Sewing machine. Have you given yours a name?
I decided today my machine deserved a name.
I chose MAYA Anyone else? |
My big Bernina is obviously male. His name is Samuel. My Featherweight is Betsy. The others still don't have names.
PS, I like the name Maya!
Thank You!
My Bernina 880 is Big Mama
My Kenmore is, duh, Ken. My Janome is probably just Janome, but somehow that seems like a snazzy girls' name anyway, so it fits. I always want a mark over the e, as in Janomé, but that would probably change her pronunciation to Jan-o-may. (Or at least it does in my head.)
My Featherweight is Quiltie because I use it for all of my piecing. My Bernina does not have a name. I like the name Maya. Good name for your machine.
I haven't. I have never given an inanimate object a name, but that is just me.
My featherweight is Lila Louise.
My Featherweight is Caroline.
Depends on the day. Today, my Janome was You SOB because she decided to unthread herself innumerable times and was in a (female dog) of a mood. Most of the time tho, she's my Honey and my Oh You Sweet Thing-I did not know you could DO that). I also have a Singer that has never had a name because I cannot think of one foul enough (and that is all about her acquisition, not her behavior --cannot say more). And I have a Janome Jem that I just call Baby because that is what she is--such a sweet baby machine.
First machine I ever named was my Gammill. We were NOT friends when I first got it...and when we DID make friends, I had said 'righty tighty, lefty loosey' so much I named her Lucy. Lucy has moved to a new home and now Jane the Innova lives here. I also have a 301 named Harriette and a FW named Betsy. (I have a Bernina, 2 more FW and another 301 who remain nameless!)
My FW is Frances she is very special and Francisca was my mother's name., 158 Kenmore is Kathrine because she is older and more mature. New Kenmore is Katy, she is stylish and perky. 301 singer, is Susie has a great stitch and lives in a beautiful cabinet. and HQ16 is Harriet. They are all beautiful in their on special way.
My Berninas are all named "Bernie".
They seem to know which one I'm talking to.:D |
My longarm and frame are named Laverne & Shirley. Shirley is the longarm's name, after my mom, who taught me how to sew!
I have a Singer XL-3400 named Vesta (because I like the name), I have a Bernina 1530 named Martha after it's first owner, I have Singer 401A named Elsie after it's first owner, and I have a Juki serger name Bronwyn (because I like the name). Friends gave me the Bernina and Singer 401A that belonged to their mothers so I named the machines after them to remember them.
My 830 I call "THE DIVA" she lives up to her name lol
My 401 is Sadie. My husband's grandmother's name was Sadie and she got one just like mine for Christmas one year. Everyone called it Sadie's Singer. My other 2662 is named Fern after my DGM.
I have never named my machines...never thought about it. Now, I will not be satisfied until I come up with names! My late hubby, when I first met him, had a car named Henry. (It was a Ford)
No, but I approached both of my old machines with respect -- I have a 1978 158 Kenmore and a 1932 Singer 15-91, both are new finds for me although I have had the Singer for a long time -- love using them -- names would take a lot of thought!!
I have never named either one of my two Berninas
Hmmm I have a Viking 960Q, a Janome 760, a Kenmore zigzag, and 1907 Singer 66-1. None have names. The Kenmore has been with me the longest, 20 years. I just thought of a name for the Viking... Viki. Now isn't that original... lol Then there's Jan, Kenny, and Old Thing. That should do it for the names. This is a fun thread. :-)
I've never named a sewing machine. Now, if you're talking cars, ours have always had a name!
My Bernina's name is Phil. He does not like to multi-task but if you let him do one job at a time he does it beautifully!. My pickup's name is Tom T. Ruck.
Mine probably thinks her name is 'Okay,' because that's how I tend to begin most of my comments to her.
"Okay, just try to get through this one last seam, before I have to change your bobbin." "Okay, just STOP THAT!" "Okay, that looks pretty good!" "Okay, I give up!" She's definitely a 'she' because she's usually smooth and well-mannered. :) |
Mine is just, "Juki".
I named my treadle Elsie, and my DHM Schwartzy.
peace |
My Juki is Vivian (after my grandmother) and she has a little Brother.
just mu FW...Aunt Betty Lou.
she got me interested at 3yrs old. |
I have an Elan 500 and her name is Fanny.
I have 7 machines, but the only one that is named is my Singer 15-91. Her name is Sue, after the lady who originally owned her.
My well worn, second hand, cheapo Baby Lock bought on Ebay is "Sir Chugs A lot".
Mine got alot of not so nice names today because she wouldn't stop making crows nests of my seams. We're playing better now lol

I have three machines, first White that my husband gave me used on our first anniversary, which was in 1961, the second was a Singer, the third was a White that was my mother's and the fourth is Miss Shear Pleasure, none of which I could ever part with. Edie |
Yes, I have given my machine a name.....Amazing Grace!...as it is by God's grace that I am enjoying quilting as a hobby.
I have two FW's, a Bernina 930, a Singer Golden Touch, my mother's old dress head singer that was a treadle she converted to electric, when I was small. Then Sat. I purchased a make a make over treadle or something for $30.00. I have no idea what it actually should be called, The machine is a Singer and in a cabinet that lifts off of the treadle portion, both the machine and the treadle section have Singer stamped on them I know it isn't an antique, but a reproduction I guess. I have no idea if the machine works it looks new, but I can't try it out just yet, I broke my left foot in August and I'm still having problems with it. None f my machines have names, I just don't name things
My featherweight is called Quinty...because my husband gave her to me for my birthday the year of our 50 th wedding anniversary!
My featherweight is "Granny", my white featherweight is "Pearl" and my Pfaff Creative Sensations is "Smarty Pants". These are the ones I use, but I have others I haven't named, they are here "just in case" or a friend talks me out of one. They will only go to friends who love the old featherweights. I sold one to a Bee Buddy, and she named her machine "Juliet"......
My 830 Bernina is named Lucy. Her smaller (Bernina 220) sister is Lavender. I haven't named my serger as yet, but will.
I have only named my vintage machines. I don't know why but they seemed to deserve a name.
