I'd check out the local Bernina dealers, and also look online (eBay) to see some prices (you might need to sign in):
Current listings:

Completed listings:

Obviously, the different attachments included with each machine will affect the prices.

But it's a starting point.

Actually, I traded my 440 in on the 730, so got a totally fantastic deal! However, I did win a Janome Gem Silver and didn't need it, so DH made a deal with my Bernina dealer with out me knowing it and I now have the new 330 for use as a travel machine.

So keep in mind that gently used Berninas are great and the dealers will take other brands as trade.

I have the Bernina Artista 640 with the BSR and embroidery. It is a wonderful machine. The BSR works great. It still takes practice, but I could not do FMQ without it. I bought it two years ago when I retired and thought I was spending too much money, but I have not regretted it. - Cynthia

I so wish I knew about this board before I bought my machine!!

I have Husquarna Mega Quilter , it has a stitch regulator. It's just straight stitch. I have a 9in. throat. I got both the frame & machine on Craiglist for 1600.00.

Isn't that a mid or long arm? I have a Juki on a frame with a cruise control (stitch regulator added) but it only works when the Juki is on the frame, not if I would take it off to use as a table top machine. In fact, now that I think about it, the cruise control is mounted on the carriage of the frame.

I would go to different stores and try different machines - I love my Janome and my Pfaff - I would make sure that it is from a reliable licensed dealer if it is brand new and what kind of lessons come with it. I almost sold my Pfaff because it was supposed to come with class, but that meant everyone who had bought a machine - so there were all different levels of machines and learned little I have spent a lot of time with the book. The janome came with one on one lessons.
