Purplepassion is right, I have sewn them wrong and believe me ripping is harder than pinning.

My granddaughter bought a summer dress where the zipper is sewn on the outside of the dress. At first I thought it was a mistake, but the whole rack was that way----clerk said it's a new style to attract the young teenagers. Perhaps you can make a new trend.

You certainly are not alone my quilting friend!!!

starlight 06-04-2010 01:18 PM

oh that is so fustrating, I have done that more than once I am sure

sewmom 06-04-2010 03:12 PM

i agree with the rest- be glad you caught it before you sewed. my luck -i would've sewn a bunch before i realized it. just a comment-who told you the rail fence is a complex design? i think it is a very good beginner quilt. i would never call it a complex design,

Probably a dumb question, but why do you pin the strips all together? If I think I really need to pin them, I just put one straight pin at the beginning of the strip and one at the end. Do you chain sew the strips?

i have done that before and have sewn them together...well don't know what i was thinking..in a hurry i think. sew a little, rip alot...we all make mistakes just keep on sewing...

Sorry you made this mistake, glad you caught it before you sewed them.

#1piecemaker 06-05-2010 04:15 AM

I hate it when I do that so I don't pin. I sew one piece at a time. that way if I screw up, I know it right away.

Lizzytish 06-05-2010 08:22 AM

Been there done that but had sewn them all together before I noticed the blocks weren't fitting right.
Unpinning is a lot easier than ripping out. But just as annoying.

ForestHobbit 06-05-2010 04:01 PM

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

sewmom 06-05-2010 04:09 PM

I was finishing my last BOM and putting them in the proper order by lOoking at the ill. And realized that I pieced the star wrong. Had to taKe it apart and redo it. At least I noticed it before the blocks were all sewn together. Had one that I didn't notice the mistake until after it was completed for about a year!

betlinsmom 06-05-2010 05:16 PM

murphys law strikes again!!! Bless your heart,I would have sewn them together before I noticed they were backwards!!!!!

purplefiend 06-05-2010 08:18 PM

I was working on double sawtooth star sections and sewed
5 of them together backwards before I realized it. I chain pieced them with my Singer 201 treadle.
I had to frog stitch(rip it rip it) and try again.

Take a deep breath, relax and kick back with the frog. :-) I am so sorry. God bless. Penny

schwanton 06-06-2010 09:32 AM

I know this is no consolation, but at least you noticed after sewing one set - it could have been all of them! Have you ever considered doing them all backwards and call it "your inside out" quilt?
