Geesh I don't know why you are even hesitating ... if it is a good price, get it. One day you might want to give it to a grandchild or another family member ... will you adopt ME?

This is how I read it also. Discussing possible donations is not the same as already having donated something.

So if someone said "I'll donate $100.00 to that cause" and a friend said "ooooh ... let's talk I could use $100.00" is that right? It's the same thing.

Not at all the same thing as the situation described in the original post, IMO.
