I would rather have a wall hanging with the signatures. Eventually the ink does fade with washings. I agree, speak directly with your granddaughter to see what she prefers.

This is a special gift to your granddaughter. Ask for her opinion. I like Tartan's idea. You can make a reversible quilt in this way. It would make the quilt easier to use and enjoy for the future. She might enjoy seeing all of the good wish blocks now when she is 16 but maybe would enjoy them on the back of a quilt in her home in the future.

If the squares seem too big, maybe you could chop them down to just the right size, wonky-style, and then fill them back out to full-size squares with scraps. Kind of a crazy-quilt version, so it doesn't matter that they came out different sizes and shapes.

I love crazy quilts and scrappy quilts so for ME that would be awesome; your GD's taste may be completely different. Definitely see if you can get some clues from her!

This thread reminds me of "Say Yes to the Dress" where the Bride's mother has the final say-so on the Bride's wedding dress! Who is making the quilt, and who is receiving it? Just ignore the girl's mother and talk to the 16 year-old.
