I taught myself to paper piece and love it. It's like putting a puzzle together for me. What puzzles me is how to quilt it since it has so many seams going in all directions. Has anyone mastered this.

I find that to me, PP is kind of relaxing. Whack up some chunks of fabric, grab a easy pattern, and off I go. Carol Doaks books, CD's and classes are the best for learning without going insane.:) Actually, most of my scrappy log cabins are done with PP.

I've made one small paper pieced project and had a blast doing it. I couldn't believe how much fun I had. Maybe some pp projects are easier than others.

Tried it. Did not enjoy it. It is just not quilting to me.
I enjoy cuting and piecing fabric not paper.
Some designs are imposible except when pp, but I wont do those patterns.

hehehehe that is funny. I am not insane yet, I stress yet!!!! and most of what I do is paperpieced. I love it. I still use my seam ripper. lol

It took me a little while to understand that when paper piecing, I'm sewing the opposite way I usually sew. You put the fabric on the back of the printed paper pattern,turn it over and sew on the lines of the pattern. When I paper piece, I usually mess up a couple of times, then I remember how to do it, and off I go! The really nice thing about paper piecing is the perfect points that can be acheived no other way! You will get it! Just keep going and at some point a little light will go off in you brain, and it becomes easy. You don't have to worry about keeping a consistant 1/4 inch seam, you are sewing on a line on the pattern. In some ways, it's actually easier than normal seaming,you just follow the line. One thing I do when paper piecing is to make sure the piece of fabric will fit the space allotted to it. I have screwed up a few times, not having a large enough piece of fabric to cover that space, but, as with anything else, practice makes perfect. It sounds like this is upsetting you, so, go do something else, go for a walk,etc. Just get your mind off paper piecing for a while, when you come back, I think it will be easier. I know when I try to force things, it usually goes badly. Walk away for a while, when you come back it might seem much easier.

I've taken 2 classes, still can't get it "right".........I haven't given up.....someday I will learn......

I already had a few screws loose , before starting PP.... that could be why I didn't notice that I stripped the threads on the remaining screws when I learned to paper piece.

Made some small Christmas gifts for the ladies at work in 1995 or 96. Only had to make 5. I've never hated sewing anything in all my life as much as I hated those 5 five paper pieced bags. What a waste of time, fabric, and sanity. The only thing I'll use paper for now is as a base for string quilts...and they're large blocks! To each of you who love paper piecing...my deepest respect and admiration.

I am currently making a pp Kimono quilt. I have sucessfully made four and 1/3 blocks. I am so proud of that and will post pictures in the future. I find that I really need to concentrate. I wanted to use some scraps up but the bigger the piece of fabric the better the block goes for me. I guess I just get frustrated when I sew the wrong piece of fabric on the wrong number. The unsewing bums me out.
