I like adjustability. I like an armless office chair with adjustable seat and back tilts that adjust independently. There is a paddle underneath the chair for each tilt. The most important thing when shopping for a chair is not to sit back in it like you are relaxing. Sit up to the desk like you sit at the sewing machine.

My husband rescued a really old oak office chair years ago. It was headed for the dump. I love it and cannot, for the life of me, imagine why anyone would throw it out. It's on rollers and is kind of a barrel shape. So comfy!

I received a new sewing chair, that I picked out LOL, for Christmas and I love it. It has all the features of a more expensive chair: mesh seat and back for comfort, chair height lift, adjustable arms, tilt, carpet rollers, neck rest, lumbar support etc. but is still on sale for $149. at Staples online. http://www.staples.com/<wbr>Staples-Hyken-Technical-Mesh-<wbr>Task-Chair-Black/product_<wbr>990119 Like previously mentioned, I would check them out personally as all body shapes are different. Bought mine from Overstock.com and loved it so much, I bought another one for my computer desk. The feature I loved the most (for sewing) was the arms that can easily flip up and down. You know how it is...sometimes you want to lean on 'em, sometimes you don't! This is what I have:

DonnaC that is cool! I do need a chair that lifts higher than 23" from the floor but is not a bar stool. We just put a table together using kitchen cabinets. The height of the countertop is 32" and my standard sewing chairs are too short for it.

Our Sam's Club had a great selection last week. That is where I got the one I use now and love it but DGD loves to spin in it and it slips down to low sometimes now. So looking to get a new one there soon.

I bought a chair at PIQF several years ago called "The Perfect Sewing Chair" by Ergonomic Advantage. I love it. I lucked out pricewise, because the rep was going back home after the show and didn't want to ship it. I know you can also customize it to get features you want.

The one I got cost a little more than I had planned and was not anything like I had in my head. But I cannot stress enough how important it is to try them out the seat depth where the back support is cannot be judged any other way. I can sit for hours on end with NO back pain since I invested in a good chair.
