I have seen so many sewing rooms that look like Quilt Shops! Why do we feel the need for that much fabric? I can only think of a few "good" reasons.

1) Can't stop shopping for fabric
2)No time to use sew
3) sells quilts
$) I want to!

Can you think of any good reasons?

bkb 04-27-2010 05:17 AM

When you buy it on sale it saves you money!

Borntohandquilt 04-27-2010 05:17 AM

Fabrics make my soul sing....

bkb 04-27-2010 05:19 AM

or could it be left over from childhood.....MY Stash is bigger than your stash!

Maride 04-27-2010 05:19 AM

You never know what you are going to need later.

k3n 04-27-2010 05:20 AM

Mine is for a 'rainy day'! LOL

Mamagus 04-27-2010 05:24 AM

I live SO far from a quilt shop that when I get to one I HAVE to stock up... it saves money in the long run... spend $$$$$ when I am there so I don't have to spend $$ to go back when I need something!

Sound plausible? I might use it on DH someday!

cjomomma 04-27-2010 05:25 AM

I would love to have a fabric shop in my quilting space too. I like your list but mine right now goes like this.

1) Can only look
2) Time to sew just not motivated
3) Some day I will sell them cause I need to support my habit if I can get motivated to make them.
4) no $$$$$$
5) Just knowing I can't shop is giving me withdrawal symtons, I do believe this is worse than trying to quit smoking.:O
6) maybe I do need a 12 step program.

sewgull 04-27-2010 05:34 AM

Being in my sewing room I am secure, with all the pretty colors of fabric, thread, and my machine. Besides family leaves me alone, but than supper time rolls around and we do like to eat.
My sewing room reminds me of being with my mother and my aunt they both liked to sew.

sewjean 04-27-2010 05:44 AM

WOW! all good reasons. I will have to get started building a stash! I am green with envy when I see a room filled with fabric! I think I took after my Mom save save save. Now I can save in a new way. Thanks for the help on saving!
lol

Candace 04-27-2010 06:27 AM

Of course. For me I like to have fabric on hand so I don't need to run to the store every few days. Yes, some people have collected a lot of fabric, but I'm sure many of them actually USE it.

BellaBoo 04-27-2010 07:28 AM

My reasoning for buying so much fabric is that the cost of fabric will increase so buying it now will save me money.

great aunt jacqui 04-27-2010 07:48 AM

We can do anything we want ! We are the masters of our crafts. there is a lot of thinking before we quilt. There is a lot of planning to turn out a quilt. Our stash just opens the doors to our passion of quilting, It opens us up our imagination to glorious things. and we must continually add to the stash to enable ourselves to grow and prosper and be happy.
So buy buy buy and think of it as fuel for the soul. :!: ;) :)

joyceinoh 04-27-2010 07:51 AM

I love my stuff,
can't get enuf.

sewgray 04-27-2010 08:28 AM

Because if my dog is being persnickity I can go pet my fabric.

mamaw 04-27-2010 08:41 AM

If you like a fabric, you have to get it before it is gone. They change so much!! I already would like to find some of the older ones, and have only been quilting since 2005.

pennijanine 04-27-2010 09:21 AM

I buy fabric just because I want it and I can do it. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL Penni

bearisgray 04-27-2010 09:35 AM

Cuz I was nuts

1) When I need motivation I feel I'm in a quilt shop.
2) I need lots and lots of color in my life.

quiltluvr 04-27-2010 11:26 AM

Very simply, I am a moth and fabric is my flame.

thequilteddove 04-27-2010 11:54 AM

It feels better to rub your face on a yard of fabric then it does a $10 bill lolol

LOL that sums it up for me too!!! As well as "because I can" :D:D:D

paintedquilt 04-27-2010 12:35 PM

I used to buy material just because but now I "try" to buy by the project. Its not my fault that beautiful material still jumps out at me :!:  :!:

charvan 04-27-2010 01:36 PM

I buy because the fabric speaks to me; 'buy me, buy me'. It is nice to have the stuff on hand when the mood hits.

MadQuilter 04-27-2010 01:38 PM

Do I need a reason? I'm 52 - if I want a stash - I'll get a stash, Goshdarnit! lol

Sharon321 04-27-2010 03:13 PM

Of course I have to buy it, I don't own it yet.

I don't sell my quilts ! I give them away :-D

1.I have my stash because for me it is an enjoyment to be able to find great deals.
2.That is only when I shop. I am really frugal.
3. And because my DH says I can have a nice stash.

Gramof6 04-27-2010 11:40 PM

I love fabric.
A stash saves me getting out in bad weather to go shop.
Buying from online sales saves me tax $ & gas money.
Buying now also prepares me in case I can't buy often after retirement.
My taste in fabric changes from time to time so I have to keep up with what I like at that time.
I am 57 and I am finally able to have & add to my stash when I want.

joyceinoh 04-28-2010 07:04 PM

I love gr saleing and sometimes find really good buys on fabric (and yarn, another passion of mine) So I buy it when I find it. Keep what I like and give the rest to the Thrift Store.

Nancy S. 04-29-2010 03:56 AM

I thought it was "THE ONE THAT DIES WITH THE MOST FABRIC WINS" or was that toys? We are all having an ongoing contest and Some of us aren't even close. :)

stitchinwitch 04-29-2010 03:57 AM

I'm learning to be a hoarder! And it is FUN.

jolo 04-29-2010 04:52 AM

I bought fabric, and fabric, and material, and fa.......lol. No kidding tho, I am on a very lilmited budget since retirement.nurses did not have retirement benefits when I worked. SS only goes so far. My stash has meant the difference between quilting and not quilting. Jolo

kylenstevesmom 04-29-2010 04:55 AM

I hate running to the store all the time, so I've built up enough "stuff" that I don't have to think about what I need to sew, I just sit down and do it!

Theresa

steelecg 04-29-2010 04:57 AM

I look at it as my jewelry collection since I don't buy those things. Works for me

BethD 04-29-2010 05:11 AM

Because I never met a fabric I didn't like!

littlehud 04-29-2010 05:42 AM

I buy what calls to my and most of it will be my retirement fabric. I will have it when I have no money after I retire. :-D

brushandthimble 04-29-2010 05:50 AM

Sew I have on hand what was last year or before and now I have it LOL
You can not always find what you want in the store, so I have a selection (read stash), to pull from.
