The guest room is ready... Terri, Andrea, Izzy and anyone else who might want to come visit!

My husband has a six day "stretch" off work this week so he is eager to get me into my sewing room!! Gotta love a man who thinks like that!!

Stay tuned for more pictures!

Here is a "before" and "after" of the guest room!

The before!

Wow! So where will you sew now? I love how nice your guest room came out. Give your DH a big hug for all his hard work!

Bevanger 10-12-2008 05:42 AM

Your hubby is definitly a keeper,,,, :D Great room..

pocoellie 10-12-2008 06:22 AM

Nice guest room - hurry up and post the sewing room!!!

sewnsewer2 10-12-2008 06:56 AM

Nice quest room! What a sweet hubby, can I borrow him??

Quilting Aggi 10-12-2008 06:59 AM

looks great Lori!!! Okay I'm packing my bags, and my sewing machine and gear. I'll be on the road in a half hour.. I'll be there in oooh say what 3 hours from here??? :)

Love the quilt on the door!

Are you planning any more trips here to St. John's before the winter weather gets here?

Mamagus 10-12-2008 07:13 AM

I love the new guest room but as you saw... it was TOO SMALL for a sewing room!
My children both have their own houses in St. John's... where Aggi lives... so Erin didn't need a huge bedroom to sleep in when she visits... SO I took the bigger bedroom for my sewing room! Ryan's room is stuffed with all the stuff from the sewing room, so that I can now re-configure Erin's room into my sewing room.

Clear as mud, right?

Andrea, you're welcome anytime! But give me a few more days to get the sewing room ready, since you want to bring your machine! There's no flooring or painting planned for this room, so it should be a fairly easy transition.

We have some "flying" visits planned to St. J's. We have winterize our trailer in Bay Bulls and of course there's always Christmas shopping!

And yes hubby is a keeper, and no ya can't borrow him! There's still more work for him to do for me! LOL

Renee 10-12-2008 07:36 AM

Wow! What a great transformation. I can't wait to see what he can do with your sewing room!
Renee

Lori be sure to call me when you come in this way again!!! just pm me for my cell number. It would be nice to meet up even if for only a coffee. Coffee Matters down by the Fairmont Hotel is a beautiful little coffee shop to chat!

so if your trailer is winterized, will you be over this way during the winter???

sandpat 10-12-2008 03:53 PM

Love your new guest room and the quilt on the bed and the fact that your DH "gets" it.

gcathie 10-12-2008 03:57 PM

love the progress....My DH is a keeper too! :-)

Skeat 10-12-2008 05:47 PM

I love it when everyone shares the reality of all of our sewing rooms!! Why is it we end up w/everything there??:))I have vowed after my last cleaning in the S.R. that nothing enters unless it has to do w/quilting. No more flying Barbies, school papers, paid bills to be filed, etc!! And, I am sticking to it!:))Sure makes room for the fabric that way:))
*Love your quilt on that bed!! All of it looks sharp! Very inviting guest room! And, that closet...well, you have not only a man capable over there but, obv. one that finishes what he started..so, you might toss him in that closet and lock the door for his own safety!:))Can't wait to see your new room! Skeat

Cissy quilts.. just wanted to say love the Avatar!!! I just saw Ironman tonight!!! awesome movie!

tlrnhi 10-12-2008 09:13 PM

Oh my! I was scared when I saw the first picture. Thought....hmmm....I'm NOT THAT LITTLE!! Where would I sleep? lol
Then, saw the rest. NICE! I love it! Look! I have a window, a nice little dresser for my clothes, a tv so I can watch a little of whatever nonsense is on. AND BEST OF ALL!! A VERY NICE QUILT!! What more could a person ask for?
Your hubby has done a GREAT job!

Mamagus 10-13-2008 04:10 AM

Now Terri, remember that he helped with the flooring, new wood trims and moving the furniture. The other three weeks of work was all mine! LOL

I am packing up the remnants of Erin's bedroom today and we start putting the sewing room together when he finishes work at 2!!! I am SO excited.

Does anyone have an idea what the ideal work surface height would be?
I am finding my current 32" to the top of the machine bed too high, so this time around I'll have an option! I am 5' 6" if that matters!

Skeat 10-13-2008 04:49 AM

Are you talking about tops to cut from??Or sewing? Either way your ergonomics would tell you to have a slight bend at your elboy while hands are on the countertops...same w/sewing. Does your kitchen countertops fit you?Are you comfortable at their height? If so, measure them.

Here's a good example of sewing machine position at: http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/sewi...iondesign.html

also, here's some info w/measurments at: http://www.lemontreetales.com/lemon_...hen-i-sew.html at the bottom of her page is more info on sewing room ideas, etc

reneebobby 10-13-2008 04:59 AM

Wow what a difference, the room looks huge now. Good for you I have a little room also must have been a nursery way back when, you really can't get to much in the rooms. I can't wait to see the sewing room.

Quilt4u 10-13-2008 05:15 AM

Love your guest room. Can't wait to see what your sewing room will look like.

Mamagus 10-13-2008 06:44 AM

I am lucky... this house has four bedrooms in the upstairs part of the house. That part mirrors itself front to back. One small bedroom and one bigger bedroom across the hall from two identical sized rooms. So I'll still have two extra bedrooms even after I steal Erin's room from her!! Of course Hubby and I get the other big bedroom!

Skeat, Thanks for that info on the ergonomics. I have the perfect cutting table. Stealing my island from the kitchen (new one to be built in during the winter) makes perfect sense to me!! I use it all the time and I love the height.

Sewing table is more of an issue and since I am installing a 6' length of laminate countertop, I do have the option of making it the eprfect height for me. I have an adjustable chair and I am thinking, feed dogs at 28" will work for me. Hope I'm right!

I was meaning he did a great job on the flooring and such. I KNEW you were the one to do the cleaning of the room!
The sewing room is coming along great! Wish I had a room that big!

Nov 2, I start cleaning my sewing room. Since the craft fair will be over, I can start moving things around. Will be getting rid of the book shelf and bringing in a small piece of furniture, along with a wooden box and a sort of jewelry looking standing piece that I bought at the auction. Got them all for great prices! Just wish there was room for my iron bench I bought, but that will go in the 2d floor room. Hubby says it would look nice on the 3d floor balcony, but it's not going to go outside. Too afraid it will rust with the salt air. I'll make a cushion for it and some matching pillows and it will look great. Once that is all done, I get to go to work on Courtney's room. Still have the door shut on that. Scared to go in there.......lol

Mamagus 10-13-2008 01:13 PM

OH I know what you mean about your daughter's room. My daughter when to a school all the way out in British Columbia I couldn't open her door for weeks!!!

Her brother had gone to the same school and when he left home Erin started referring to his room as "The Shrine of Saint Ryan".

Will she be home for Christmas? I think I might have both my kids home this year WITH their significant others!! That's the first time in four years!!

It is wonderful to have a hubby who supports you. Mine would do anything for me. He made me a quilt rack, movie shelves, and several other thing with great love. Now I have a question about your guest room. Where did all the stuff go...?

Do you remember those little plastic puzzles from your childhood? The ones where the pieces were in a tray and the pieces could only move if you moved all the other pieces around?

That's my house these days. Four bedrooms. Empty #1 into #3 so furniture from #2 can move into #1. Take all the residual stuff from #2 and push it into #1. Take stuff from #3 and move it into #2. Take residual stuff from #1 and take it to the dump!!!! And I know you want to know what we're using #4 for? Sleeping from pure exhaustion from all these freaking moves!!!!

I'll take a picture of room #3 tomorrow before the things start to move into the new sewing room!

Here's our day's work. We would have done more but we had to vote! And DH had to get some of his part-time business work done today. BUT! I am pleased with my room so far!

The work bench for scrapbooking! And where I'll store my fabric bins

This is my much lower sewing table. But I like the height and Paul says it can be raised ( but he can't add on to the desk that we sawed down

Now my pretty guest room has stuff piled in the doorway. Ryan's room is getting emptied but the sewing room is getting cluttered. I think tomorrow I start with the garbage bags.

The major part of my problem is I don't just sew. I scrapbook and paint (both acrylics and water). And all of those hobbies have so much STUFF!!

But tomorrow is another day and my dear sweet husband is going to give me another full day of help!! By tomorrow night I should be organized!
