Actually it is an addiction and by buying it now I will be all set later on when I am retired and on a fixed income. You see there is a method to my madness. LOL
|
Maybe we just have a secret desire to live in a quilt shop!!!!!
|
If I'm having a bad day my sewing room is like a big hug!

My reason is --- BECAUSE I CAN !!!
|
The real question should be' can you think of a bad reason'?
|
I will not purchase any more fabric. I will not purchase any more fabric. I will not purchase any more fabric. I will not purchase any more fabric.
My stash is taking over! I am now making "Covers for Kids" out of most of the fabric I have now. I don't even go shopping unless I need batting. this is the hardest promise I have ever made to myself. OUCH!! And I am retired on a fixed income too. |
Because people keep giving me fabric - I have to put up a sign "Home for Wayward Fabric"!!!
|
I just love fabric, and I'm trying to get more fabric then my husband had tools, he's winning right now but I will take it over soon.
|
Sure!! I hate voids!! It looks soo cool to be surrrounded by color! It makes me look prosperous. It makes me look busy and therefore I feel accomplished! It is easier to hide new fabric in a filled space than in a not so full space!! It is not good to hurt the other bolts of fabrics feelings by leaving them in the store!! I feel personally responsible for the state of the economy. If we dont take all that cotton into protective custody we will be responsible for nation full of obese boll weevils. We might have a glutted thread market!! Someone else might get more fabric than me. I may have to take up drinking if I dont spend my money on fabric!! The Lord would think I was ignoring all the bounty of fabric around me. Two or three hundred years from now my descendants might run out of fabric(YIKES!!) That is enough !! I am scaring myself!!!
|
Some people collect coins, others collect stamps. I collect fabric! Or so it seems.
|
I'm like sewgull. I'm at my best when I'm in my sewing room. I just learned to shop on ebay. Don't have to leave my home. It's fun. I also live far away from quilt shops. em

I almost always buy when there's a sale. I do a lot of my fabric shopping on line so I get lots of sales. Then when it's time to start my next quilt, I just shop my own fabric.
But the other reason, and the most truthful one, probably, is that I just LOVE playing with my stash! When I have time to close myself in my sewing room, but I'm not in the mood to sew, I pull out the bins of carefully folded treasures, and start going through them. Oh what wonderful images and dreams this game produces. It gives me a kick start to making a new quilt. |

I agree about fabric collections. Mine keeps growing. Here's just one wall of my sewing studio. I also have 4 other bookcases plus about a half dozen totes and 2 closets full. I've found some wonderful bargains at the thrift store. For example, I found a tropical fish fabric just slung over a hanger at Value Village, with the proper color for 50% off. Paid $8 for it and found out I had 11 yards when I got it home!! Woohoo! Do ya think I'm obsesses at all???
This was 3 months ago - you should see it now! |
If the good lord didn't want us collecting fabrics, then he would stop the designers and manufacturers from producing it. As long as they do, I'll keep buying.

DH always asks if i have enough yet.. i show him these pics and he always reminds me yall have been at it longer than me, and if i dont control it, ill have as much within a month lol |
A friend, who used to be an obsessive quilter, became an obsessive beader and gave me two six-drawer dressers full of fabric, plus about 3 boxes of quilting books and tools. That was 7 years ago, and it's been building ever since. Three years ago, I hit 35 stores in 4 days at our Western Washington Shop Hop, then traveled with my husband through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Northern California and I hit 27 more. There went two month's salary! I still have people just giving me fabric as well. Oh, the life of a fabricaholic!!!

I sewed for the public and for HGTV for many years and I will die with the most fabric!!!
|
Someone already said it - it is an addiction and with the hours I work now I will be saving it for retirement. I have been trying to buy less, but that is not working too well!
|
My sentiment exactly
|
I can't buy fabric, the only fabric I have is what the wonderful men and women on this board has sent me, so no I my sewing space dose not look like a store. God bless. Penny
|
I am just addicted to fabric & I love it! Makes you feel good to look at all the colors & patterns.
|
Another reason for accumulating:
I can't die til it's all used ... my bid to immortality or denial of the possibility of my demise. |
Me, too!! WLee

Sound plausible? I might use it on DH someday! |
When stacked in cabinets against an outside wall, my stash makes great insulation!!

Like so many things, if you like it and can afford to buy some of it, go ahead! Because when you want it it will all be gone. My stash is at the point now that when I start a new quilt I go there first and then buy what I need to finish. Of course, there is always something else on sale or that I simply love and can't resist!

Have you ever ask a painter how much paint he has or how many canvases? And a golfer. How many clubs and balls? A scrapbooking lover how much paper etc? Your husband, how many tools?
So why do people go bananas when they see our fabric? It goes with the territory. Took my DH to a fabric shop opening one time that was jammed with shoppers. He finally realized I'm not the only one. |
When I start a new project on a cold winter night, I want to know that I will have enough choices, especially if it is going to be scrappy.
|
Gosh Barb, I thought I had a lot, and maybe too much, but I can't begin to compete with all of yours, Where do you have room to sew, I wouldn't be able to remember what I might have if I wanted to start a new quilt with that much fab. You can open your own Quilt Shop, called precut Fab. I love it. thanks for showing just part of your stash, and I mean STASH!!

My niece was shownig me her home after a fire and remodeled It is beautiful and a few places were well stocked with scrapbooking supplies!(brm, living room, closet upsatairs, spare brm upstairs). So quilters are not the only ones with rooms of well stocked hobbies. I go in my sewing room to feel, touch the fabrics to just think what I want to do with it later. Its just a feel good moment! I do thank all of the sewers that have shared their rooms with us. |
