So I've been bitten by the bug of wanting to own a vintage Singer (y'all convinced me on my other thread that I needed one :)). My husband found a model 201 that's just your run of the mill machine. I'm pretty sure it's missing accessories and such but it runs great so that's a good starting point. It doesn't come with a stand or cabinet though. The price was right so my husband bought it (though I probably would have asked for him to let us shop around more). I really would like a cabinet to put it in but a google search has not brought up many hits. There is a listing on Craigslist local to me that is for a cabinet only which used to hold a 600E. I haven't tried to contact the man selling it but I don't know if he'd be able to answer my question of will a 201 fit in that cabinet. I don't have my machine yet so I can't measure it. Off hand do any of you vintage machine experts know?

Here's a couple pictures;

I am a novice vintage machine collector. I have a 201, so I went upstairs to do some measurements.

My cabinet is 26 X 30" when closed.
The hole for the machine to sit into is 7 X 17 3/4".
The depth where the machine fits inside is 7".
The extra piece in front that you pull up to place the machine inside is 4" wide.

I hope this helps.

Rachel, you are SO going to love that old Singer! :) I can't answer your cabinet question...but looks like Jan has come to the rescue!

Keep in mind that even if the cabinet isn't an exact fit, if your qubby is handy with that kind of stuff he may be able to alter it to fit. :)

what you need to know is the distance between the hinges on
back of the cabinet & the back of the machine. the hole for
the machine may be the right size, but if the hinges are the wrong distance, you have to do new holes in cabinet.

I PM'd you back, but you might not have seen it.

From the outside of the hinge brace it is 10".
The inside of the hinge brace is 9 3/8".

Thank you so much Jan for all your help! I went back last night to the Craigslist listing to email about the cabinet but the person set the listing up to only be contacted by phone, no email. So I'll have to wait until later today to call.

Thanks again everyone!
