Okay, here goes, I am a vintage sewing machine junkie. I surf Craigslist daily looking for vintage sewing machines. I have a 1936 Singer Featherweight in a table. A friend of mine has asked me to find a featherweight for her granddaughter.

Today I saw am ad for a Singer Model 185-J3 with a table. They are asking $50. Anyone know anything about this cute little green machine. Should I go get it tomorrow?

I have had one for years, it's a small machine but heavy. I got it for 20 dollars at the Habitat thrift store. She has sewn quite a few quilts and tote bags...never have had a problem with her. This one looks in good shape.

GO! The machine is a great one and that table is perfect.

The machine takes the same parts as a Singer 66 and a 99. The 185 is an updated version of the 99. It is a solid little machine. It takes class 66 bobbins and is a drop in bobbin machine. The table it is on can also be used for its intended purpose which is a serger table. I'd give 50.00 for the machine and table but I'd offer 45.00.

I would sure buy it. Lucky you to have a 1936 Featherweight! That's my birth year and I looked and looked and finally settled for a different year. Haven't done any searches for a long time & that's been a few years. Maybe I'll try again one of these days!

Here is a picture of my featherweight. I named her Miss Ruby after my mother.

Quick, call them and have them hold it for you! I'd snap it up in a heartbeat!

Thanks for showing the picture of your Featherweight. Like Grandma Bonnie, I was born in 1936 and so wanted a 1936 Featherweight. I settled for a 1952 model. I do all of my piecing on that little machine and love it. I hope you can get that cute little green machine.

Kathy I too am turning into a vintage machine.. ahem.. collector, scouring Craigslist for these treasures. I just bought a minty green Singer 15-125 for $30.00 with table. Almost mint condition with just a few paint chips missing.

I say go for it. I am still looking for my first FW score. If you happen to find an extra one (at a great price) during your search, please remember me.:D I'm not particular about the year.
