Thats my Christmas present. . . . . Then I can sit for six hours or so and just leisurely put it together. Sure is going to beat a beat up old ironing board.

Edie you are going to LOVE this table - i got mine about a month ago for my birthday (same as you: on sale plus a 20% off coupon). It took me over a period of two days about eight hours to put it together. Make sure you OAO is nearby 'cause I'm sure it will go faster with another set of hands! I love this table! I had an Olfa cutting pad that is older than my children (married w/their own kids - lol!) that I had lent to my daughter who some how developed a bow on one edge about six inches deep. I cut off the "bad" edge and now have it laying across the depth of my table so I can cut, sewing, serge, and with my iron & board behind to me, all within a neat little circle. But you truly are going to love this table. If there is anything that fosters creativity, it is having the right tools. Ask any carpenter!

Well, I had to work on my quilt for my department's Christmas dinner next Friday, so I couldn't go shopping at all!! Oh well....I don't really NEED anything at all....but my WANTS list is way too long!!! :-)

Fritzy 11-28-2009 10:40 PM

It sounds like everyone got some great buys. I made it to Joann's today & bought two rolls of batting, a five pack of Olfa blades, template handle, magnetic pin collector (to carry with me when I go to Sit & Sew it seems like someone is always losing a needle), red & green mini bolts, I Love Puppy Dogs quilt pattern (it is sooo cute I couldn't resist) & 3 rolls of Xmas wrap. Spent $52.58 but saved $73.07! I'm a bargain hunter so I love those sales. I talked myself out of a few things so I was proud of that. When I got to the store there weren't many people but by the time I checked out the long was getting pretty long. I guess I hit it at the right time. Can't wait til their end of year sales!

Good Morning!~ Quick question here. Could you tell me the distance between holes on the drawer pull? I am thinking of getting a different set of drawer pulls and knobs. I have another piece of furniture that a neighbor gave me and it has three shelves with an opaque glass door and a drawer and am thinking about matching it up as a set. Maybe white porcelain knobs and pull or maybe a colored set. I don't know yet.

Our Joann's is a small store, but the people that work there are just the greatest. They know everything and are very helpful. When I was at the big gynormous store we have in the boonies here (we have two in the St. Paul area and two little ones) and the place was packed, people were crabby and I missed my little store. I asked if they could ship from one store to another and they don't do that. I have been to that store twice and it was more than enough. I hope to heaven they don't close this one
down. It is the only one in the City of St. Paul, really! And we are 300 and some thousand people! So, I think it will stay. It is a necessity. They probably make more money at this store than the big ones!!!!! Oh well, I have my table. We had a neighbor that literally picked it up and carried it to our shed. And there it will stay stored probably until the Fourth of January - ST Day!!!!! (sewing table day). I'll probably take it apart out there and bring it in piece by piece. That'll be fun too.

You know, I have all the room in the world in the basement that I could set up the neatest sewing area, but I would be all alone down there. My husband might need me, the dog might need me and I'd be running up and down all day long! So, I just have my little space here and am as happy as a clam. Found out the other day that we have a Quilts for Kids chapter right here in the Twin Cities. Yay! I have completed three now, am starting my fourth and sent away for four more. We'll keep those little kidlings nice and warm! Also, this way the quilts will stay in the Midwest area. There is a chapter in Racine, Wisconsin also. They are popping up all over. As of two months ago there weren't any chapters in a Midwest nine state area. Now there are two!

If anyone wants to listen to an audio book while they are sewing, I am listening to a very good one - The Virgin Blue by Tracy Chevalier. She is the author that wrote "Girl With a Pearl Earring".

OK, back to sewing together 423 squares for a Floating Stars quilt. Have a nice day. Edie

mcdaniel023 11-29-2009 03:37 AM

I was pretty good. Only bought fabric for the back of a couple of mini quilts, a five pack of blades, some needles, two patterns and a quilt book. Everything was 50% off plus the extra 20%. Not bad at all.

geraldinem 11-29-2009 07:20 AM

someone had posted a picture of a 36x59 table and cutting mat, so I broke my rule of never going out of the house on Black Friday and went and got them both, plus a doorbuster rolling organizer. Some kind lady gave me her extra 20% off total purchase and I was a happy camper. To whomever posted the picture, many thanks!

wartycrawfish 11-29-2009 07:26 AM

Everybody check out Staples. They have the cutest little plastic starge containers for only $1 - $3. I bought several to put needles in, buttons, beads, and some for gifts.

Gilla 11-29-2009 07:57 AM

I was very good. I bought no fabrics or supplies, but they had Ott Lites on sale at 50% off and with my 20% coupon I got a fairly good deal. I need that light to rip out stitches on my latest quilt that I screwed up.

I went both days  Friday after work so no extra 20% off but got lots of flannel for Christmas gifts... Saturday went early and used the 20% and the 50% off for fabric that wasn't on sale ... Spent WAY to much... Saturday got thread, fabric, a cricut cartridge for my sister, batting. On Saturday spent 108. but saved 191. :D

Now that's what one can call a real savings...........

Naturalmama (Hey, can these be sharpened??)

my mom used to sharpen hers with a fine emery board or very fine sandpaper, before the came out with the sharpening tool. I have used the sharpening tool a few times but still not like a new blade

Pzazz 11-29-2009 01:10 PM

Finally got to a store today. Bought the last bolt of W&N, natural colour...I prefer that to the white. Several FQ's for 79 cents each, a C'mas book for my grands, and a couple of rolls of C'Mas paper.

Also gave them a note to be handed up the line to management in regards to their website being down since early Friday morning, and asked if they would honour the sale price on the sewing machine cases. I wanted two...one for self, and one for step-daughter. At a mark down from $89.99 to $29.99, I hope they will!!!!

I spent $227.95, saved $261.43. So I was happy with that. :)

Joanofpa 11-29-2009 02:42 PM

Oh what a sale! I got everything I wanted on sale so the big discount coupon wasn't valid however 20% off my total was really nice.

Got a bit more fabric, I always run out of white on white and that was $1 off per yard. Also some flannel was a great deal at $1.49.
And a few odds and ends I didn't have I read here would come in handy!
It was not only crowded there were quite a few men there.

Tink's Mom 11-29-2009 05:44 PM

I was really upset that the website was down, too! I couldn't get to the store on Friday, and planned to do a little shopping while eating lunch on line. I think that I will also ask if they will honor the coupons.....

sharon b 11-29-2009 07:19 PM

The site is still down... glad I don't work in that IT department

I tried to get on their site a week or two ago and it was down then, too. I got a message saying something to the effect that it wasn't available due to too many users and to try again later. Sounds like they need an upgrade.

There are no knobs; all the hardware are pulls (three); my husband and I were quite surprised they were of fairly high quality. The table pieces are all predrilled but I guess you could use knobs on the doors (the drawer might look kind of funny). The screw holes measure 3" on center which I think is pretty standard. :D

Edie 11-30-2009 03:27 AM

Thanks very much for your help there. From the picture in the JoAnn's book, it looked like a drawer pull on the drawer and a knob on the door. So that takes care of that little thing! Now I am trying to figure out how to get it into the house. I am thinking of bringing in the pieces from the shed one by one. It'll be a heckuva easier for me and the husband can't lift. This way I can set up in order of putting together.

Anyhow, thanks again for your help! Edie

crazicorn 11-30-2009 07:38 AM

A bit of batting, some basting spray, thread (of course). There was more I wanted to look at and possibly buy, but I was under a time constraint and just plain ran out of shopping time. :D

Yes, I think I was expecting that the doors would have knobs too. Some of the pieces are pretty heavy; I brought my box to the sliding glass door that had to steps, opened the top of it and laid the box down and slid the pieces out one by one. My hubby too isn't supposed to lift so this was a project I put together all by myself :D

Edie 11-30-2009 08:06 AM

I can't wait to put it together. Thank you for showing me how it looks in a home. Really appreciated that. How wide is it, I mean from front to back. Again, thanks! Edie

Rose Hall 11-30-2009 08:07 AM

I think I am the only one on the board who stayed home the ENTIRE weekend--didn't leave my house from Wednesday afternoon until I went to church Sunday morning. Not dealing with people the entire weekend??? PRICELESS.

Nice job, you must be a handy little lady!

countrymaid 11-30-2009 09:42 AM

I went late morning with coupons in hand. I got a couple of templates, BOGO polyfil and some Red Heart yarn. Less than $30. I was happy.

With the extension open, it measures about 32" front to back. I have a spare room which is my sewing room/office so I decided that unless we stuck a sleeper couch in there I was going to leave it open. I think it has nine wheels total so should be easy enough to move around!

LovingIzabella 11-30-2009 05:27 PM

Oyyy I go to JoAnn's every Black Friday. This year I got some flannel for quilt backing, lots of fleece for blankets and scarves, some new rotary blades, a few books for my little one, a huge stuffed frog for my niece and I think that is it. I spent $175 but I saved $430!!
Hugs
April

Edie 11-30-2009 05:28 PM

Thanks so much for answering that one for me! It tells you how long and how high, but never how wide. Honestly, I can't wait to get it up and working. Again, thanks!!!! Edie

No, there were two of us who stayed home the entire weekend. I don't like to shop on Black Friday, but I might have made an exception this year for JoAnn's. I need some flannel and other odds and ends, but was unable to go. :(

Edie 12-01-2009 03:57 AM

I wonder why they call it Black Friday? It sounds to me like we all had a great time the day after Thanksgiving! Why don't they just call it the annual Turkey Trot or Gizzard Blizzard or Leg up on everyone else or Stuffing Day or something like that! Black Friday sounds like everyone is lining up to get the plague or something! Edie

fktsewing 12-01-2009 04:49 AM

I was there when they opened---have not seen so many women in one place in years, but it was fun. Everyone was picking flannels & fleece and sharing when their cut was done. They even opened a line just for those with only 3 or less items to cut (that was not me)and everyone was chatting and trading information. I was terribly excited to see that there were a lot of ladies buying the flannel for making donation quilts.
In these rough times, it warmed my heart to see so many helping others. I got flannel for 5 pairs of pajama bottoms, 2 for robes for my great nieces,1 for a quilt for my sweet dog, and a couple to add to what I have for donation quilts. Also got some white serger thread, 4 pkgs of quilt batting for donation quilts, some thread and a couple of pieces of cotton fabric. Total cost was $50.00 but when I showed DH that I had saved over $150 he was thrilled. It was so nice to go and just take my time for a change. Hope you all had a great day too!!

I think they call it Black Friday because some retailers know they will finally be out of the "red" for the year and in the "black". Something like that anyway--I've never worked retail.

Knot Sew 12-01-2009 05:18 AM

I didn't even go to Joanns.... I bought a lot 2 years ago at .99 cents a yard and still have a lot left lol........

I have learned that most of my stash sets and I buy new stuff for my projects.....I have donated a lot of it lately and am trying to use it more...I just want more sewing room and all the crates and shelves don't help....but it was a great sale...I read the flyer  ;) ;-)

Rose...you are correct. It has traditionally been the day that pulls retailers out of the red, however, it seems that even Black Friday sales are having a hard time doing that for some retailers the last few years. :(

punkinsmom 12-06-2009 09:56 AM

I went at 8 AM Black Friday and they had sold out of the things i wanted as they opened at 6 AM. Oh well I guess it wasn't ment to be. Me and my money came home together.

jewelps 12-07-2009 06:35 AM

i think they call it black friday because a lot of people get black eyes trying to get the item they want

Quilter2B 12-07-2009 07:54 AM

LOL; I try to stay away but this year I was close enough to a large Joanne's (and had some extra funds) I just had to go. I can remember stories my father used to tell me about all the "old ladies" who would fight over that last sweater on the table. My oh my.
