greetings all,
i was cleaning up my sewing room today and i was wearing slippers. then i started sewing, finishing up the projects, and something felt wrong. turns out i was sewing with my slippers on and normally i just wear socks when sewing. i like how my toes can feel the pedal - for some reason i think i have more control (but i'm sure i don't) so my silly poll is............... what do you wear on your feet when sewing? and why do you prefer it? |
I have to wear shoes when sewing; otherwise, I'm sure I'd step on a pin or needle, or stub my toe while maneuvering around my crowded and messy room......
I wear shoes or slippers. I am flat-footed, and I have to something on my feet just about all the time or I have terrible pain. :(
socks or bare foot....i too feel i have better control of the pedal....probably just in my head...or is it my foot?
In the winter I definitely wear slippers. My feet are always so cold!!
In the warmer weather, usually just my bare feet. |
Always bare footed, I have to feel the petal.

I prefer barefoot or socks so I can feel the pedal sometimes shoes but for the most part barefoot!
barefooted or socks, otherwise I don't think I could control the pedal as well.
shoes or slippers...to much stuff on the floor :D i love to go out barefoot on wet grass
 |
barefoot in summer, socks in winter (and I hate wet grass in my toes)
Bad feet, have to wear orthotics, so I always wear shoes! Wish I could do otherwise! :?
bare feet or socks, like to feel the petal for more control

Shoes
I've put on a few pounds having 4 babies (ugh - let's just not discuss weight) and my legs feel better if I wear good sneakers all day on "work" days. "Lazy days" (haha did I mention 4 kids???), I can wear sandals. But I've stepped on more than a FEW Legos in my time, bad enough that I've bruised my foot and found it quite difficult to walk for a week. So... shoes became necessary. I don't like stepping on toys. I can walk comfortably, my legs don't tire out so much, and I feel ready to attack the day and whatever it brings. |
Just like Barbm...barefoot in summer, socks in winter
I like bare foot unless the cement floor gets to my flat feet, then I wear Berks for the support. I did just buy Crocks since they had them at Ollies for 10.00$ I think the cusshy foam will be good on my feet. I hope.
I like barefoot, just feels like more control. I have a pair of houseshoes that are very flexible and soft. If the AC gets to cold I use them. But most of the time I am without shoes or socks.

I wear slippers in the house, but when I'm at my sewing machine, I take them off. Like to curl my toes over the top of the pedal. LOL But I do put them back on if I leave my chair. I'm afraid I'll drop my rotary cutter plus that slight chance of a pin I missed.
Bare feet.
Whenever I take a class, I'm always surprised how different it feels to have shoes on while sewing. |
Barefoot. Even at quilt guild we at all (well mostly all) take our shoes off, but leave the socks on! lol
I wear shoes. I rarely go barefoot unless I'm at a beach.
I slip off my right shoe to use the foot pedal. I can feel the pedal better with my bare foot and it seems I have more control.
I don't wear shoes at home any time, Barefooter!
I'm almost always in thongs or some sort of sandal. But, I love the idea of bare toes on the pedal! I'm going to live dangerously (carpet- scared of stepping on a pin!) and give it a try. I'm going to be ripping out the carpet soon and put in hardwood floors. Maybe I'll be going au naturel then also!
Barefoot always, even in winter. Naked feet are happy feet. Of course, I go to let the dog out barefoot in the snow during winter so I guess I'm a little odd.
Barefeet or socks
Barefoot. I have been known to walk outside with no shoes on the way to work. However, if I work in the yard, tennies, because we have little critters around here.
I have no idea; I never paid attn. LOL
I am mostly in my socks around the house so I guess socks :) |
I wear my shoes when I am sewing but when I go to to press the pedal on my sewing machine I take my shoe off. It is a habit, I cannot sew with my shoe on. Silly eh??
barefoot always. Shoes are not allowed in our house. We take them off just inside the door. It's a germ thing. Think about it! I don't wear house shoes or slippers or socks. I just can't get any traction like that! I rarely wear real shoes unless we have snow...we're a flip flop family, so my 4-year-old says. :D
I don't think I could sew with shoes on. Here is something a little related...I was wearing my brown leather Reef flip flops the past few times I'd gone out....and I wore my Skechers flip flops the other day. They have a lot thicker of a sole on them, and I kept giving the car WAY to much gas! hehe. |
I wear socks to quilt. I like to be able to "feel" the foot pedal. I just don't do as well with my shoes on.
Bare footed. I usually wear slippers at home, take my shoes off right when I walk in, but I will take the slippers off to sew.
Not usually socks either because I don't want my foot to slide on the pedal. Then I find myself walking out of the room for something with one slipper on. |
Joining the "barefoot conga line". But I live barefoot when I am at home.
I was born barefoot, and it still feels right
I have to wear socks also, I think I can feel the pedal better.
I am a bare footer, I can't do anything unless I'm barefoot. When I used to sing in a choir I had to take my shoes off and be barefoot or I couldn't sing. LOL :)

Another barefooter at home  , need the pedal control and love the freedom, but I do wear heavy socks when I use the machines at my LQS because everyone else is wearing their shoes.
I also "should" be wearing my arch supports  (but I love to let the "dogs breath" as my nana always said), however I have discovered FitFlops I have them in six colors, LOOOOVVVVEEE THEEEEEMMMMMM :D for when I am out and about. |
I am always in socks, so it's socks for me.
Barefoot - my shoes live just inside the door, they come off my feet as soon as I step in, and the last thing I put on when I'm leaving. Even in my regular quilt class, I slip my shoe off when I sew - otherwise I feel like I don't have control of the foot pedal.
