I am curious, where do you show off pictures of your work...all artists have some kind of journal to show their work...I have been using Flcikr...but apparently have recently been locked out due to flickr/yahoo losing my password, and the one I have won't work...so Now I have to set it up all over...or try a different site...

BJ looking for your input!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 03-08-2011 12:38 PM

Nowhere other than here.

I am old fashioned. I print pics of everything for my photo album. And keep them forever :)

Yes, I do this also!

darlin121 03-08-2011 01:25 PM

I keep mine in a Quilting Journal. Along with the pictures I write down imformation, mostly how I was feeling at the time, what inspired me and who it was made for.

LoriEl 03-08-2011 01:26 PM

I try to keep a quilt journal also, but now find that since I've gotten a digital camera, I don't keep it up as I should. I have a lot of my projects on my facebook page.

Me too!! I do take my actual quilts to guild, friendship quilting group, and sometimes here to work to "show off". :-) And I do have a n otebook with pictures of all my quilts, but right now it is way behind! All my pictures are on my laptop.

featherweight 03-08-2011 01:30 PM

I don' show mine off.. I keep a picture in my computer for my own use but I don't feel the need to show them off other than to my friends here.. I also take them to my different quilt groups that I belong to.

thequiltmama 03-08-2011 01:38 PM

I should add....although I do print pics of all of my stuff for my album. The only people I show are on here though. People in my life don't understand the true beauty so the album is for me when I want to look back at my projects.
:) :) :)

barnbum 03-08-2011 01:42 PM

Just here and on my website, but horses are the main topic there....quilts are tucked on the last pages.

I show them here, and on Facebook. I do keep a Flickr acct. too, but don't always remember to upload photos there.

YOu know what, I do not consider sharing our photos on here of quilts showing off. We tend to think of it as sharing. I love seeing the different levels of quilters on here and their color choices. I get good ideas and sill do something in a color I never would have considered until seeing it on here. Yes, I post pictures. I used to only in my PDA but I have made so many new friends by posting on the picture site and others who like the quilts pm each other and get the patterns. Another reason we SHARE, is because there may be a pattern out there we knew nothing about and would like to try. I respect the ones who only keep their pictures in journals and such, I do too. What nice Memories of our quilts. Showing off...I don't think of it like that. I have put some that are a little wonky but that's all part of the fun. I hope this thread won't keep others from posting pictures because they think it is showing off. Not on this board. We love it. JMHO. :)

thequiltmama 03-08-2011 02:24 PM

I love other peoples pics too. I get the best ideas from looking at other peoples quilts. :)

There are two ways to think of showing off. I think this was meant in the nicest way. To let others get ideas and be inspired. I know I have saved many pictures and patterns from the Picture topic. I have a journal of my things as well. I don't show them any other place. I don't even take them to Guild for show and tell. Just me!!!

kriscraft99 03-08-2011 02:30 PM

I don't consider it showing off, I refer to it as sharing

I love to see pictures of others projects in all of the different stages. It is better than browsing through a quilters magazine.

jaciqltznok 03-08-2011 02:34 PM

I share my pix here, on FB, and on Flickr and on at my yahoogroups.

I think you contact Flickr/yahoo and they will help you get back into your account.
Do you have the acct. you pay for? I know I do, and they keep your info on file for you.

You can also find your passwords "locked" in your computer memories...I would have to ask my son just where it is, but I printed mine out so I could have a back up in case CRS happened one day.
I also keep an address book with all of that info coded into it...I apprently spend wayyyyyy tooo much time on the computer and need all this info stored elsewhere.

I also keep thumbdrives of my pix and they are all on an External hard drive for back up.

I know a famous quilter who just lost 12 years of her photos, book layouts, etc due to NO back up of her files!

as for "showing off"...Lord, there is nothing more inspirational than seeing what somebody else did with their split 9 patches, or OBW....without the pix for references, who would remember the names of all the patterns we use?

No, pix of our hard work are for sharing, inspiring and bragging! God did not give us these talents to keep them to ourselves..we have to share them!

I personally find all the pics shared here a learning tool for my brain injuries.
I don't think I would have started quilting if hadn't seen all different things.
I am very glad to those who share their work :)

I love to see others quilting projects...I think its a great idea..and don't consider it showing off..

PaperPrincess 03-08-2011 03:43 PM

I love looking at other folks' work. I just started quilting about a year ago and before I found this site, I had 2 additional quilts that I wanted to make. Just couldn't imagine anything else that I would ever want to do. Now, well, my list is so long that I don't think I'll ever get to the end. It's not showing off, it's inspiring others! (ok, I'll admit I do send links to the pictures I post here to my family. If you can't show off to your sister...) :D

featherweight 03-08-2011 05:02 PM

Well excuse me for using the wrong term!!

OOPS~~~
I have to be honest and admit that
I WAS SHOWING OFF !!
I have every right to...
Have you any idea what I have accomplished thru 2 brain injuries.
I realized... and I am sooooo Proud of me ... I needed to show off;
so please forgive me if I went overboard...

[quote=featherweight]Well excuse me for using the wrong term

Oh featherweight, I was not responding to your post in particular, just the words "Showing off". So sorry if it came across this way. It was meant to be an excited, not showing off, but sharing thing. There are some who won't post because they think this way and I wanted to make sure more would post or continue to. HUGS
 I used to only post in my PDA and now, since we are encourage to post in PIctures, I started doing so.

Lilrain 03-08-2011 10:54 PM

I like looking at others work, but never take pictures of my own to show off, don't even take them to our Show and Share at our Guild. And I do make very nice quilts, but it is just me.

Cuddly Quilter 03-09-2011 03:03 AM

I have mine all in my facebook folder and of course on my home computer under Quilts i Made.

Please take your projects to guild. It's part of who you are. Yes it's showing off a little but it's soooo muuuch fuuuun! Every project can be an inspiration to others.

Same for me - though I do put some of them on my facebook page to share with friends far away.

emptyshellamy 03-09-2011 03:20 AM

I always loved show & tell when I was a kid. I show here and on my blog, occasionally a special quilt on facebook. Sometimes the urge to show is the only reason I finish a dreaded project. I'm not a member of any local groups but once in a while I take some finished quilts to the firehouse to show my friends, lol :D

I display my quilts on my Etsy site, Flickr and blog. I also share them on facebook. I love feedback to see what other peoples' taste are for colors and designs. I love looking at everyones' quilts!

Hi Debbie. I too like the words "share" compared to showing off. I would not post the pictures that I have if I didn't want to SHARE!! Have a great day and share some more photos. HUGS< Beth

Scrap Happy 03-09-2011 05:16 AM

I just started a quilting journal in word. I haven't printed it out yet but folks here are reminding me that I should - thank you! Also for anyone doing this in a word doc remember to back it up, especially if you aren't going to print it out. I include pics, dates of started project with details (like I finished first block today and pic), who the quilt is for and all kinds of details. It may not be of much interest to others but I think it's pretty cool and wish I had started waaaay sooner.

thequiltmama 03-09-2011 05:24 AM

I love that idea....I may just have to start doing that. thanks :)

I save mine in a journal, plus the pictures I take of them on my digital camera I feed into my laptop so that I also have a file folder on them amongst other family pictures. Nice to have two records of all quilts.

I use Shutterfly, it's free and you can set up your own website.

scrappylouisa 03-09-2011 06:34 AM

I share my photos of my quilts and other craft projects with my family and friends on Facebook! I'm a scrapbooker and have a album for my quilt layouts. I also have a small brag book that I carry with me that has photos of my quilts and other craft projects to show family and friends.

Me too.

Chrys 03-09-2011 06:38 AM

some here, some on facebook...but mostly on my blog.

Butterflyblue 03-09-2011 06:40 AM

Same thing happened with my flickr acount! Grrr. And sewing pics was basically all I used it for.

I used to have a blog where I posted all my projects, but now it is just here and showing people in real life. I need to have somewhere on the internet to show my work, because my DH has only limited appreciation for quilts. I do take lots of stuff to show his mom, she quilts too.
