Should I sash these blocks

I enjoy making these blocks. Just wondering if I should use a sashing?

gramajo 12-08-2015 08:47 PM

I wouldn't. I like the way it looks and think you'd lose the uniqueness of the pattern.

marilynr 12-08-2015 08:54 PM

I really like it just the way it is.

Tartan 12-08-2015 08:59 PM

The Disappearing 9 Patch kind of makes its own sashing and I like how it looks. You can add sashing if you need it bigger or a nice wide red border to finish it off.

QM 12-09-2015 02:15 AM

Usually I would say sash it, but this pattern would be less connected with sashing. If it needs to be bigger, use multiple borders, IMHO.

NJ Quilter 12-09-2015 03:22 AM

I agree with all the others - like it very much as it is.

quilterpurpledog 12-09-2015 03:52 AM

No sashing needed. You would have a completely different "look" if you sashed the blocks-not the DP9 look. The fabrics you chose look great together in this pattern.

QUILTNMO 12-09-2015 04:49 AM

i think it looks good just as is good job!!!

luvstoquilt 12-09-2015 05:24 AM

I wouldn't. It looks great like that!

ManiacQuilter2 12-09-2015 05:34 AM

I wouldn't sash it. I looks great just as is. D9P are so fun to make.

BeckySt 12-09-2015 05:38 AM

I agree with others. It is perfect the way it is

skypony 12-09-2015 05:43 AM

No, I would just put the binding on and it will be just fine. That is a really cool quilt. Some vetern of the military will love it.
That is if you were to give it away. Otherwise, it would be great for 4th of July.

loisf 12-09-2015 05:59 AM

What a great quilt! I think sashing would detract from the bold pattern. I would add a border if you want it larger, otherwise, it is stunning as is.

Homespun 12-09-2015 06:15 AM

Looks great as is.

AUQuilter 12-09-2015 06:39 AM

Like it the way it is! Looks great.

Kitsie 12-09-2015 09:35 AM

No! I like it just the way it is.

cathyvv 12-09-2015 09:56 AM

Pretty quilt. Do you mean around the individual blocks or around the quilt? Individual blocks, no. Entire quilt, yes, if you want to make it bigger.

needles3thread 12-09-2015 09:58 AM

No, they look great the way they are.

Jingle 12-09-2015 10:03 AM

In my opinion sashing would ruin the looks of it. I would put at least one border around it.

ruby2shoes 12-09-2015 11:20 AM

Looks great just as it is; no sashing.

quilterlois 12-09-2015 03:14 PM

I like it as is.

margied 12-09-2015 03:30 PM

I think it looks great the way it is.

cassiemae 12-09-2015 03:38 PM

NO it is beautiful....

Mariposa 12-09-2015 04:31 PM

No sashing needed...IMHO. Looks great as is. Perhaps add borders if you'd like it bigger....

maryb119 12-09-2015 05:15 PM

I like it as it is if that helps.

GailG 12-10-2015 02:46 AM

That is my favorite placement for the D9P, but I've also used the placement where all blocks are arranged so that they sliced squares form the sashing and cornerstones.

earthwalker 12-10-2015 03:05 AM

I think sashing would spoil it. I think it's beautiful the way you have it.

nwm50 12-10-2015 03:21 AM

No sashing...you would lose points of interest. I think borders are the way to go to finish off or to make it bigger. I really like this pattern/fabric you used.

jmoore 12-10-2015 03:56 AM

I think it's unanimous... : ) It looks wonderful just as it is and a nice border or two would really set it off beautifully.
Please post when you have it finished.

quilttiger 12-10-2015 04:01 AM

Your quilt is gorgeous just the way it is. I made a Quilt of Valor top similar to yours without sashing, too.

Texas_Sue 12-10-2015 04:18 AM

I think it would break up the chain if you sashed.

Karamarie 12-10-2015 04:46 AM

Am in agreement - no sashing. Very nice quilt.

trolleystation 12-10-2015 05:13 AM

I vote for no sashing.

Jordan 12-10-2015 05:17 AM

I agree with everyone else-no sashing needed. Love your fabric and pattern. You did a great job and I think sashing would make it lose it's appearance that makes it a D9P

WMUTeach 12-10-2015 05:28 AM

I like it as is but if you need it to be bigger a double sashing would be attractive also. Perhaps a dark blue and then red. Try it out and take a look or snap with your cell phone. See what pleases your eye.

maviskw 12-10-2015 06:28 AM

I agree with no sashing, but you could lay out a large piece of fabric that might be used for sashing and lay the pieces on it. A design wall, the floor or a camera would help to see this in perspective.

But I have another idea if you want it bigger. Double disappear it. Lay four of your pieces as the corners of another nine-patch, keeping the centers toward the center. Add a new center the size of those blocks, either the same as your old centers or a different coordinating color. Now add new patches to the four sides (probably a neutral) and sew that 9-patch together. Now when you disappear the 9-patch you have a whole new pattern and a much larger quilt.

youngduncan 12-10-2015 06:52 AM

I would definitely leave off the sashing. Your fabrics are wonderful just as they are. If you need the quilt larger, add a border or two; otherwise, enjoy the terrific quilt you have created.

Friday1961 12-10-2015 07:14 AM

I wouldn't either. They go together beautifully just as you have them, plus they create a secondary pattern that is Wow! Wonderful blocks! This is going to be a lovely quilt!

MargeD 12-10-2015 09:37 AM

I don't think so, as it looks good the way it is.

QuiltnNan 12-10-2015 10:31 AM

i like it the way it is
