Shoes or Not???

I'm a quilter who usually kicks my shoe off so that I can really feel the foot pedal. Postman came today and said "what happened to your foot?" I had one shoe on and one off. I had to explain that's how I sew.

So how many others out there sew without the shoe?

landers1 04-18-2012 01:54 PM

Count me in

mom-6 04-18-2012 01:56 PM

I can't feel the right part of the toe pedal to push very well with my shoes on, so I'm another barefoot seamstress.

barny 04-18-2012 01:57 PM

I take my shoe off also. Actually I have my shoes off all the time in the house. Feels better.

0tis 04-18-2012 02:01 PM

I sew barefoot always.

virtualbernie 04-18-2012 02:13 PM

For 20 years I always sewed barefoot--couldn't sew any other way but lately it doesn't seem to matter. Still feels better without but at least now I can sew with shoes on if I have to.

Here it's either/or.

Always sew with bare feet or socks on I can't seem to feel the pedal correctly with a shoe on.

Lisa Marie 04-18-2012 02:30 PM

I am part of the barefoot club... even when I am taking a class at my LQS.

QuiltnNan 04-18-2012 02:31 PM

i'm always shoeless. i can't feel the pedal with a shoe on

ckcowl 04-18-2012 02:31 PM

since our shoes come off at the door when we enter the house i've never sewn in shoes- we do not wear shoes inside- sometimes if my feet are cold i may have slippers on. but i've been sewing without shoes for 45+ years- we were never allowed to wear shoes in the house.

I've told this story before so forgive me if I'm boring anyone. A few years back, it was quite cold so I had on shoes. And I tried to sew. Just could not get the feel of the machine for diddly. Finally realized I had a shoe on my sewing foot. I've been seen tromping around with only a left shoe, more than once.

happyquiltmom 04-18-2012 02:38 PM

I alway sew shoeless, even at the LQS where I work. Gotta be "one" with the machine! Slip-ons are a must at work, so that I can slip them back on quickly when a customer walks through the door!

Chasing Hawk 04-18-2012 02:44 PM

I am barefoot most of the time.

Only time I wear shoes is if we go to town or go outside.

joysewer 04-18-2012 02:46 PM

I am usually shoeless.....sometimes I wear socks.

MacThayer 04-18-2012 02:56 PM

The foot that's on the pedal has the shoe off! How can you feel the small incremental movements of the pedal any other way?

Pickles 04-18-2012 02:57 PM

I'm a either way kinda person, but prefer no shoes.

not here slippers

Sally J 04-18-2012 03:21 PM

I'm shoeless also

tsnana2000 04-18-2012 03:27 PM

I sew without shoes on too.

Dolphyngyrl 04-18-2012 03:37 PM

without, but I usually take both off, which was why he was probably looking at you weird, not because you had it off but because you just had one on. Everyone has their little quirks, makes us all different.

Tweety2911 04-18-2012 03:52 PM

Barefoot :)

hairquilt 04-18-2012 04:07 PM

Me too cause my feet get really hot & i have to slip off my shoes-I even take them off at work!!

nativetexan 04-18-2012 04:11 PM

me too. i do the pedal better with a bare foot!

barri1 04-18-2012 04:15 PM

I thought you were supposed to sew without shoes on.. Now you tell me there is another way?

joyce888 04-18-2012 04:16 PM

Guilty! Sometimes I get up and press seams or do something on the PC and not bother putting the other shoe on.

hooked 04-18-2012 04:24 PM

I also prefer to sew barefoot but I also loose the shoes the minute I walk in the house.

MaryLane 04-18-2012 04:30 PM

I have always sewn barefoot. My mother did, too. Now that my ironing board is in another room and I have issues with my feet I sometimes put back on my Crocs to go iron but I never sew with them on.

quiltsRfun 04-18-2012 04:36 PM

I hobble around the house with one sho off and one shoe on, too. Like you, it just seems I have better control when I can feel the foot peddle.

MaryStoaks 04-18-2012 04:43 PM

Barefoot here. I sew on my featherweight and need my big toe free for the button on the pedal:thumbup:.

maryb119 04-18-2012 04:47 PM

I'm barefoot or just socks to sew, too. I think I have better control over the foot control that way. I don't wear shoes in teh house anyway. Much more comfortable.

cheaha39 04-18-2012 04:52 PM

In my socks and I always turn the foot pedal around, I find it easier to avoid cramps if I apply pressure with my heel rather than my toes.

YC Quilter 04-18-2012 04:54 PM

Barefoot in warm weather, socks in cold weather!

ShabbyTabby 04-18-2012 05:17 PM

Phew, glad to know I'm not the only one that runs around the house barefoot. We live in Las Vegas and don't have but about 2 months of cold weather so I'm barefoot almost all the time. We have tile floors and they are so nice and cool in the hot, hot summer. I really do own shoes...lol.

Phannie1 04-18-2012 05:20 PM

If I am in the house, I am barefoot. I wish I could be barefoot at work.

heljoy50 04-18-2012 05:20 PM

I wear Ugg Boots in Winter, I suffer from the cold and wear them in the house and while sewing, but in Summer I am always barefoot, I can feel the pedal better, especially on the old Singer machines.

stampinteresa 04-18-2012 05:27 PM

I always sew without shoes. Sometimes socks or ballerina house slippers but never shoes even at classes. Teresa

ChaiQuilter 04-18-2012 05:31 PM

I sew with a soft sole slipper on. I'm covered if I have to get up and use the rotary.

kelsunshine 04-18-2012 05:32 PM

I'm another one that kicks the shoes off the minute I get in the door. I absolutely HATE shoes! I sew barefoot when its warm and socks in the winter.

Sandra in Minnesota 04-18-2012 05:35 PM

No shoe but need a stocking.
