Shopping on line....

Has anyone purchased from Connecting Threads before? I am wondering about the kits and the quality of fabric? I've purchased from JoAnn's using the coupons, and purchased from the local quilt shop....quality is different. Just wondering how the online sites compare to the stores.

cathyvv 02-16-2014 07:14 PM

I love Connecting Threads fabrics and have had no problems with them at all. Go for it!

tesspug 02-16-2014 07:15 PM

I buy from them all the time. Just placed a $100, for batiks to make my DD's wedding quilt. I like their fabric, IMHO it has a very nice feel. I use their thread as well. Some people think it is linty, but I haven't noticed it's any worse than others I've used.

GrammieJan 02-16-2014 07:18 PM

I have bought numerous fabrics from Connecting Threads too. Always have been pleased with their quality.

SandyinZ4 02-16-2014 07:20 PM

I love CT products. Their kits are always generous and you never have to skimp on cutting out the pieces. I love their variety and they have awesome sales. Shipping is always free if you order over $50 and that is usually not hard. I use their thread all the time, too. I am very pleased with them.

JanineH 02-16-2014 08:11 PM

I have ordered from several times. The fabric has a nice feel, the kit had plenty of fabric and I also got charm packs which measure 5 inches. They always have free shipping on a $50.00 order. I will be ordering from them again.

Great customer service and good quality fabric.

hopetoquilt 02-17-2014 03:48 AM

I would say that the quality of fabric is nice but not as high quality as the "higher end" more expensive fabrics are. Maybe a step above Joanne's quality or about the same. Sometimes though, the quality at a LQS is lower and the Kona fabrics at Joanne's are higher quality than some of their other fabrics.

They are generous with the quantities of fabrics in quilts.

I agree. Their prices and sales are great, but I find the quality of the fabric is not as fine as what my LQS offers. It seems to have a courser weave and ravels more easily. That said, I'm finishing a project now with fabric I ordered from CT and I'm pleased with how it's going, so I will have to try more of their fabric.
PS, I washed and starched all the fabric before cutting it, just to be sure

TexasSunshine 02-17-2014 05:23 AM

I have ordered many times from CT and have been pleased. I buy large cones of thread for my LA and also use it to piece and sew.

Tink's Mom 02-17-2014 05:33 AM

I have been very happy with the fabrics and threads from Connecting Threads. I had a problem with one fabric and contacted them and they happily replaced it and told me to keep the other fabric.

marcycn 02-17-2014 05:40 AM

Never used CT but for the record I've found Fabric.com to be a great place to buy material - I've bought a lot from them - and they ship free over $35.00.

Cat18 02-17-2014 06:26 AM

I don't order very much on-line. I love to feel the fabrics before I buy and I guess I am too picky when I choose colors!

Rose Marie 02-17-2014 06:53 AM

Where I live there are no shops near me so I online shop a lot. Connecting Threads and Keepsake Quilting are the ones I buy from. CT is the cheapest and have no quality problems with them.

The only thing available to me is Walmart and 2 very high price QS with little variety. I hear we are getting a JoAnn's later this year though. :-) Oh, oh.....

pokeygirl 02-17-2014 07:51 AM

I have never bought from CT. I buy all my Moda fabric from Etsy.com. I love them and have never had a problem with the fabric or the thread. I use Aurifil thread.

ragquilter 02-17-2014 07:56 AM

CT is the only online store I have bought from. Their fabric has a nice feel and the kits are generous. I use their thread all the time. They ship quickly, I have never had a problem.

xenodeno 02-17-2014 08:29 AM

I have been buying mostly vintage fabric on eBay. I find the older fabric I've been buying is higher quality than even my local quilt shop's material and I'm getting it a lot cheaper, usually from $3-$6 a yard( and that's including shipping) -heh, and is that a run-on sentence , or what?!

charsuewilson 02-17-2014 05:38 PM

I've bought yardage and thread from CT. The prices were good, the fabric quality was decent or better for batiks. Shipping was fast.

crafty-kid 02-17-2014 07:28 PM

Thanks for all the comments...very helpful. I just love this site for Q and A! You are the best group of crafters!

ThreadHead 02-17-2014 08:15 PM

I buy from Connecting Threads all the time. At first I bought about 3 or 4 sets of samplers, 10 inch squares, just so I could see the real colors and feel the material. So far I've never been disappointed. I'll probably make a big star quilt with the squares.
I also buy from Marshall Dry Goods, they are the cheapest in price. I also buy from Carolina Cotton, Prices about the same as Connecting Threads.
I set up a checking account just for ordering materials, ebay, etc. I don't keep any money it that account unless I'm ordering something. Much easier and faster than Pay Pal.

wannaquilt1 02-17-2014 09:26 PM

I love connecting threads fabric. It's true it does seem to unravel easier than LQS fabric but it's nice and thick and not see through like some Walmart fabric I've had. I have also gotten great deals from fabric.com I will check out Marshall Dry Goods and Carolina Cotton. I have never heard of those but I'm excited now :)

wannaquilt1 02-17-2014 09:46 PM

Holy Cow! I just checked out Marshall Dry Goods! Their prices are amazing! Is there a catch? Do you have high shipping costs with them? it seems too good to be true!

DOTTYMO 02-17-2014 10:54 PM

I find them very helpful service and kits and fabrics always been great.

celwood 02-18-2014 04:05 AM

I have not purchased any fabric but I love their cotton threads

lclang 02-18-2014 04:49 AM

I bought a kit from CT. The fabrics were grand but the instructions were awful. I made another one afterwards and used my own common sense for the construction and it turned out fine. Measurements were okay, just poor instructions. I would try it again for something special. Their customer service can't be beat.

MaryKatherine 02-18-2014 04:50 AM

I buy almost all my fabric and batting from Connecting Threads.

angelarose 02-18-2014 05:29 AM

I've ordered from Connecting Threads, Keepsake Quilting, and Hancock's. Haven't had any problem.

angelarose 02-18-2014 05:35 AM

P.S. I've heard a lot about Connecting Threads thread is linty. I think it is, also, but I still buy it when it's on sale! Haven't tried the higher priced thread companies...afraid I'm going to like them better then get motivated to buy it spending more $ than I should.

nanacarolyn 02-18-2014 05:49 AM

Just put in a order to ct for backing on sale order from them all the time with no problem

DebbieG 02-18-2014 06:01 AM

I order a ton from CT, especially their sales...the kits on sale can not be beat...baby quilt fabric and pattern for $21, with material left over towards making another one...I have made a lot of their kits and have loved every one of them. I like the feel of their fabric, and yes it's probably not as good of quality as my LQS, but then I can't afford to buy all my fabric at my LQS. It's either find some deals or quit quilting!

Normabeth 02-18-2014 07:33 AM

I buy from them all the time, just placed a $200 order with them yesterday

Snooze2978 02-18-2014 07:35 AM

I love Connecting Threads. In fact just got their March catalog and saw they were offering variegated thread so went online to order them. Got looking at their clearance stuff and ended up with 79 yds of fabric instead. Didn't see the catalog stated March for the threads so I'll have to go back next month. Oh how awful!!!!!! Anyway, even at normal prices Connecting Threads is great so when I can get them on sale I feel very fortunate. Only problem with that is you best get as much as you think you'll need as it won't be there the next time. I found that out with their Mirage medium grey. Only picked up 2 yds last time and needed more on this quilt I'm working on. Its been discontinued as with most of the clearance fabrics and threads. Anyway, love their fabrics and have never had a problem with them. I don't care for pre-cuts from anyone as I find some are not cut straight and as I starch all my fabrics before I cut or use, they seem to shrink or I have to cut them straight so I lose out. Rather buy yardage so I have extra anyway.

Snooze2978 02-18-2014 07:39 AM

Angelarose, yes Connecting Threads threads are linty but if you go for their polyester threads, they are not. I have all of their threads and rarely ever have a problem. Waiting for their variegated threads next month as I still have some from years past and want to add to them. That's how much I like their threads. I also love Aurifil but the price is a bit much for me unless I can find them on sale. I like having a selection of colors to choose from when I go to quilt.

Snooze2978 02-18-2014 07:41 AM

Tink's Mom, yes their customer service is great. I ordered 192 spools of their thread a while back when it was on sale. They goofed with a couple of the colors so I called them and they sent the correct ones and told me to keep the goof ups. Worked for me. No questioned asked by them either. Never had a problem they couldn't fix.

ManiacQuilter2 02-18-2014 07:46 AM

The reason why JAF fabric is different from LQS is that the most fabric sold at JAF are called seconds. The print might be slightly off or numerous other things that are scanned before the fabric is sold to your LQS. I was surprised at the difference of the quality of Kona cotton from JAF when I recently bought some from Hancock of Paducah during there last 20% off sale. I won't be buying Kona cotton from JAF anymore. There was an easily seen difference between the quality and color in the fabrics.

salederer 02-18-2014 07:58 AM

I order from connecting threads all the time. Love the quality of their fabric. I just ordered some of their clearance fabric for the backing of a queen size quilt and it cost me all of $21 or six yards of quality fabric! ( I bought extra for binding and my stash). I also use their thread. A little linty, but it quilts beautifully! Getting ready to order some of their new line of bright colored fabric and know I won't be disappointed. Go for it!

IrishgalfromNJ 02-18-2014 08:00 AM

Another vote here for Connecting Threads fabric and cotton thread. I've used their fabric for three of the 10 quilts I have made and I'm starting another quilt next week with all CT fabric.

KathyKat 02-18-2014 08:03 AM

I've bought 2 kits on sale and completed them. The fabric was beautiful and felt high quality. The amount of fabric is ample and there is enough even if you make a couple of mistakes. With both kits I had a nice amount of beautiful scraps left over. Iv'e bought lots of their fabrics over the years and have always been satisfied. Also have had great service from them.

Carol34446 02-18-2014 08:17 AM

Marshall Dry goods- They also have good customer service. Sent me the wrong pannel and when I called, sent me the right one and I kept the other one too. As I cannot afford our local quilt shop, they have great material and prices when on limited budget.
