sewing half square triangles without marking the squares
 

Does anyone remember the tutorial on this? It has been a while ago but you didn't need to mark line on all the blocks. i think you but tape on your machine. It was very fast.

Hi! I think I posted that. Seems like a year or more ago! I do use tape on my machine bed - red for the 1/4" and green right down the center for diagonals. Now I can't find it! I use the "stitch to both side of the center line" method and often do 2, 4 or 8 HSTs at once. It is easier with a marked line, especially when it comes to cutting them "apart".

But I do find that the taped lines are very helpful in general! Hope this helps.

Interesting. I saw a method of making 4 hst at a time by sewing completely around the square, then cutting on each diagonal (2 cuts). But I've lost it and can't remember how much larger the squares need to be to make the right size hst. Anyone know about that method? It was super fast and accurate.

Hi belfry That method is good but you end up with bias edges. Here is a "better" method for making 2, 4 or 8 :

yes, it is in the tutorials, I use it often and find it works perfectly. I printed out the tute and pinned it to my cork board in my sewing room. You MAY have to go to the archives to find it, but it IS worth the effort because she tells you the measurements and you do not have bias edges on the triangles.

Go to You Tube, Missouri Star shows the method for making 4 at one time.

I bought this handy little ruler and I love it. I have made HST every way possible and this is my favorite. So easy, no brain work needed.

scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and click on Archive in the center of the dark rectangular box there.
Then next select Tutorials from the archive menu.

However, to actually search, it seems the archives won't do that so on the opening page at the top right, type in key words for it to search for UNLESS you have the actual title of the posting to type in there. Otherwise, it'll give you several possibilities to look at until you find the one you're after.
