Slidelock Ruler

My Valentines present just arrive today been wanting one forever. Love it, how did I quilt before without it. Do those that have them have both sizes, thinking of getting the small one I love it so much. Does anyone else have both sizes, I just got the large one to start off

spstout 02-18-2015 06:00 PM

I have both sizes and I love them both. One of my best quilting purchases ever.

marand 02-18-2015 07:06 PM

I have both sizes and love them. I use the smaller one all the time, especially when cutting smaller sized pieces. Well worth the money. There is a tutorial online that is very helpful.

Onebyone 02-18-2015 09:12 PM

I have both sizes. I won't cut without one or at least a cut resistant glove. Why do so many use a rotary cutter with no safety tool to prevent a cutting accident? One guild member scoffed at me for always using the Slidelock at workshops. She said she never got cut because she was careful and paid attention to what she was doing. An hour later an ambulance was called as she sliced her finger to the bone while cutting strips. She got a staph infection and almost lost her finger. That's a big price to pay for being so stubborn.

juneayerza 02-19-2015 12:58 AM

I agree that these rulers are the best resource to keep you fingers from getting cut. I have both sizes and use them in conjunction with creative grid rulers.

redneckwoman 02-19-2015 03:25 AM

I have both and I love them

Judi in Ohio 02-19-2015 05:08 AM

I have both sizes and love them both. Have no idea how I did without them.

JustAbitCrazy 02-19-2015 06:51 AM

I have the smaller one and use it exclusively. Love it. Small price to pay for such safety, imho.

nabobw 02-19-2015 07:03 AM

Just have the larger one and love it I don't need the small one

ManiacQuilter2 02-19-2015 07:45 AM

Just waiting for it to go on sale. Little pricey for my budget.

sewingsuz 02-19-2015 05:54 PM

I would love to have both of them. If I get money in April for BD that is what I will get

madamepurl 02-19-2015 06:16 PM

I have both sizes and the ruler and I love them.

rhilkey 02-19-2015 08:35 PM

I have both and love them! I also got the laser lighted ruler, it's much easier on my eyes

Teesside 02-20-2015 04:18 AM

Do you prefer the lighted edge or the clear version? I think this will be my birthday present and not sure which to buy. Eyes are getting less effective so I am thinking the lighted edge would be best, but would love to hear from others. Thanks

Rondie 02-20-2015 05:03 AM

Is lighted sidelock the one to get or the article ice sidelock?

Rondie 02-20-2015 05:04 AM

Opps! Arctic ice!

Onebyone 02-20-2015 05:06 AM

It's not really lighted, it's a green color that shows up in light. I have the clear one as it was the only kind available when I bought it.

cindyb 02-20-2015 05:22 AM

I have no idea what this is. Does anyone have a link to show it and how much $ this costs. Sounds like it's expensive.

I just googled it as I'd never heard of it. It looks like a nice piece of equipment. Here's a link.http://quiltersslidelock.com/

Onebyone 02-20-2015 05:48 AM

When I bought mine it was only sold in Australia. I paid much more then it is now. I thought, would I rather give my money to this company or to the ER. At least I have something useful if I bought the ruler.

toverly 02-20-2015 05:56 AM

That looks like a great idea. Thanks for posting.

Skhf 02-20-2015 06:15 AM

Is the Slidelock website the only place to purchase the rulers? They are a
little pricey and I don't know if they will cure my personal cutting tendencies to veer off to one side at the top

shy 02-20-2015 06:22 AM

I bought both sizes ..I use them both..I have weakest in my whole left side..Holding the usual rulers or whatever..The hand would usually give before I was finish..from the down pressure..that would let the material move..Now it doesn't take as much pressure using the sliderule..So for anyone with this problem..They do work well

fayeberry 02-20-2015 08:10 AM

I have the big one which I bought through the Nancy's Notions catalogue. I love it and thinking of getting the small one also.

Onebyone 02-20-2015 08:44 AM

When I bought mine it was called the Rule Steady.

AZ Jane 02-20-2015 09:41 AM

I have the big one, saving my pennies for the little one. I will say, it is well worth saving up for. Once you try it, you will wonder how you lived without it. Save a little in the sugar dish each month, even a couple of dollars, until you have enough. It is well worth the money and wait!!

madamekelly 02-20-2015 10:56 AM

Cool idea! I just bought a suction cup handle to use on my rulers from the hardware store. Same effect, keeps fingers out of the line of fire, and no slippery ruler from sticky dots from JAF.

nstitches4u 02-20-2015 11:46 AM

I have both sizes and I love them.

feffertim 02-20-2015 01:12 PM

I have both sizes and I love them. I use them all the time, I have the lighted edge ones which work well. Any help with my cutting skills is welcome and these rulers really help.

wildyard 02-20-2015 08:18 PM

I have both. They were the only things on my list for Christmas. I love both. I use the big one for cutting long strips and larger pieces of fabric. The smaller one is perfect for cutting smaller things such as squares for piecing.

My arms are increasingly weaker and these are wonderful to help me keep the ruler from moving on me.

Judi in Ohio 02-21-2015 05:51 AM

I have both sizes and I bought the lighter one - it is a neon yellow green that does show the edges better. Love, love, love them.

annette1952 02-22-2015 02:14 AM

Thanks for all the info. It is something I'll save for. Getting cut with your rotary cutter happens so fast that you don't know it happened until after the fact. Ask me how I know. I am careful as we all are but it isn't enough. That's why they call it an "accident" lol

cwcquilters 02-22-2015 12:48 PM

I have both and I think they are the best things I have ever purchased to use for quilting or sewing.

SusanSusan33 02-23-2015 10:23 AM

I hear so many good things about this ruler. Does anyone have a problem because it's *not* marked with ruler markings? I've watched the video and understand the concept, but moving the marking ruler aside over and over seems like it would be a pain. Any thoughts?

wildyard 02-23-2015 11:28 AM

SusanSusan, When I use my slidelock ruler, I don't take away the marked ruler, I simply lay the slidelock on top of the other one and it works just fine for me that way.

I cut a lot of strips using the slotted rulers so it is much easier for me to keep the slots in place and simply move the slidelock along as I cut. The slidelock holds both the slotted ruler and the fabric in place just fine!!

Onebyone 02-23-2015 11:31 AM

The SlideLock goes on top of your ruler. You can cut without a ruler with it if you want to.

Ahhh- I think I can picture it now. Thank you, wildyard and Onebyone!!

Until you use one or see one in person you won't understand how great it is. It works.

That is so true,I also have both . I use the smaller one more but very happy to have both. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Nimknit 03-10-2015 05:44 AM

I read this thread last week and went to the slidelock website and ordered the 14". OMG, this thing is great! I fussy cut the March block for Jinny Beyer BOM and it never slipped once. I'm a leftie most of the time but use my right hand a lot too and the slidelock works fine either way. I'm also coordination-challenged and my ruler slips on almost every cut. Not anymore!

Highly recommend you purchase one of these.
