Can anyone make a recommendation of a place where I can get a good
extension table for my machine? How do they attach? It looks like
the machine has to be free arm. Don't they make one that would fit
without taking the regular extension off the machine?

I would appreciate any advise. Thanks.

Have you seen this:

It's great. Many of my guild members have one and it's the next thing on my want list.

Check with a machine dealer. They do make them for Singer featherweights that are not free arm. I believe they are also available through catalogues like Clotilde or Nancy's Notions. I purchased one for my Bernina and then broke it in half. Lucky for me my husband is a machinist. He used the broken one as a pattern and made me a new one out of plexy glass. He was even able to use the legs from the old one. It is not quite as heavy a material but it is more flexable and I have not managed to break it yet.
What I love about it is that it is see through. I have the added surface on top along with a great place to store things underneath that are visible.

The table another poster linked to is great also but rather expensive. It is also rather small. At one time Staples had a computer table with a cut out it in that worked the same way but was not on wheels. They may still be available. Two of my friends who have a custom drapery business use one of them for their Berninas.

This isn't what I had in mind. I have a table. I want to attach an
extension to my sewing machine on top of the table.

Most of the table extensions are designed to go around the free arm, not the sewing machine's extension table.

Here is a website that sells extensions:

Here is a website that describes an adjustable extension with storage:

I'm sure there are more types. I Googled sewing machine extension table to find these.

You don't mention what brand of machine you have... But what you want is a Sew Steady Table. They make them for all Makes and Models. You will need to give them this info. when you are ready to order. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought one of those like Bevangers but hate it. The quilt keeps catching on the front and corners when you try to quilt. So cannot keep my stitchs even.
Ended up buying a wood table with a lift in it and love it. Expensive but if you quilt your own quilts it is worth the cost.
The sewezi is the cheapest but not big enough.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep checking around. I would love to have a cabinet with a place to lower the machine, but I can't afford one right
now. I appreciated the notes about the quilt catching on the extension.
I hadn't considered that. A lot to think about.
