's great until the power goes out!! Didn't last long, though! Makes me realize how dependant on electricity I am!!

That is always an eye opener. We get our reality check for hurricanes.

Pretty soon, I'll have to get some sun cream on, but for now, I'm enjoying myself !!! LOL

That's so funny, gingerella. I'm also in the Ariz. sunshine over here across the hwy from the Colorado River south of Lake Havasu. This is more like what we came for & not that cold weather we've been having. Even had snow off in the hills. I wish I could box up some of this for you who are getting snow. We had the most beaut. red/gold sunset tonight.
