Sewing with clear vinyl
 

Next month I will attend a bag class that includes clear vinyl. Any tips/techniques/methods? What needle is recommended? Thanks!

If you don’t have a special foot use tissue paper between foot and vinyl. It will tear away easily.

yes, the paper trick should work well. i think i used my foot with white plastic or teflon.

I just used my regular universal #11 needle--but be aware that Any needle will leave holes so no ripping!

use wonder clips or some other type clip to hold pieces together for sewing. Not recommended to pin as the holes are forever in vinyl. I use dollar store tissue wrapping paper for under and over the machine foot so it doesn't stick.
Enjoy the class, lots of bags can be made with vinyl and it is easy to work with.

I use my "Teflon" foot with my 6600 and it works beautifully.

I made a bunch of project bags with a vinyl window this summer and I used the tissue method to prevent the vinyl from sticking to the throat plate or the presser foot. I used a regular needle but lengthened my stitch. If your sewing line stitches are too close together you'll weaken the strength of your seam. It was a pain switching back to regular stitch length every time I changed from sewing the vinyl to sewing just fabric but that's what worked for me. The project bags turned out great.

Though I have been considering a teflon foot.

Question Please ... to those who are familiar with this foot.
My understanding is that the teflon lets any plastic/vinyl glide smoothly.
But ... what about the underside? as you won't have the teflon between the vinyl
and your machine bed.

So how does it work then?

Today online I found the Teflon foot for my machine on sale for $10 instead of $15. $8 shipping. Ugh

QuiltE, the vinyl just gets put through with the feed dogs like any other fabric. I will say that sometimes I have had skipped stitches even with using my Teflon foot. But sadly the little tricks people told me to do with the tape on the underside of the regular foot and putting tissue paper between the vinyl and the presser foot those didn’t work for me! Hopefully my explanation helped?
