I seen that the quilt show in Sisters, Oregon is in July.
Which leads me to this tidbit I heard while we were at my husband's doctor appointment last week.

I was reading a quilting book and he told us that he heard there was more drinking and booze sold during the quilt show, than at the rodeo the month before.

Wonder who was doing all the drinkin'?

LoisN 03-18-2010 11:07 AM

Could be quilters???? Could be DHs?????

Jim's Gem 03-18-2010 11:08 AM

I think it's all the "spouces" or "significant others" that got dragged to the show with the quilter.

I think I agree with this!!!

Bobbinwinder 03-18-2010 11:50 AM

Geez...things must have really changed since I had the great good fortune of attending this show with my dh. I admit that it has been quite a few years ago, but I know that we weren't drinking and I had no awareness of any others that were either.

Me too. What a funny statistic!

joeyoz 03-18-2010 11:55 AM

I have no idea where that came from. I go to the Sisters Quilt Show every year and I haven't seen any drinking going on. Hmmmm.

Charlee 03-18-2010 12:28 PM

There are "after hours" parties that occur...both for the merchants and the attendees...and I'd be willing to bet that if the statistic was broken down, a lot of the alcohol involved is wine...

As for "street parties"...they don't happen.

True, Sisters doesn't seem the "street party" type of town.....lol
Question though....

How does one drink in Sisters if one's nose is stuck up in the air all the time?..........LOL   8-)

Charlee 03-18-2010 03:40 PM

Nasal-gastric tube?? ;)

I hope so. I can't imagine firing up my machine if I had been drinking. Scary.

amandasgramma 03-18-2010 07:33 PM

Well, I'll tell my DH about that -- maybe THEN I can drag him there!! LOL Actually, can't drink on the streets in Oregon so I suspect it's the vendors and participants at the bar after hours!

Wine Woman 03-18-2010 07:50 PM

I've been missing something the last five years in Sisters! Wine?? I can bring a bottle to share!

So they say about drinking in the streets...what about wearing a camel back thingy those bike riders wear, instead of water its filled with booze...see more drunken quilters ............LOL

8-)

SuzyM 03-19-2010 05:14 AM

QUI - Quilting under the influence is not a good thing

grammy Dwynn 03-19-2010 06:36 AM

Okay, I fess up . . I do a LOT of drinking while at the Sisters Quilt Show. WATER, that is! Because it is usually hot!

Booze . . no way! I want to be able to focus on all the beautiful quilts.

retrogirl02 03-19-2010 06:45 AM

I don't know...I think there are some partying quilty friends heading out to OR!!

It's probably in the evenings, don't you think? Once you're in your hotel with your friends and/or significant other people probably kick back and tie one on----I HAD to add the Aunt Grace reference!

GladGrams 03-20-2010 05:04 AM

It was probably everyone trying out the Vodka recipe for spray starch.

Or, maybe they have finally discovered "the source" of all those creative juices flowing... ???

BobbinWinder, I have to agree with you. I've been to the Sister's Quilt show several times and I'm truly unaware of any drinking going on. They do have saloons/taverns in town but I just haven't seen anyone drunk or out of line. I'd say there are more folks "drunk" on ice cream and soft drinks and snowcones (Oh! ya, fudge is a biggy there too) because in July in SISTERS it's hotter than a pistol! Up to 119 degrees during the day and that area boasts of having had FROST at night at least once or twice every month iof the year! Let's hope the drunkards are partaking of ice cream and snowcones, not alcohol.

Charlee 03-20-2010 05:31 AM

Anyone noticed that for a town with such a prominant quilt show that there's only ONE quilt shop in Sisters? I know it's a small town, but it just seems hinky somehow... like no one else has picked up on the idea that quilt stores could be profitable in a town that hosts a few thousand quilters every summer?

On another note...attendance at the quilt show was down by half this past summer...the economy has hit there too... :(

retrogirl02 03-20-2010 06:52 AM

Charlee, great photo!
Sad to hear but imagine that the show will pick up again soon. The couple shows we've dealt with out here say if they can make the same as the year before, they're doing REALLY well. Travel is down considerably as people find things to do closer to home.

Vodka spray starch?.......Where is the recipe?.....LOL

Sparky 03-20-2010 08:16 AM

I have attended the past two years, but only the display, which I would spend the whole day looking at, then my DH would drive me home. Totally missed any partying!! This year I will spend 5 days at classes, but spend the night at a friends cabin and don't expect to see any action. It's fine with me.

minnow895 03-20-2010 11:29 AM

it must be a ll the people that are so bored they just have to make up rumors because they are so jealous of our talentoh well i here even is a good thing promps a person to do somthing better that gossip

Chasing Hawk 03-20-2010 01:58 PM

I didn't say the quilters were the ones doing all the drinking. The spouses sitting in the bar or saloon are doing it all.

Besides if in fact it was a few quilters nipping at the bottle. Wouldn't the quilt blocks be a little crooked and off center?

Goes to show you - - you can hear ANYTHING in a DRs office - - doesn't necessarily mean it is true <g> <wave>

amandasgramma 03-20-2010 05:18 PM

Yes, true -- but there's not a heck of a lot to do in this area during the winter EXCEPT quilt............therefore they have a lot to show!!!! :D

My sister and I go to the Sisters' Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon every year. There are wonderful quilts on display all over the picturesque town. It's a wonderful experience. The weather can be pretty hot, though. So wear sun screen and a hat.
We have never witnessed any bad behavior from anyone attending the show. The classes that are offered all week long before the show are terrific. There are hundreds of quilters in attendance. Quilters' mecca, for sure.

Cute dragon quilt at the show

It's NOT the Quilters....LOL

It's the non quilters I am talking about.....lol
The ones who were dragged kicking and screaming to the Quilt Mecca of Central Oregon.

I think he was pulling your leg. I have been to the Sisters show several times and have never noticed any drinking.

He said the "husbands" of the quilters. :)

Wine Woman 03-20-2010 07:52 PM

We only make red - would that be OK? Where is your little town in OR?

zz-pd 03-20-2010 08:34 PM

I so want to go, will have to see if finances improve any. Penny

Thanks for the quilt show reminder. I definitely plan on going this year. With that crowd, I won't be able to see if it's a booze fest, but I'll let you know. ;-)

amma 03-20-2010 10:13 PM

I know there have been a few parties at a couple of area campgrounds during the show...but they couldn't have been partying too heavily...most were in bed by 9pm plumb tuckered out from all of the walking all day LMBO I have friends that go every year

jraff 03-21-2010 10:00 AM

Maybe it isn't that the quilters are excessive imbibers. Maybe the rodeo people are teetotallers. Early to bed, early to rise....

Me thinks "he" has a bone to pick with quilters, and is bashing them some? hmmmmm........................
