Got u all beat.... help out my friend at her quilt shop on Saturdays. Can't walk from the front of the store to the back without drooling over something new that came in during the week. Rarely leave without something. Hubby says I work there to support my habit:oThen I pass a JoAnns on my way home!!!! I love Saturdays!!!!!!!

Hey Kimcatlou--I was just there on Thursday. Hadn't been there in awhile. Think I need to go back . . .

I'm with you, I need to go to "fabricaholic's Anonymous" will you be my sponsor? Guess you will have to do it by phone since you are in southern CA and I am in northern CA, lol. My family has just given up on me, they just laugh and shake their heads. I guess the one good thing I have done is that if I die before I use up my fabric ( which is a good possibility since I have a store full of fabric) I put in my will that all my quilting stuff and fabric was to go to my guild and was to only to be used for philathropy to charities. It is not to be sold or given to members in the guild for their own personal use.

BETTY62 03-03-2012 08:02 PM

Well, I haven't crashed yet but I am getting so close.

My son's just ignore it-DH just laughs now-I am staring as I right this, at all the fabric I bought since December-I actually had to take a photo of it! I get so much enjoyment from it, and since I am not working, this is my passion-but it's getting worse! I use to be in the theatre and sing in a choir, but don't do any of that anymore, so this is my substitute. I just say I could have a worse hobby-I could spend the little money I have on shoes or jewelry or clothes, I could drink and smoke (can imagine what that would cost per month!), I could sit on my can and watch tv and pop bonbons, etc, but at least I have something to show for it! None of my family and extended family have ever complained when I made them a quilt or a purse/bag! And, I don't plan to die until I have used up EVERY SINGLE SCRAP of my stash-so they'd better be prepared to have me around for a LONG time! LOL

maryfrang 03-04-2012 05:27 AM

Same thing happen to me last week. I went for a yard of fabric for a binding, and ended up with a 6 inch square up ruler, a magazine, two cones of thread. First I have been in JoAnns since middle of last year. ICK I have to stay out of there.

I cannot tell you how many times Ive done that in the fabric store- only to have to run back in to pick up what I needed in the first place..

AND THEN........................ wind up finding something else you just can't live without!

bunbear64 03-04-2012 06:14 AM

with the price of gas so high, it would have been a shame to waste the trip on just that half yard of binding fabric... that would be my excuse!

Greenheron 03-04-2012 06:42 AM

But......but......but.....you probably really.....really......really NEED those ten yards.

jaciqltznok 03-04-2012 07:27 AM

too cute...drugged by the fabric fibers wafting through the air...

jlwheart 03-04-2012 08:59 AM

Don't you just hate that? I forget what I came into the shop for so much that my friend's first comment now is - so what did you forget this time? LOL

mimiknoxtaylor 03-04-2012 09:16 AM

"guilty" too :o

Well ... 10 yards of fabric, 3 spools of thread, a pattern, a magazine and some trinkets from the notions wall later  ..... I believe I was possessed.

HollyDav, your just making up for lost time!!!! Enjoy you new toys!!! Happy you are feeling better.

GiddyUpGo 03-04-2012 10:12 AM

I know, the ladies at the fabric shop always say "what are you making?" and I always have to answer, "umm, nothing, I'm just buying stuff I like."

glenda5253 03-04-2012 10:28 AM

Although I have been doing pretty good lately, I am well aware that the "fabric demons" are out there just waiting to pounce in a moment of weakness. I better find some wood to knock on...KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK...on head!

Doreen 03-04-2012 10:53 AM

We need to use blinders when we walk into a fabric store. I have gone in and actualy came out with what I needed
without a spontaneous purchase! The next coule of months I am going to go cold turkey and not buy any fabric. Wish me luck!

QandE2010 03-04-2012 11:24 AM

And I thought it was just me. LOL. Been there, done that.

happysteve 03-04-2012 12:16 PM

You know what they teach you in business school. . . Get the customer in the store !

KimS 03-04-2012 12:28 PM

HAHAHAHA.....but wasn't it fun!! :)

Daleen 03-04-2012 01:06 PM

It's hard not to buy other stuff. Have a sale and pocket the money for something else you want!

LadyElisabeth 03-04-2012 01:33 PM

Well, at least most of us walk alike, talk alike, BUY ALIKE, you get the idea

mouseface 03-04-2012 04:08 PM

its happens to the best of us i think we all have done this lol

HollyDav 03-04-2012 05:07 PM

Oh my QB sisters! Thank you so much for your support. Knowing that I am in such good company, I don't feel guilty at all :)

Sandynorm 03-04-2012 05:10 PM

that sounds like something that i would do, all the time!

Vanuatu Jill 03-04-2012 05:46 PM

Just back from the San Diego's Cruizen Quilters Shop Hop-my FIRST ONE! and spent all day with my sis and niece, hit 7 of the shops (out of 14, which we will get next week-end), and our vow to spend 15 minutes per shop (ya, just try that at Rosie's-that was 45 min), just to get our passports stamped and spend a little bit looking around, went out the window!! I just took photos of what I ended up buying-but, IT WASN'T MY FAULT!!! Those toxic fumes emitted from the fabrics that seduce you into buying really got me! I'll post them in a little while when DH can help me download them. Oh my, and I still have next weekend to hit the other 7 shops! Boy, was it fun, though!! My sister, who always laughed at my obsession with fabric, even got seduced-caught her fondling her fabric in the car!! Now, she says I am a bad influence!! LOL

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this:) I think it is therapeutic! It is what carries me
through the not so fun parts of quilting--washing and ironing the fabric and ripping out again and again when things don't match up. Nothing perks me up more than a trip to my LQS!

par4theday 03-04-2012 10:01 PM

That sounds like normal to me. We must reward ourselves for getting the UFO's done, and you never want to run out of stuff to work on, and you might get bored. But doesn't it feel good to have those done.

booklady1952 03-05-2012 06:24 AM

I think we're related!

solstice3 03-05-2012 07:57 AM

I know the feeling...lately, though, I am having the opposite problem...not finding what I am looking for.

stampinteresa 03-05-2012 10:48 AM

So true! I think I have done that so many that my hubby just shakes his head and grins. Enjoy your purchases. Teresa

karenpatrick 03-05-2012 10:52 AM

LOL!! I love the chemical theory! Never thought of that one before. I think I have used every other every other excuse though!

Ruby the Quilter 03-05-2012 06:36 PM

Sounds like we are all quilty! I can't count the times I said I wasn't going to buy anything other than what I was going in the store for ---- oh well!

maxnme01 03-06-2012 02:58 PM

And your problems is what?????? LOL
