Ps 150 11-16-2010 06:05 AM

Since I've become a quilter, so many things have changed in our house. :D I thought it might be nice to know that I'm not the only one (my DH seems to think I am sometimes ) so I decided to create this thread to see what has changed at your house....like.....

Since I've become a quilter, I keep more vinegar in my laundry room than my kitchen.

or

Since I've become a quilter, I now refer to my sewing/scrapbooking room as my quilting room and can't remember the last time I did those other two hobbies.

or

Since I've become a quilter, all the painter's tape that our house contains is stored in the quilting room and if you need to "borrow" any, please put it on the shopping list.

Lynnejean 11-16-2010 06:10 AM

Since i became a quilter I think paying more than $4 a yard for fabric is fine. You would have never seen me pay 8 or 10 dollars a yard before quilting.

Since I became a quilter I think its okay to have more than one project going at the same time. I was always a finish one project before staring another before.

Since I became a quilter I think everyone needs a quilt no matter what their age is because how could anyone live without one.

since I became a quilter having tons of fabric in the closet is a neccessity not hoarding.

Izaquilter 11-16-2010 06:19 AM

Since I've become a quilter...I will pay more for a yard of fabric than I would a nice top or piece of clothing! I will go 25 miles out of my way to go to a quilt shop... I will work in my sewing room from 8-2 then hurry & make the bed & throw something on the stove & do dishes to make it look like I've done something for the day! I will also solve some of my 'quilting problems' at 2 a.m. when all is quiet & I can think uninterrupted! And since I've become a quilter I have met some of the greatest people I could have ever dreamed of meeting! Quilters are the bestest!

erstan947 11-16-2010 06:22 AM

What more can I say than has already been said!:)

joan_quilts 11-16-2010 06:23 AM

Since I became a quilter, my sanity is a lot better! I don't spend time worrying, I spend time hand quilting! Since I became a quilter, I am more relaxed. Since I became a quilter, I discovered a talent I never knew I had.

BMP 11-16-2010 06:23 AM

Since I have become a quilter I no longer have the perfectly cleaned and organized house !!

ktbb 11-16-2010 06:23 AM

since I've become a quilter, I enjoy letting my creative side out and creating unique quilted products for myself and others. Sewing was utilitarian, quilting is creative.

sewTinker 11-16-2010 06:24 AM

Since I became a quilter, we eat a lot of soup and frozen dinners;
Since I became a quilter, I love Too Hot, Rainy, and Freezing Cold gotta-stay-inside weather.
Since I became a quilter, my husband's golf game has improved.

sandpat 11-16-2010 06:24 AM

Since I've become a quilter......

There are places in my house where dust bunnies hold conventions.

The restaurants close to me that have "carry out" available have become my new best friends.

DH has learned to make "U" turns to go back to yard/garage sales if he spies a stack of fabric or quilt...all without being asked.

A trip to town (45 mi. away) is not complete without a stop at the LQS.

We never leave the house unless either DH or I have threads hanging off 1 or more parts of our bodies.

DH has learned that a happy wifey makes for a happy DH :D:

renee765 11-16-2010 06:26 AM

Since I have become a quilter, I have gotten to know so many other wonderful people on this board that I feel like I have a whole new community that I'm part of.

Since I have become a quilter, the island in my kitchen is kept clutter free since I use it frequently to cut, sandwich, baste (not the turkey), etc. Just realized these activities SHOULD be done in the kitchen anyway.

DebbyT 11-16-2010 06:29 AM

I have included quilting in my sewing for 40+ years. Now that I am retired (1 year)and have the time to induldge, I have added to my supplies 4 additional machines, a remodled room, a quilting frame, a larger stash and it seems there is no end to what I want to add. I love being retired. There still is not enough time in the day. I also discovered this site.

bj 11-16-2010 07:03 AM

Through quilting, I've found peace and fulfillment. And Joy!

amandasgramma 11-16-2010 07:22 AM

Since I became a quilter, my stained glass shop has been put away and it's now filled with a longarm.

Since I became a quilter, I no longr feel it's tacky to see threads and pieces of fabric all over the house.

Since I became a quilter (and this is a biggy) I no longer have a desire to travel over the US to go RVing full-time!!! Yip - I'm quite happy to sit home with the snow and my quilting machine!

And another biggy -- since I became a quilter, I've met so many darned nice people!!!!!!! I no longer feel isolated in our small town.

clem55 11-16-2010 08:01 AM

the days don't seem quite so boring anymore, my bedroom is a mess, threads are everywhere, and little things like laundry, dishes and dust don't seem to bother me anymore.

Lacelady 11-16-2010 08:03 AM

Since I've become a quilter, I have discovered that one machine is no longer enough! (I just got my eighth today, an HQ Sweet Sixteen) I am off to find out if it lights up when I switch it on!

scowlkat 11-16-2010 08:10 AM

Since I've become a quilter, I've learned to take criticism better, that I have no favorite color - I love them all - and that quilters are universally friendly. Also I've learned that making a quilt and giving it to someone I never met is incredibly satisfying.

JAGSD 11-16-2010 08:15 AM

Since I have become a quilter.
.....I have decided that taking a perfectly good piece of fabric and cutting it into 2" pieces isn't crazy after all
.....that having many quilts and patterns that just "need" to be tried and done is more relaxing for me than chocolate eating for some(I can't have chocolate-miagranes and sores)
.....that though my hubby may say "More Fabric?" in the next breath it's "WOW, I like that one!"
.....that quilters both on this board and in general are the most helpful and generous there are!
.....no fabric/quilt store is safe once the bug has hit
.....No pattern is safe or beyond the possibilities.

Ps 150 11-16-2010 08:57 AM

LOL, I love them all! I used to have a spotless house, even with two kids and homeschooling, but now, there's dust bunnies on top of the ceiling fans...also, since I became a quilter, I have more hand injuries and small scratches/cuts than my construction worker father, .

Shelley 11-16-2010 09:01 AM

Since I've become a quilter I've met the neatest people - both in person and online. And thank goodness for on line, since many of the quilts I quilt come through the mail - for without the internet I'd know the quilts better than the people!

designingdms 11-16-2010 09:07 AM

Since I've become a quilter...I've learned to quilt for stress reduction.

Since I've become a quilter, I learned it's ok to have more than one sewing machine ( though I still don't have a long arm).

Since I've become a quilter, I discovered a hobby that childern can love and take part in no matter how old they are.

Amen !

QuiltingGrannie 11-16-2010 09:31 AM

Since I've become a quilter...

1) I've transformed my craft room into my quilting studio
2) Don't mind thread being on the studio floor
3) DH has gotten involved in searching for tools and displays for me (us)
4) Taken my DH over to what he calls the "Dark Side" (He's been to two quilt shows!)
5) Look at clothes and think that fabric would look good in a quilt
6) Started a business
7) Transformed our den into Quilter's Pantry (Longarm Business)
8) Hired a web designer to create our web site for the biz
9) Made some great friends here on the board and elsewhere that I never would have known about
10) Worry less about the house being spotless.

belmer 11-16-2010 10:46 AM

Since I became a quilter.....

1.My crockpot gets used alot more often
2.I find myself spending all my mad money on fabric instead of personal items.
3.My furniture has gotten use to being dusty.
4.I spend alot more time here on this board with all my friends.
5. I'm a much better person when it comes to patience.

maryel 11-16-2010 10:54 AM

Since I've become a quilter...I have to go to the LQS or JoAnns BEFORE I hit the grocery store. When I do cook, I make alot of whatever I'm cooking to freeze for those many days when I am still in my sewing room and it's 5:00! I dream of all of the creative projects ahead of me and this gives me such pleasure. My housework has taken a back seat but I am so much more relaxed and peaceful so who cares. And this board with all of you wonderful people has definately made my life much richer! Thanks everyone.

Gal 11-16-2010 11:29 AM

Since I became a quilter,
I have discovered a whole new world out there full of wonderful people. (other quilters).

Discovered this site.

Introduced others to the world of quilting.

Love to read quilting books and have read all the fasinating history of quilting.

Made a new best friend 'my quilting buddy'.

Started designing my own quilt patterns.

Gotten my husband on my side, made him a quilt and he bought me a new machine.

Converted the garage into a work room to sew and quilt in and also do my painting in.

Enjoy recycling fabrics, visiting op shops to source fabrics for my quilts.

I am sure there are other things which escape me right now.

Gal

Since I've become a quilter, my 40 year old iron and ironing board are seeing daylight! RARELY used them-if something absolutely had to be pressed I'd iron on a folded towel. Now I never put them away. (Still DO NOT iron clothing LOL).

LOL I had to dust my ironing board off before making my first quilt block

My priorities have changed... housework can and will wait  meal times can be flexible  and my life has been so much more stress free :D:D:D

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-16-2010 12:20 PM

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one scrambling at the last minute to make the beds and fake like I did some house stuff every day!

SuziC 11-16-2010 12:35 PM

Since i became a quilter....EVERYTHING has changed. I see paint chips as fabric not paint, eat very simple meals, don't get a lot of sleep, worry about finishing my project instead of how to pay the bills, talk outloud to myself more. Talk to my machine all the time. Check out fabric instead of groceries. Spend a lot more time sitting at my laptop on this site, finding more "creative storage" places then ever before. Yes, i am a "changed woman" and Love it :!: :!: :!:

deedum 11-16-2010 06:16 PM

Since I have became a quilter

I pass the mall & head straight for the quilt shops.
I have met many wonderful sharing & caring people
I have opened a whole new world of possibilities
I have found a hobby for when I retire
I have found I had to set myself a "quilting budget"
I found I can be obsessed with this quilting hobby if I let myself or if my dh wouldn't mind!

That is so me, on my days off. At 3pm, I have an hour to make it look like I did something and start supper. LOL

Since I became a quilter,I realize I wasted a lot of yrs before I started quilting.
Since I became a quilter, it's taken over my life.Knitting, crochet, sewing clothes, craftwork stuff given away.Magazines & books are all about quilting.

Since I became a quilter, I spend way too much time saving pics, patterns, hints & tips from this board.......& too much time learning from some of the nicest ppl anywhere.

Since I became a quilter, the UPS truck turning in the driveway makes my heart go pitter patter!

Maiziedo 11-17-2010 04:02 AM

I have become all of you. I love this site and like you am usually here or at my machines.

ka9sdn 11-17-2010 04:26 AM

You all have said it all! Quilt till you drop!!!!!!!!!!!

mar32428 11-17-2010 04:26 AM

Since I've become a quilter, I've developed lots more patience for my skills;

My color choices are much broader and exciting;

My knowledge of sewing has increased a thousand fold;

I'm much more content to just let the world's problems pass by.

#1piecemaker 11-17-2010 04:41 AM

Since I became a quilter..... I cannot open my closet doors without getting hit by a bolt or stack of fabric.
......Dust bunnies play tag under my bed...... There are enough threads on my carpet to weave enough material to make another quilt.......My butt is getting bigger and bigger because I can't find an easy way to quilt standing up........I'm losing my edge on being the best cook in the world because I'm doing less and less of it. I'm going to have to get a bigger mailbox because the maillady is tired of getting out of her truck and scrambling up the hill with an armload of packages....My DH will no longer carry out the trash because he just has to sew one more row.... My new book has only 1/2 of a chapter done and I'll have to re-read it myself to find out what is going on.....Since I have become a quilter..... my life is fuller and richer because I have found this place and met so many nice folks here..... Yes, since I am a quilter now...I'm a better person.

Connie Merritt 11-17-2010 05:12 AM

We all sound alike and don't wa love it. The silly things that I would worry about; cleaning house, cooking, (I am a person who lived with housedresses, preserving foods, home cooking, etc, etc. I am much more happier than ever. Today if the tables are dusty, I write myself notes in the dust; mostly "I love me". I am more content, no longer lonely with this site (love it), meeting more people outside my home. I could go on but I will end this by saying. I am so glad to be a part of a community that does so much for each of us. Goodness, Thank you.

Tinabodina 11-17-2010 05:48 AM

"Since I became a quilter" I have retired and now wonder how I ever got everything done when I worked.

ga447 11-17-2010 06:23 AM

Since I am a new beginner quilter I love fabric and go to any quilt store I can. I never have enough color. My house has lots of dust bunnys and I have to excuse myself from the dinner table to get back to my studio. I dream of fabric, fabric and easy patterns.
