So I went out to get a yard of fabric for a binding ...

In an earlier post I mentioned how wonderful I have been doing getting my UFOs finished since I broke out of my post holiday slump. I needed a yard of material for making binding for the last one I'm finishing. Well ... 10 yards of fabric, 3 spools of thread, a pattern, a magazine and some trinkets from the notions wall later  ..... I believe I was possessed.

erstan947 03-02-2012 11:26 AM

I know the feeling. I get blind sided every time. You would think I'd wise up...nope! The fabric demon got me again!:)

Teddybear Lady 03-02-2012 11:26 AM

Can't help but laugh. This sounds like me. :D

MadQuilter 03-02-2012 11:28 AM

I don't think throwing holy water at this one will expunge the demon. lol You did good!

Lori S 03-02-2012 11:41 AM

Blame it on chemicals/drugs they pump into the fabric shops. Odorless, colorless....

Handcraftsbyjen 03-02-2012 11:58 AM

You sound exactly like me! Hehehe

granny216 03-02-2012 12:00 PM

I only go to a local QS if I really need something. Have yards and yards of fabric and really don't need more but there is always that one fabric (at least) that pulls my eye. I really have to have a garage sale and sell some of this stuff. I don't quilt by hand anymore and I've got all those quilting needles still in packages and I think I have every color thread there is after 78 years.

pacquilter 03-02-2012 12:18 PM

I've probably gotten more stuff when I wasn't looking for it than when I was!

HaHa-I like that excuse-think I will use it next time! If that don't work, I'll try the drugged by chemicals theory!!

luvTooQuilt 03-02-2012 12:33 PM

Its kinda like when you run out of milk.. You walk in the store to grab it but you see other things you need along the way... then to walk out without what you came for in the first place..

I cannot tell you how many times Ive done that in the fabric store- only to have to run back in to pick up what I needed in the first place..

Tartan 03-02-2012 12:34 PM

YOU FINISHED ALL YOUR UFO'S? You deserved that reward!

I started laughing as soon as I read the title! I knew what was coming .... and knew it sounded just like me too!

Panchita 03-02-2012 01:29 PM

I've recently started working at a quilt shop, and ooooh the temptations...

I was doing a price-sticker check today and had added to my mental list of quilts-that-must-be-done by about 10 by the time I was halfway round...

:)

Sandra in Minnesota 03-02-2012 01:37 PM

I have been putting off going to Joanne's for that very reason. One step inside, and it's like a drug that I need badly!

sassey 03-02-2012 02:15 PM

No matter where I go when I leave the house I have to drive by JoAnns many times I have been know to stop to just look I am so happy when I just keep driving but than sometimes on the way back home I just have to stop after all their are lots of cars there and I don't want to miss anything I am getting better about not stopping beecause I usually end up buying something when I go in to JUST LOOK

Mickey1 03-02-2012 04:47 PM

Perfectly normal behavior.

joyce888 03-02-2012 04:54 PM

Ok, so I went to Joann's today to kill time while DH did some errands. "Just pick me up in an hour, I don't plan to buy anything" I said to him. Ha-2 1/2 hours later (no, he didn't wait, he left and got gas and went to CostCo) and--$145.00 poorer, I walked out!! Didn't help that the Quilters Showcase fabs were 50% off, and novelties were 30%-not to mention a few homespuns from the clearance table (still don't know what I will do with those yet). I also had 2 x 40% coupons so used those on 2 Susan Winget fabrics I couldn't stop fondling! I tried the excuse that it was the toxic odorless fumes emitted from the fabrics that drugged and seduced me to buy, but DH didn't buy that one. The manager, Jean, however got a laugh out of it! I bought all of it for purses/bags/totes and coupon caddies and matching coupon wallets. Guess I am going to start attending "fabricaholic's Anonymous" to try to cure my addiction - anyone want to join me? LOL

Join the club, I'm like that too.

mighty 03-02-2012 09:02 PM

It sounds like so much fun!!!

kathdavis 03-02-2012 09:38 PM

I haven't been to JoAnn's all week. That is a record I believe. My husband said that they will be calling to check on me soon.

JanieH 03-03-2012 04:09 AM

I'm guilty too! Has to be the fabric dyes - so addictive!

twoxover 03-03-2012 04:47 AM

jill-
do you have a pattern for the coupon wallets? coupon caddies? i need to start getting organized here....

betsey

Kimcatlou 03-03-2012 05:18 AM

IT'S EVEN WORSE WHEN i GO TO MARY JO'S!!!!!

coldquilter 03-03-2012 05:26 AM

Funny thing, same thing happened to me about a week ago. Best part is that I stopped to get one little piece of backing to finish a project and came home with a whole kit and no backing!!!

AprilG 03-03-2012 05:41 AM

Yeah, there is always that one bolt of fabric that catches your eye, and your breath. The bad thing is, when you decide to buy that piece, you need 3 or 4 others to go with it! And we won't talk about the thread, pattern, batting and backing. Isn't it fun?!

Oh! Been there, done that! LOL!

Elaine433 03-03-2012 05:48 AM

There is some sort of monster that takes hold of you when you walk into a fabric store. It sees you coming and gets you. It wasn't your fault. You were attacked!
Is there anyone here who could fight off this monster--or who would want to? Before I even go in for a spool of thread, I have to check my bank account to be sure when I check out with my $7.00 spool of thread, I can afford to pay $50.-100.00

athenagwis 03-03-2012 06:01 AM

Uh oh!! sounds like some more UFOs are coming your way soon!! hehe :) :)

Rachel

Suzbo 03-03-2012 06:08 AM

I go with alien abduction. After all, aren't we getting something to finish a UFO? LOL!

pls1946 03-03-2012 06:21 AM

Almost everybody has this same problem, I'm sure. If I could trust her judgement, I'd ask my non-sewing friend to pick up that spool of thread or yard of fabric........would keep me away from the temptation of those fabulous fabrics.

hoppa 03-03-2012 06:40 AM

Welcome to the fabric addiction club

lfstamper 03-03-2012 06:54 AM

Totally relate. I think they pipe in something in the LQS to take control while we are there...lol. Enjoy.

BettyGee 03-03-2012 06:59 AM

OMG it makes me laugh and happy to know I'm not alone. I go for interfacing and come home with at least six yards of fabric, buttons that I have no idea what I'm going to do with but they're super cute, another magazine with patterns that I will have to live to be 200 to ever get to and well... I like the drugs pumped into the store theory and I'm going to use it.

amyjo 03-03-2012 07:28 AM

sounds like me until I decided I better have some of what I have sewed before I buy more. Have had no time to sew lately. too many different surveys to do. work work work.

I got it off the internet, and am trying to find it again for a couple other board members. I have written you down, so I will get back to you when I find it in a PM. The wallet that matches is one of those free patterns from Joanns-they mass print them and have them just on pegs on the end of some of the isles or toward the front of the store. Simple, but I though making them in matching fabrics for the caddy would be cute. I want to sell them along with my purses at a craft fair or market in the near future. Never done that before, so I hope I can at least re-coup my cost of the fabrics!!

IdahoSandy 03-03-2012 08:28 AM

It happens to all of us sooner or later and it could of been worse, those weak moments. Now you are ready to sew and remember that slump you were in. Over that now with 10 yards of material.

oldbalt99 03-03-2012 08:33 AM

I greatly understand what you did. I say it wasn't my falt when that happens to me. I have to go fabric shopping for a new quilt, and I hope that's all I bring home.

KyKaren1949 03-03-2012 09:05 AM

I don't think you're POsessed, I believe you're OBsessed with fabric; just like the rest of us!!! Love it!

Nantie 03-03-2012 09:08 AM

i love knowing lqs have this effect on so many others besides me, there is no trip to the qs for just what i went for, but i love it and always come home feeling so happy and content...now if someone would just work on all of the projects i could really be content
