ok...what is wrong with me? I found a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 on craigslist and now it's all I can think about. It's a great price and only one year old. I can't even sleep at night because I think I need it. It would look very nice snuggled up next to my Babylock and across from my Bernina. And that's the problem! Why on earth do I think I need 3 sewing machines? I'm only 1 person who can sew on 1 machine at a time. Then my DH pointed out that I have my old Kenmore in the closet. I told him that one doesn't count because I learned how to sew on it and I just can't sell it. Do we all have this kind of problem or do I need serious help?

And did I mention the lady is willing to let me try the Pfaff out for a few days to see if I like it! Like it's even a possibility I wouldn't like it....

crashnquilt 02-23-2010 06:30 AM

You need this machine to balance out the room! Also, doesn't the Pfaff have a larger harp than the other two machines? You can use the new machine for quilting while you are embroidering on antoher machine.

pam1966 02-23-2010 06:33 AM

You need it! Good price, only a year old, yes you need it!

vicki75 02-23-2010 06:34 AM

You are my kind of people! LOL I really think I need it too!

Oklahoma Suzie 02-23-2010 06:37 AM

I have 3 machines too. I had 4 but gave one away. So, I say you need it.

Wine Woman 02-23-2010 06:46 AM

Wow only three (4?) you are doing good! Try six and selling two! (oops that is 8) No way in this world do I need all of those machines. I have three featherweights and each has something special about them, a Janome (Jem) that was used for classes before the featherweights, my Kenmore that is a real trooper, and my Bernina that is my main machine that will do everything! I inherited my mothers singer and an old singer that I must sell.

Yep you need it but after you try it out and put it in your room of course. Guarantee it won't leave!

Candace 02-23-2010 07:12 AM

Hmm. Sell your Kenmore or give it to a relative(with visitation privileges). Then you'll only have 2 and can get the Pfafff without guilt:>

shaverg 02-23-2010 07:14 AM

Go for it.

drivingsusan 02-23-2010 07:16 AM

That is truly a silly question   Of course you need it :D :D Can see no real reason not to buy it!! I would, I would, I would

vicki75 02-23-2010 07:22 AM

I'm beginning to think this is the wrong group of people to confirm my addiction! I think we might all have a problem. This is exactly why i love this forum!

And by the way...I'm meeting up with her at lunch to get the machine and try it out. BIG mistake...I know I'll never be able to let it go. She's pretty smart...she knows I'll love it!

drivingsusan 02-23-2010 07:39 AM

Good girl

I understand what you are feeling. Besides that Pfaff needs a good home. I think you need it.

sewcrafty 02-24-2010 04:16 AM

Have you ever watched those decorating shows on HG? Everything seems better in 3's!!!

Jingle 02-24-2010 05:32 AM

I have 5 machines and really only use 1, I have another exact same one that I use all the time for a back up. I am always looking for the perfect machine to make my quilting better, it may just be me that needs to improve.

maryb119 02-24-2010 05:34 AM

You can't go wrong with Pfaff. It is a great machine. Go for it!!

You should collect vintage machines.........I dont even want to know how many treadles I own right now much less the sewing heads themselves with out cabinets.

There are no rules as to how many are too many!! Buy it!!!

Oh i know where I am NOT coming my next time I am on the fence about a purchase...lol
p.s one question: can a girl really have to many machines? he he sorry i know that was no help...he he
Maybe its a good thing when i check craigslist and there aren't any machines.

vjengels 02-24-2010 01:20 PM

Oh Vicki, of course you need this machine! I know from personal experience that your sewing room will perform ever so much better with 3 machines! I have 3 set up all the time, 1 to piece, 1 to quilt, and the third to bind. You don't have to fiddle with the tension, or thread color, etc.... You just go get that machine!

Rachel 02-24-2010 01:23 PM

I had a similar problem... kinda... I have an old Bernina, bought it used, love it... One day I asked DH if he wanted to go to the Bernina dealership and just see what's out there... so we went... big mistake. I decided the QE 440 was the one I wanted, but was going to walk away without purchasing... Then, on the way out, I asked the lady working at the store, well, which machine do you have at home... (I'm pretty sure my hubby rolled his eyes at this point, knowing what was coming next). She said, Well, I have the biggest and baddest... which was the 730 at the time. Guess what I have at home now? Yep, the 730. LOVE IT!!! tee hee

Crafty1 02-24-2010 01:35 PM

Yes you should get the machine!!!! You can't have too many. Plus you can move around from one machine to the other :)

Karyn 02-25-2010 04:42 AM

We quilters collect machines, just like we collect fabric!! I have 4 sewing machines, treadle machine, embroidery machine and a serger. Would'nt part with any of them. They are set up assembly line style on a work table, I just give my office chair a little push and ride on over to the machine I want to use.LOL What could be easier or nicer?

Aurora 02-25-2010 04:44 AM

I plan to have several machines. Each with a different color thread so I don't have to stop to change thread in my machine. I just move to another machine. This way all my machines will get used on a regular basis and I always have a machine ready with the color of thread I need. Call me crazy, but I just love collecting machines, they go well with my fabric stash.

weatheread 02-25-2010 05:12 AM

Yes you need it I have 6 machines in my sewing room and I need them all If I found a good deal on another one I would get it . My husband has his hunting and 4 wheeler I have my sewing. Sewing machines have always facinated me they have changed so in the last few years my grandmother who taught me to sew would be amazed

reginalovesfabric 02-25-2010 05:24 AM

I have a serger, 2 featherweights, one quilt machine, an embroidery machine, the second machine I ever owned and 5 antique singers and one antique perision. No you don't have enough go for it girl. Two of these were given to me and I bought the antique ones on Ebay. Why I don't know

Karen's Kreations 02-25-2010 06:28 AM

I have 3 machines that I use on a regular basis, a Pfaff, Bernina and Babylock. Also have an older Singer - and a treadle machine. So........that being said - I use them all but love my Pfaff.

Candace 02-25-2010 06:58 AM

I've only got one sewing machine and one serger. Boy, I guess I need to keep up with you all! Honestly, if my sewing room wasn't a guest room too. I think I'd keep several set up too.

stitchinwitch 02-25-2010 07:19 AM

Boy oh boy! Am I the wrong person to ask! I THOUGHT I had 14, but now I count mine and I stop at 8!!I have an old Wards, Golden Touch n Sew, regular Touch and Sew, Janome 5000, Designer 1, an old treadle Singer in cabinet - it is beautiful, a few more Singers - black with scrolls that are packed away. I am addicted too!
Misery in Missouri!

polly13 02-25-2010 09:34 AM

I certainly can't argue with you. I have been looking at a Pfaff Creative 4.0 because as well as quilt I want to be able to do embroiderying with more ease than my Pfaff 7570. I am taking a few weeks to try to talk myself out of wanting the new one as I obviously can't say I NEED it. I can see this group won't do much to talk me out of it. My real dilemma is, will I purchase it and then find that it wasn't as big a joyful purchase as I thought it would be. I really love my 7570, but would love the easier embroidery and the wider bed. Decisions, decisions.

I love the idea of having each machine threaded with a different color. I have 3 FWs -- a 1964 white/green (my class machine), a 1936 black and a Centennial model. I have my original Singer 237 FashionMate, a 1939 Singer treadle and a 1929 Singer in a beautiful wooden domed case (this is the only one that doesn't work). And I have an offbrand my MIL gave me. I have a Bernina 440 QE, a 240 and a 165 sewing/embroidery machine. Then there are the White and Janome sergers. That totals 10 sewing machines and 2 sergers. And I still want a hand crank model, just because. It's an addiction, but you can't OD and it won't kill you!

MaryStoaks 02-25-2010 10:02 AM

Only 3 machines?

busiacam 02-25-2010 11:28 AM

I have 8 machines and would like to move to a larger house so I could buy more. Can only use one at a time, but everyone is special. Just as there is no such thing as too much chocolate, too much fabric or too much garlic, so it goes with sewing machine. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Katia 02-25-2010 11:57 AM

What a bunch of enablers we all are. And I am right there with you. I have more then I care to count. A gal needs back up, right. I would love to have several set up at once, but not enough room at the moment. I used to tell my husband every time I bought another that it was for one of my daughters. I don't anymore. I don't think he ever believed me anyway.

Maybe there needs to be a sewing machines anonymous or better idea, a contest to see who has the most sewing machines? That would be fun.

I actually passed up a nice Bernette this morning at a yard sale. It was only 250.00 which seemed very fair. However I am saving up for a Featherweight so I moved on. It about killed me, but I did it. Then I bought 50 bucks worth of fabric from the lady. Lucky me !

Katia 02-25-2010 11:58 AM

oops, sorry for the double post.

fabric9patcher 02-25-2010 01:33 PM

You are doing good I have 14 and you better buy the machine because if I see it I may snatch it from you. (lol)

kdbkelly 02-25-2010 02:05 PM

I agree with the others - you can never have too many machines! I have 2 older Kenmore machines I would never sell. I have an Elna serger, Janome MC4800 and Compulock serger, was given an older Singer in a cabinet. I also have 3 Singers I used to teach sewing classes. I bought an extra Janome serger for class -- then -- I bought a Janome 11000 mainly for my embroidery, Janome 1600P for my Hinterberg quilting frame and a Janome CoverPro1000. Looks like 13 for me! I also have an Elna machine that needs work, an antique treadle machine, a Singer in a cabinet in the shed and a Kenmore that I canabalized when I fixed another machine and an old Singer in a portable case - oops - that's 18. Whew!

Sewing Machine Owners Anonymous - where's the first meeting going to be? I need to sign up!

Now, if I can just find the time I need to sew and quilt!

I'm guessing that neither your Baby Lock or Bernina have the fabulous built in walking foot that Pfaff does. Grab it quick -you'll love it! :-D

Maire 02-25-2010 04:20 PM

You need that machine, as another sewing machine addicted person I speak from experience! LOL
I have about 20 machines of various ages, several from garage sales/thrift stores and several modern machines. Most of them get used, I am fortunate to have a large sewing room so have several machines set up & ready to go, my sewing friends come over for sew-athon's for charities.
The local sewing machine dealers know of my addiction, they even give out my ph. # when someone comes in wanting to donate a machine, they know I'll clean it up, make sure it sews well & pass it on to someone needing a machine.
Even my husband keeps a lookout for machines that we can rehab, he enjoys tinkering with them.
Oh the happy day when all our children grown, educated & 3 daughters married, that was when I finally had my own sewing room & realized it was legal to have more than one machine! LOL

dlf0122quilting 02-25-2010 04:28 PM

I just bought that same machine at the Road to California this year and Love, Love, Love it. I had a Babylock Ellageo Embroidery machine and an Elna 6005 but I had to have a Pfaff. I had been obsessing on it for a few months and when I was at the show, I could not resist the good price and the fact that I have always wanted a Pfaff with IDT. I have sold my Babylock and not looked back. The 4.0 has a 10" throat and that makes it so nice to have the extra room for free motion quilting. Good luck.

Deb G 02-25-2010 04:54 PM

You might not need it but you'll kick yourself if you don't buy it. And you'll make sure it goes to a good home. Yours!!!
