Hey everyone, I have a question.
I have a hard time cutting even strips and squares even when I use a ruler. My eyes tend to skip between those tiny lines, and often my strips and squares are somewhere between 1/16 and 1/4th off every single time. I get it all laid out, and they just don't perfectly line up. I get so frustrated. I use a rotary cutter, a cutting mat and a nice Fons and Porter ruler. So I was looking online for some solutions, and I'm interested in this June Tailor Shape Cut Slotted Ruler. Does anyone else use these? Do they help the straight-lined challenged folks like myself, or are they a waste of money? Thanks! Kat |
Have it. Love it. And I am cutting-challenge.
They definitely work! I have two of them. I love them!
I just got one last week and so far love it  There are some other topics listed here on it- go into search and type slotted rulers  I have the smaller one 12x12 and will be saving up for the bigger one
Have you looked at the Altos quilt cut. It makes really accurate cuts. google the web site and watch the video
Ok, thanks so much! Next question (before I click the "Order" button at Joann's), is the one I'm wanting the "Shape Cut Slotted Ruler 12"x12", or is that not the right one for cutting strips? I'd hate to order it and get it and realize I ordered the wrong thing.
Feffertim, I haven't looked at that one. I got a giftcard for Joann's for Christmas, and I was going to use it to get my slotted ruler. So if Joann's doesn't have it, I haven't seen it. Lol
The only place you can get it is from the Altos site or at a quilt show, they usually have a booth.
I have 2 and love them! It is so easy to line them up and cut. I mark with blue tape the slots I'm supposed to cut at if I'm cutting alot.
I love the shape cut ruler by June Taylor...if you can, buy the one that is 12x18...you can make more cuts before you have to use the ruler.
It is amazing how fast your cutting is with this ruler. I mostly use it after I have cut and sewn strips, and then need to subcut. |
There are a couple of them. One cuts every 1/4 inch and another cuts every 1/2 inch. There is also one that cuts the width of fabric but it is 62.99 on the Joann site.

love mine too use it every time!
I have used the 1/2 spaced ruler for several years and just bought the one with 1/4 inch spacing this past weekend. They are wonderful as long as you keep your cutter upright and don't push against the ruler.
You can use a Sharpie marker to mark the slots that you want to cut in then just take an alcohol swab and wipe the ink off when you're done. I just lay the Sharpie on it's side and swipe over the slots. I use blue, red or green, not the black because you can still see through them.
I have one and love it, I always use it for cutting strips and they come out great.
I have a slotted ruler. It is in increments of 1/2". I love it! It really saves me a lot of time. I had a lot of strip cutting for my bargello I am working on and it really saved me time.
I am on my third. I use it for every quilt I am making!!!!

I love my June Tailor ruler. I can't believe that everyone hasn't discovered these. lol
They reduce cutting time because you don't have to move the ruler for every cut you need to make. |
Worth the money. Get the largest one you can afford (with a coupon or sale, of course).
I have the 1/2 inch and the 1/4 inch rulers - I love them! Use your coupons to get 40% off and they are a great bargain!
I think you will be glad you bought it!
I have every one they make and love them. They are perfect for people like me who always mess up with regular rulers.
love mine!!
Got it ! Love it! Especially the one for cutting squares.
The June Taylor are the greatest. I have two and wouldn't even attempt any more to cut strips without one or the other. My largest is the 12X12. Can't go wrong.
I have one and have a really hard time cutting with it.
Are there any suggestions? |
I have one and used it when I first started cutting, I never use it anymore.

It is amazing how fast your cutting is with this ruler. I mostly use it after I have cut and sewn strips, and then need to subcut. I definitely recommend them and have 2. They are used everytime I cut anything. Not only strips, but turn the strips around to make squares, triangles, etc. You won't regret it, believe me! |
Put a couple fingers on mat and rest of hand on ruler.
Are we talking about the sasme ruler? I have a June Tailor Shape Cut that's 12 inches square. It has slits every half inch. Once I learned to cut I never used this ruler again.
I really don't like it. What am I missing? |
