Remember, "Don't sweat the small stuff - and it's all small stuff"?

I am frustrated and am reminding myself that this is a small thing and I am sure I am not the first one that has had this happen.

I am making a table runner for my DIL. I have 2/3 of the top finished and noticed TWO squares are in WRONG. I am taking a break before going back to get out Jack (the ripper) and fix my mistake. In reality, this will take a small amount of time out of my life to fix it.

This is a small thing, this is a small thing, this is a small thing......

wolph33 06-04-2011 01:25 PM

it is a small thing-but I understand-I hate ripping out seams

nursie76 06-04-2011 01:26 PM

Been there, done that! You are smart to take a brake first. When you and Jack start back in fresh, you will have it righted in no time. Good for you for sticking in there!

mtspools 06-04-2011 01:28 PM

It will be fine and won't take long to redo the mistake, just wait and all of sudden you will say to self. " I am going to redo that table runner." You then will sit down and wha la it will be done. waiting to see picture.

the casual quilter 06-04-2011 01:31 PM

I understand. Sometimes the small things take a big bite. I hate unsewing, too.

Bubblegum0077 06-04-2011 01:33 PM

Yup been there, done that. My best friend's name was Jack, but I told him he wasn't welcomed if he worked more than me. LOL

roseOfsharon 06-04-2011 01:36 PM

Wasn't it the amish that leave or place one block in backwards or a different color in their quilts? ;) Saves the ripping

katier825 06-04-2011 01:38 PM

Is it something you can applique over?

I tell myself that 50 years from now someone will say, "that is a nice quilt, too bad she didn't fix that mistake." Then I fix it.

TonnieLoree 06-04-2011 01:41 PM

As annoying as a date with Jack can be, it will be more annoying if you don't fix your faux pas.

I looked at this one a hundred times and never picked out the mistake. I had reverse the colors on one of the waves. I didn't have the heart to tear it all apart (it was paper pieced), so I appliqued over it. No one ever knew!

sueisallaboutquilts 06-04-2011 02:02 PM

I totally understand!! Wow, you've been busy! I've noticed lots of nice things you have posted :D:D

DebQuilter50 06-04-2011 02:18 PM

quiltsillysandi 06-04-2011 03:33 PM

Did that with a purse I just made, ...I'm not ripping it out, I'm not ripping it out....and that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Thanks! I love daisies!

JUNEC 06-04-2011 04:49 PM

Jack (the ripper) is one of my best friends when I am sewing. Remember tomorrow is always another day

luvTooQuilt 06-04-2011 05:02 PM

Lol.. Hang in there!! Sorry your froggin it! Rip it.. Rip it... Rip it...

kateyb 06-04-2011 05:49 PM

Ahhhhh. The seam ripper, couldn't live without it. This last week I spent a lot of time ripping out the quilting in 2, yes, that's 2 quilts. Messed up big time. ARGG May go try to quilt them tomorrow.

hannajo 06-04-2011 05:50 PM

Thanks for the reminder. As I'm typing this, I'm taking a break from ripping out the binding for an entire baby quilt. I sewed it on with the needle in the wrong position, and now it won't wrap around to the other side properly. And I really thought I could finish it tonight.

But like you said, it's all small stuff...

craftybear 06-04-2011 09:55 PM

I understand, lots of things happens and sometimes just have to laugh about it, take care

natalieg 06-04-2011 09:58 PM

You are like me...little things like that bother me so much, but all my quilts always come out with a little flaw here or there! Gives them personality and the person knows they were made with love!

So I've heard - because only God is perfect, the quilt must have an intentional mistake since we are not perfect.
Therefore, all my goofs are "Amish mistakes" :)

Think about this a second. It's going to take just a few minutes to rip and fix. But how long would you stew if you didn't grab "Jack"?

as a friend says-------------been there, done that, got the T-shirt!

star619 06-05-2011 03:48 AM

When you see that table runner on her table a year from now, you really won't remember any problems you had with it!

Love it!

arizonagirl 06-05-2011 04:39 AM

At least you found it now and not after it was quilted.

quiltaroni 06-05-2011 05:14 AM

Great attitude, you can smirk when you are done.

Amen, Amen!

jaymemade 06-05-2011 05:53 AM

I would have done the same thing. "Jack"...LOL.

helenhiwater 06-05-2011 06:39 AM

My husband says that any car he fixes won't run unless he bleeds on it. I guess a quilt isn't any good if you don't have to rip something out.

purplefiend 06-05-2011 06:51 AM

you found the mistake before it was quilted! I usually only notice these things after its quilted. grrrrr

munchkinmama 06-05-2011 06:53 AM

I love that you call your ripper "Jack". I will start doing that. Makes it seem more friendly with a name - even if it is Jack the ripper.

Rettie V. Grama 06-05-2011 07:06 AM

I hate ripping seams. Not because of the time and troubhle it takes, but even with pressing, the block/blocks never look the same as a fresh seam, done the correct way from the start.

Sd much as I hate it, I still have to do it, from time to time.

aronel 06-05-2011 08:08 AM

I feel your pain, I spent yesterday ripping out 1/2 square triangles (84) that I hadn't sewn the proper seam on, just wasn't using my head. I took a break first also, it helps. Now everything is right including my seams!

grandma pepsi 06-05-2011 08:19 AM

I think we have all been there and done that. When I was making a 'Go With the Flow' quilt, my seam ripper was the best friend I had. Ripped so many seams that I got to where I hated the quilt. Kept the faith, never gave up, and now it is one of my best loved quilts. Hang in there.
