I can't believe this I ordered over 11 yards of material for a quilt I have been drooling over and decided to take the plunge. Here's the kicker: It started snowing here around Midnight and at this time there is over 12" of snow on my deck I received and email telling me my Material is being delivered today!!!!!!!!!!!! Really there is no Mail Man/Women in this decade that "No Matter Rain Snow!! or Sleet will Stop a Mailman" . well guess what :o( he's not coming today. Now that is true torture, but then again I could be snowbound for 2 years and still be able to make a quilt with all the stash I have. Talk about Addicted!!

amma 12-11-2010 11:30 AM

Up4BigChal 12-11-2010 11:32 AM

I'm just shaking hoping somehow this wonderful mailman of ours will find a way but I think It's wishful thinking at this point I will have to wait until Monday.

Up4BigChal 12-11-2010 11:35 AM

Yes it's crazy, My DD took my 4 wheel drive to work today then called to say that after her morning hair cut she was going to drive everyone who didn't have a 4 wheel drive home!! God Bless her but just get your Butt home in one piece. 40 Mile an hour winds not for the faint of heart. But what don't kill us makes us stronger right??

Turn the porchlight on for him and offer a cup of coffee and maybe a cookie if he shows up.

Tomorrow we are supposed to be 31 degrees, no snow in sight, just partly cloudy. Glad I don't live in Huron anymore.

This was taken at our house last winter,

I'm in southern MN and we have had 10 1/2 inches of snow and it's still coming down, the wind has picked up so it is blowing snow around. My son works for the city and has been plowing all day, got off at 6:00 pm and will be back on the job at 2:00 am. Then he has to come to my house and do my sidewalk and driveway. My husband just had surgery for replacing his shoulder so he can't do it, in fact he can't do anything. I have done more shoveling the last couple of weeks than I have ever done.

Norene B 12-11-2010 05:40 PM

Our snow is just about all gone, we had a little skiff last night and it melted today here at Custer, SD.

TXnsLov2Quilt 12-11-2010 05:43 PM

Glad you have a sense of humor about it all. LOL

Katia 12-11-2010 06:17 PM

I am officially jealous. I miss snow so bad sometimes. We get cold here in the winter, but today was an especially warm day. I have no idea the temp, but I got a sunburn on my forehead when I was outside.

If I woke up to a foot of snow I would be like a little kid. Snuggle up and make cocoa and wrap presents. Then finish the quilts I need to get done.

Jill 12-11-2010 07:27 PM

Here in central Ohio we're just having rain, but we're supposed to have sleet and snow and very windy and cold temps tomorrow. Today was in the 40s so I put out my Christmas wreath and flag. I was supposed to go to southern OH tomorrow to see my 4 yr. old GS in the Christmas program but won't be able to go with the weather predictions. I called them this evening and he recited his part. It was so precious. They are making a DVD so I'll get to see it later. But I will admit that I'm a little bummed because I really wanted to see it. Oh well, Mother Nature wins this round.

Good Morning! Edie from St. Paul here. Heard Shakopee had the most snow. We didn't get mail either. As a matter of fact, it is 5:15 AM and the City hasn't been around here plowing for the snow emergency. (Not their fault, we are truly socked in.) We had plans on what we were going to do to get out. We have neighbors who were going to help. Our one next door neighbor has a motor home and we were going to plow out an area big enough to follow him out (only to turn around somplace and park across the street so the snow plow can do our side. So we are going to be busy - both of us - ages 72 and 74 respectively. I didn't sleep well last night really worrying about today. This whole mess scares me - we haven't even done our driveway - can't get out of the garage. I remember 1991 so clearly and this has got to be much worse. Our son and daughter in law and family moved from Shakopee to Lonsdale last Winter and they are socked in and we had more snow than they did. They said it was really windy. He sent us a movie of a panorama of the farm and it was bad there, but it still was worse here.

My sewing area is in our front room looking out towards the east and that is where we put our Christmas tree. So I am going to have to close up my work station, put away the sewing machine cuz next Friday we are putting up the tree, so there is a lot to do in here, but for the first time, the shoveling is scaring me.

So inch by inch, life's a cinch - yard by yard, it is hard. So we will just poke along. Hey, we're the tough Americans from the Tundra!!!! I heard once that by and large Minnesota is colder than Alaska. Doesn't help me one bit!

Take care Minnesotans, Iowans, Wisconsinites. This was a really rough storm and we just can't rush through it. We were out for 3-1/2 hours shoveling and plowing yesterday. Today it is too cold. One most important thing, when the snowplow comes by and plows that everloving windrow into your driveway or carriage walk, get out there and get it up right away. You'll never get rid of it cuz it'll freeze right away.

OK, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go. Edie

My husband worked for the City of St. Paul as a Public Works Laborer for 35 years. They are so far behind here. I think back and remember we had a storm, not anything like this one, and it was Christmas Day and the City called my husband at his brother's house (we were celebrating a family Christmas Day) and told him the city was in a Snow Emergency and he had to come to work. That was when he was still getting laid off. So we packed up our stuff, our son, came home, he changed into his ever faithful Carrharts and RedWing Steel Toed boots and went to work. I don't think I saw him for 20 hours. God love our laborers, plowboys and crosswalk shovelers. One more thing, I thank God he is retired (not God, my husband). Holy cow, this storm has really gotten to me.
Don't let your husband shovel. The worst thing that can happen is that he will reinjure his shoulder. If it takes us longer than our husbands have the patience for, too bad. I don't rush. My husband has been injured on the job and there's a lot of stuff he can't do anymore, so I figure, hey, it may take longer, but I can do it. Take care, Miss Southern Minnesota. Edie

Morning, the blizzard is bow in Wisconsin, opened the back door to let dog out and she just looked at me. Did make it out and back in again (dog I mean). I quess I will have to quilt and watch football all day and then worry about digging out. It doesn't pay to even try until the snow and wind stops here on the frozen tundra. Go Packers.

tmg 12-12-2010 04:19 AM

If we get an inch of snow on the ground nothing moves here unless your an idiot.

redvette54 12-12-2010 04:31 AM

Just started snowing here about 2 hours ago. Hubby is a plow driver for the county and he was called in about 5:30AM, I don't expect to see him til 8:30 tonight. I plan on staying in all day, during laundry and sewing.

JUNEC 12-12-2010 04:39 AM

Will not tell you the temp here is FL - but it is going to rain this afternoon so a cool wave will be hitting us by tomorrow. UGH

Wondering about Santa's package delivery this year - I was at the post office yesterday - the line was out the door - there wasn't a clean area around any of the desks that wasn't overloaded with mail/packages - I wonder with all the snow you have up north if they are going to be able to deliver it?????

mic-pa 12-12-2010 04:45 AM

Here I am in Pa. and it is raining at 45 degrees. yesterday it was that warm and I went Christmas Shopping. What a fun day. No snow here. But they did say we might get some snow tonight. Feel sorry for those who are getting hit with this big storm. Stay in, stay safe, and warm and quilt your heart out.

auntmarie 12-12-2010 05:23 AM

It is cold here too!!!! Just had one nice sunny day yesterday and now the wind is back and temperatures dropping!! Still not as bad as you folks have it u[ North!!!! No snow here------so far!!!!!!!

KathyM 12-12-2010 05:41 AM

I live out by Litchfield in the country. I can't even measure how much snow we got, sooo many drifts. The deck drift is about 3 feet high. Then I have bare spots where I can see the grass. The wind has made some interesting designs with the snow.

mar32428 12-12-2010 06:06 AM

Can you believe in the 30's in central Florida? That's not due till Jan., Feb.

SandraD 12-12-2010 06:51 AM

I'm from the Twin Cities too. You win though...Shokopee got the MOST with 21.5 inches! I think we were pretty close to 20 inches. A good weekend for baking, wrapping, and QUILTING! Except for the frigid cold now, I love being snowed in!

OmaForFour 12-12-2010 07:30 AM

If they pulled the snowplows off the roads the mailman won't come. Make something from your stash and everyone will be safe and warm.

ShirlinAZ 12-12-2010 07:41 AM

Be safe and warm. Hope the Packers get to play today. Vikings won't be playing. I heard their stadium roof collapsed in one section from the weight of the snow. Oh well. The Giants were stuck in KC (rerouted flight) because of the storm. The best part of retirement: The freezer is stocked and I don't HAVE to go out when it snows. Yes, we do get snow in this part of AZ.

PattyS 12-12-2010 08:02 AM

I grew up in MO and always enjoyed snow. Then married with an Air Force guy and first tour was Fairbanks, Alaska, then on to Dayton, OH (more snow-happy camper) then ILL and to Mongomery, Alabama where if the word snow sent everyone into a teasy!! Schools closed even the KMart I worked at. Then we retired in East TN with very little snow. :( So as I sit here in our RV in Jacksonville, FL I want to go home because they are calling for snow. Nothing prettier or so refreshing. My special quilting time. Hang in their snowbounders!!

decky 12-12-2010 09:08 AM

My husband won't be doing anything for another 5 weeks at least. He just had his surgery a week ago Friday. I went out this morning and shoveled off the steps. My future son-in-law is coming over to blow the snow from the driveway (must be 4 feet high at the end of it) and the sidewalk since we don't know when my son will get done. It's going to be a challenge for him!!

baglady65 12-12-2010 10:16 AM

I heard just on the news that the Football game will be in Detroit tomorrow too! Also saw the cave in of the dome too!
