I have some of antique-y big glass candy jars. I use them to hold spools of thread on my shelves.

Stacking boxes with a decorative theme works double duty. A place to store, but darling to look at. Your favorite ceramic figurines that is hard to find a place for. (perhaps a gift from someone who is passed on) Remember, this is a personal room and should have your favorite things displayed, right?

My room is so small that I don't have a lot of room for decorative things. I have some decorative plastic Amac Boxes from the Container Store in many sizes and colors (They are super cheap to buy) - I store tools and bobbins, needles and anything else that I don't want loose. I used a label maker so I could find what I need.

Make a dream catcher! I just made my first one for my brand new great-granddaughter...a cheap hoop, a pretty doily, lots of ribbon and lace...hung it in my sewing room and now don't want to part with it! LOL

I looked up the amac boxes..what are the round discs in the top and bottom? Doesn't say in the description, are they vents?

I found a hand painted dish at a thrift store that had been done by someone locally. My mom gave me some old wooden spools that were my grandma's. Most still have thread on them and Mom had written a paper to go with them that came with Grandma's Elna sewing machine in the 1950s. Very colorful to display.

I have my sewing room decorated in lots of vintage things. I even have an aqua baby highchair! One of my 3-drawer rolling storage cabinets has numerous sewing-related items on it, such as a darning egg, vintage needle books, a nylon stocking repair kit, a Pepsi bottle with one of those old sprinkler tops, and thimbles. I collect vintage baby planters and use some of them to hold marking pencils and leader and ender pieces. I have a collection of handkerchiefs on a bulletin board, and I keep old embroidered dresser scarves on my bookcase and a rolling cart. I have an old sugar shaker with baker's twine in it, threaded through the opening. I also have a large collection of vintage children's books. They are in baskets placed around the room. You might think I don't have room for my quilting stuff, and you would be right!

For my own sewing room I like making organizers out of quilt fabric that hang on walls (with pockets) or going on shelves. I also got some letters (maybe 6" or 8" tall) at a craft/hobby store and spell out a word, such as Create or Sew or Imagine. They fit above a door or window frame.

My dad had his mother's old iron that she had to heat on a stove - I don't know what happened to it. My sister probably has it - but my dad did find a child's version when he and my mom were antiquing once for me. It is in my sewing room. Since I am a Longeberger basket collector I have quite a few in my sewing room holding thread and fabric. I like function in my displayed items too.

I have one of those large pretzel jars from Costco that I throw my scraps into. It sits under a sewing machine to keep out of the way when I don't need it. There is so much that I learn on this Board, I am forever changing things about.
