something else that might help -
a small bench or riser for your feet - maybe 2 to 4 inches high - might make a difference. |
i have a computer chair it works wonderful got mine at Office Depot

I use one of those old kitchen step-stools that the seat flips up and you have a couple steps to reach the cabinet over the fridge. Sitting at the very edge of it puts me at just the right height to sew with no back or neck aches at all. My kid used it at mealtime post-highchair and pre-grownup chair...thirty some-odd years ago. Guess I just prefer harder surfaced seats than most.

I use a computer chair also. Love it.

Do invest in a decent quality adjustable chair, preferable one with a forward tilt motion so that the back will come forward to support you when you lean forward to sew. Your leg should be flat from your hip to your knee. THen , if your feet don't reach the floor, use a foot prop of some sort (any kind of box or even books work just fine). It is also very important to make sure you have your arm/wrists supported properly when you are sewing and that the machine is the right height for your neck.
Can you tell that I used to sell office furniture for a living and we dealt with ergonomic issues every day??? Myself, I use an adjustable chair with adjustable arms that swivel around out of the way if necessary...love it..from Haworth. (Pricey, but I got it when I was a rep for them) |
Yep, get an office chair. Adjusts up and down, and so do the arms. I even haul mine to retreats. Worth every penny, no matter how much you spend!!!

:D I use a dining room chair, but I spend over a year looking for a for a table and chair set that didn't hurt my back if I sat in it for a long amount of time. I also keep my foot (or feet depending on the sewing machine I'm using that day) elevated on another dining chair.
If a computer chair is what you need by all means spring for it. |
I have a fold up metal chair that was given to us by a neighbor. I have a pillow on it so my tushy doesn't hurt. I keep saying I am going to nab the computer chair in Courtney's room but keep forgetting to do it. Actually, I don't want to open the door to her room. Lord only knows what will come out. Haven't been in her room since she left.

I use a computer chair and a pillow too.
