Signature wedding quilt
 

Hello friends!

I'm attempting to make a signature quilt with 3-inch blocks I made in wedding colors, red and green, and had guests sign them at reception. They were paper pieced and I left paper in for signing. I drew the blue lines on blocks to keep signatures out of seams. I am sort of designing as I go. There are 100 signed blocks so I'm putting 20 in a row. Then attaching appliqué strips that are 6-inches wide. There will be borders. Lots of borders. I need this quilt to be big enough for their bed. That was the request. A wall hanging would have been easier! Any suggestions out there?

It looks like you're doing a wonderful job so far. I don't know how long your strips are but I would think those strips with a border of flowers would work look nice. I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

I usually don't like to make a large quilt because the signatures will most likely fade with numerous washing. That is why a wall quilt for me is preferred. You are doing an excellent job with your design as you go.

Maybe add some solid boarders separating the rows. I like what you have so far

This is beautifully done. I do think repeated washing will be a problem, and with only 5 rows of 20 signatures, I wonder if the bride and groom would be happy with a bed runner made up of the signatures and applique? Then you could make a bed size quilt using the same colors, but a simple pattern so that the bed runner is the star of the show, but it doesn't get as much wear?

Great idea. I'll suggest it! And thanks to everyone for suggestions. I warned them about fading. We'll see what they decide.

You have a great start. I would think about picking a block or a combination of blocks....any block, Log cabin, D9P, etc and make enough to do a large size center. Or, do you have a favorite throw pattern that has a nice center? Then all your signatures and the beautiful applique border could be the finishing touch. It will be beautiful, however you go with it.

I'm doing a signature quilt for my daughter's wedding, and am still working on it. I knew the signatures would fade, so I embroidered over them with a double thread. They came out very nice, and now I don't have to worry about the fading.
