Last night I braved the crowds at Walmart to get 1.) coffee and 2.) thread. I'm a happy quilter today.

littlehud 01-10-2011 07:32 AM

Sounds like you have all you need. Have fun sewing today.

DebbieJJ 01-10-2011 07:38 AM

We're snowed in today, too. And possibly for the next 2 days, also. We went to Kroger yesterday after church, and there wasn't much left on the shelves, especially meats. We're retired, so we don't have to get out much, but being cooped up in the house gets on my DH's nerves. Me, I just sew and read the quilting board!

I used to live near Knoxville at Johnson Bible College. Wonderful town. Enjoy being snowed in---it doesn't last all that long there. The year I was there it snowed one time, about 4-6 inches, just enough to build some awesome snowmen and small snow sculptures but we had to use all the available snow to make them. They began to melt two days later and were gone in 4.

All the essentials!!

mommafank 01-10-2011 07:50 AM

Also snowed in here in the Atlanta area. I find it comforting to have nothing else to do but be inside keeping warm with my coffee and quilting or a good book.

lynndianne 01-10-2011 07:53 AM

We got a little over 8 inches of the white stuff. Around 2:30 this morning I got up and it was really coming down. After I got up at 7 I had to shovel a path on the deck so I could put the 8 bird feeders out. Have an hour later I heard a thump and went out to find a small bird in the snow. He had hit the window. So I shoveled a path to him, picked him up (just dazed) and brought him in so I could find a box to put him in. I put some rags in a shoebox and covered him and put him out next to the BBQ grill. I checked on him a couple of times and then he was gone. Did my good deed for the day. Love the snow....no so much the ice.

Great job with the bird!

Thinking the same thing but these e-mails keep coming in keeping me tied to the computer to read these posts.

CompulsiveQuilter 01-10-2011 08:15 AM

I guess you Northerners laugh about being "snowed in" with just 3" of snow - but the whole south STOPS when it snows. I'm expected to do nothing but quilt. And I'm in the middle of a project that I'm SOOOOOOOOO excited about!

AngieS 01-10-2011 08:16 AM

Sounds good to good to me.

amma 01-10-2011 08:18 AM

Have a wonderful day sewing :D:D:D

Sophie2 01-10-2011 08:33 AM

I guess if I want a snow day I should move to the south! We get plenty of snow, but we also have the equipment to move it.

mic-pa 01-10-2011 08:41 AM

We need several feet before we are considered snowed in LOL and so far this winter we haven't had more than 3-4 inches. Enjoy your time quilting

Having lived up north and now here in South---difficult to understand the craziness here.

If we could just hope that the plows would break down!

We have snow in eastern North Carolina near the Atlantic Ocean. It is great!!!

Mitch's mom 01-10-2011 01:28 PM

I'm just west of Knoxville on the Plateau. We have around 6 inches and my husband has 4 wheel drive. He took me to work then went back to the house. His work was canceled.

craftybear 01-10-2011 02:02 PM

have fun sewing and quilting today!

libthekwltr 01-10-2011 02:47 PM

Sadly, along the SC coast, we only have a slight dusting of snow. I was hoping for more, but am happy that, so far, the ice has left us alone!

Me too, but I left the north for a reason--namely snow and a good man! We own a convenience store so my dh drove his big four wheel drive truck to the store and stayed all day--I couldn't do anything but sew and quilt!!!

owie 01-10-2011 03:31 PM

Good for you. We are expecting snow tomorrow afternoon. I have nowhere to go.

Actually, as a northerner, I'm jealous. We haven't gotten more than 2 inches at our house all winter. I want to be snowed in. Granted, it will take more than 3".... lol

They were predicting snow overnight -- not a flake. Schools are already closed just at the prediction of snow. I stopped at Walmart after quilting UFO yesterday, picked up some white thread (gave one of my spools to someone who left their thread at home). My quilt guild stuff never leaves the car so I always have my supplies with me -- just in case. Also, had to pick up some food for my little ones, some cookies and snacks for mother. I always have a stash of chocolate -- just in case. Have four knitting projects to complete this month. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

michelehuston 01-11-2011 03:53 AM

It is supposed to start snowing here this afternoon. Will go to class this morning, out by noon, stop by local joannes for hand quilting thread and let the snow snow me in for a few days..hopefully. I must say I really hate snow but if it's coming, snow me in!

quiltingfan 01-11-2011 04:02 AM

I am looking forward to my first real snow storm. Granted it has snowed here a couple of times but we did not get a lot or I had to shovel the driveway to take my hubby to the hospital. I am crossing my fingers that nothing else will happen to him and I can just enjoy the snow coming down and sewing. I am so far behind already. My husband keeps asking me when I am going to start quilting again, he knows I feel better when I can just sit down at my sewing machine and just sew the cares away.

anniej 01-11-2011 04:10 AM

Here near Chattanooga we've had 8 inches of the white stuff and the back roads where I live are solid ice. I Was supposed to fly to Florida to visit my daughter today but all flights cancelled. I guess I'll just have to stay here and quilt all week. Not so bad.

kanakama 01-11-2011 04:38 AM

This is my first post. We're expecting lots and lots of snow tomorrow here in New England. Probably won't be able to get to work. Yay! Can spend the whole day quilting. YAY! Seems like lots of you feel the same excitement when you're cooped up.

thenonnielady 01-11-2011 04:42 AM

Didn't brave Walmart, but spent a lot of the day sewing...got a lot done, too. It was great. Today looks to be a good day, too.

ljs317 01-11-2011 05:55 AM

gotta love that Walmart!!!!!!!!!

Carol J. 01-11-2011 06:15 AM

Have to laugh when I hear a couple inches of snow has everything shut down in some areas. In Wisconsin we have all kinds of snowstorms, some light and some keep you in the house for days. If work and school are cancelled, it is really bad and we called such a day a FOUND DAY. we found out there was nothing scheduled so we could find something special to do and it was usually a day of playing games with the children and reading, sewing, baking and watching the snow pile up. We haven't had any FOUND days so far this year. But it is only the beginning of winter, it'll come.

I grew up in the Dakotas, lived in mid New England (for 10 years), and am snowed in in Atlanta (have lived here 40+ years)! After 7" of snow (a record for this area) we now have over an inch of ice from freezing mist/drizzle and temps not expected to be above freezing until Sat. Good catch up time so I can do projects when everything gets back to normal!

Here is S.C. we so rarely even see snow much less have 3 inches, so like you we get snowed in....It's not so much the level of snow, but our inability to safely navigate the roads. But here in West Columbia, its business as usual.

Me too granny! I've been trying to call their office this morning and don't get an answer even from the answering service! I guess
they are snowed in too.
