Ouch, I had that problem with the last top I did. I tore it apart so many time I thought I would scream.
I finally walked away for a few days.
I'm sorry your having difficulties. Somedays are just like that. I think we have all been through it.

Probably so.

I feel your pain. :XD:

Quilterfay 06-27-2011 08:48 AM

I know how frustrated you are. I did a Jacob's ladder which should not be a hard quilt pattern to make. But I am sure I took that whole queen size quilt apart more then once. I like to chain piece so I would get started and sew a whole bunch together and then realize I had sewn them on the wrong side. So frustrating.

I think the thing to do is pin them all together than sew them. I hardly ever pin anything and that is why I got them all sewed together wrong. All it takes is to pick up the pieces and turn them when you put them in the machine and they are all wrong.

Have a rest maybe it will go better later.

donnalynett 06-27-2011 09:01 AM

I'd keep working it the same way....scrappy quilt.

mizunogirl 06-27-2011 09:06 AM

Hope your day gets better. Mine started out similarly, with me realizing that I had made my "frame" for my framed 9 patch first too small....then too big....now its "just right."

Rumbols 06-27-2011 09:38 AM

Ouch!! Hope your day goes better. Sometimes when I have to pull an all nighter(work 36 hours straight)and I get so wound up I need something to unwind before falling asleep. I have been know to sew 4 patches and ended up doing the same thing or worse. Now I just sew some strips until I get tried and leave it at that. Good luck with all your future days.

Pam H 06-27-2011 10:36 AM

I learned early on not to do any quilting in the middle of the night. I can read or watch tv or play computer games but no sewing!

Homemother 06-27-2011 12:00 PM

LOL!!! I sewed a bunch of blocks together incorrectly yesterday and I wasn't even tired!!! Me and Mr. Seam Ripper took them apart, and apart, and apart. Then resewed them together wrong again. Grrrr. Mr. Ripper stayed with me the whole time until I got it right!

mollybluebonnet 06-27-2011 12:11 PM

Yes, this happens to me too - too frequently! Sometimes I think I'm just losing it and that quilting is too frustrating to pursue, but then I always try again the next day.

vickig626 06-27-2011 12:41 PM

When I read your title, I immediately thought she's must have been tired because that's what usually happens to me.

I probably would have given up sooner. Hate when I have days like that too. If I have to rip something 3 times within about 15 minutes, I quit and ....maybe..... try again later.

You're definitely NOT alone.

Ladies, LOL, I couldn't control myself. I'm laughing with you not at you, while thinking of the very problem I had myself.
Some days it is wise for me to NOT sew!
Better luck tomorrow if you rest today.

Nanjun 06-27-2011 02:49 PM

Sounds like me. I seem to rip every seam that I sew.

Yep, tis is the proven remedy-diva club notes day 234, ifyou want the reference....grinning like crazy while I type this..... ;-)

Grandma Peg 06-27-2011 07:05 PM

Hopefully tomorrow is better.

lclang 06-27-2011 08:10 PM

Laid a whole quilt out on the bedroom floor, picked it up wrong and pieced the whole thing before I discovered it. Ended up putting a wide applique border down one side and it's my favorite quilt. Everyone thinks it is so fabulous and I don't tell them what I did!

tyoung 06-27-2011 08:13 PM

Bummer... I think we all have days like this.

QuiltnLady1 06-27-2011 08:22 PM

I am not a fast piecer because I put everything up on the design wall (it is behind my chair) and only take off one item at a time -- and I still will sometimes turn the blocks around.

The worst thing I ever had happen was when I was quilting a quilt using my home sewing machine. I was doing really well, it looked great an I was a happy camper. I had minkee on the back -- when I turned it over, the Minkee had picked up a piece of fabric that I thought was well out of reach of the quilt. It too was well quilted in. I have discovered that reverse quilting is worse than reverse piecing (LOL).

mollybluebonnet 06-28-2011 04:44 AM

I have an framed embroidery that says, " Mr Seam Ripper is my best friend"

tntgranny 06-28-2011 10:54 AM

Sometimes it is just better to turnoff the machine, crawl back in bed and pull the covers over your head. Things will be better when you get up again.

Kuusistoquilter 06-28-2011 10:58 AM

There are times when it just doesn't pay to sew. I know when I keep making mistakes, I have to quilt sewing and do something else.

Olivia's Grammy 06-28-2011 01:11 PM

Hate days like that. I've taken out what I thought was the wrong seam before, sewed it up and took it out again. When actually I could have just turned the block around.

jad1044 06-28-2011 02:49 PM

Some days it just does not pay to get up - if it goes wrong once, it may repeat itself again! Just walk away from it and think "tomorrow is another day"................ and it usually works..........

Campbell34 06-28-2011 08:46 PM

After two days of sweating blood over a new bag that I resized to make it larger, I finished it tonight , how wonderfull until I picked it up, sewed a handle on backwards , I must leave it that way as it has too much finish work to redoo it , besides no one will know it except me , what a day and it is only 110 here today

connie d 06-28-2011 08:56 PM

Tomorrow is another day and it will be better. So sorry I know how you feel, I've had days like that.

connie d 06-28-2011 08:57 PM

You mean it was a 110 degrees there today???

sorry you had so much trouble. The only thing I sew when I'm tired is crumb blocks, really hard to mess those up.

Not unusual for Arizona this time of year, I used to live in Yuma,AZ and the normal summer temps were 116-120. Now I live in Texas where it only gets to 105.

callie 06-29-2011 01:44 PM

Hate it when I do that. Hope tomorrow is better
P.S. my saturday was like that...

lclang 06-29-2011 07:17 PM

Was doing machine embroidery on a crazy quilt block today and all of a sudden the bobbin thread was pulling to the top and made a big mess. After changing needle, rethreading, taking machine apart to clean out little bits of thread it is running again but that block will need to be done again. Another three or four hours of embroidery! Oh well, all in a days work. Things such as this happen to us all.

deedum 06-29-2011 07:28 PM

I have learned, if it don't want to go right, it just won't go right and call it a day! Yep! Some days sewing goes smoothly and some days not!

Cosy 06-29-2011 07:29 PM

1st time I did a pinwheel, I laid out the block on the table where my sewing machine is, I would pick up two pieces, turn to the sewing machine, then look 2 or 3 times, and STILL had to pick out a good quarter of the seams because I kept sewing the wrong edges together. Next time, I will use the idea here of pinning that nasty seam where it lies!

You're a lady after my own heart - l LOVE those crumb blocks - or in my case trash quilt. No matter how hard you try, you can't make a mistake on them.
