I make quilts for my enjoyment. I usually do not keep them for myself. Everyone in my family thinks I do beautiful work. But I know better, I have been to quilt shows. But it keeps me happy and if Momma's happy.....

I think you have the best attitude, I also will never be perfect but every quilt gets better as I learn more things and every one is made with love for a special person. I enjoy the quilting process with it ups and downs and I don't want the stress of perfection.

At 78 I still play with fabric. It is fun to make a donation quilt as some one with little or nothing at all will really appreciate it. Hugs and keep on playing with your fabric and do a little quilting.

I think I am like you. I pick out a pattern I like for a block and then adapt it to the person who is getting the quilt. I cannot plan in advance what it is going to end up like, I do it as I go along, and there are never any 2 quilts the same. Each is a special project for a special person. Keep up the good work, if you feel good about it that is what makes it all worthwhile.

Nancy, I totally agree with you. I do a lot of sewing on charity projects. I make pillowcase dresses and Linus quilts. Neither are perfect but they will make some child happy or keep them warm. My husband teases me about my "job" as I often spend hours most days working on either project. It gives me an excuse to keep buying fabric and allows me to share my good fortune with those who are not as fortunate. Many of the others in my group who make the Linus quilts try and make masterpieces. They may produce one or two a month. Mine are simple. I use a child friendly print on the front and back it with flannel. I machine quilt them simply. My personal quota is 21 a month. The label we sew on the Linus quilts features Linus hugging a quilt and sucking his thumb. That is the way I see those quilts. They offer comfort to a child in distress or pain. This weekend I probably got 20 or so pillowcase dresses made. I will drop them off today. They go to countries where the children usually run mostly naked. This makes the young girls victims of men who only see them as sex objects. The dresses remind the adults that these are children and not toys for their amusement and gratification. As long as I am able to sew I will continue to make those two items.

Love what you said, and I couldn't agree more. I make quilts and other items for my enjoyment. I also don't rush through it so that I have fifty quilts waiting to be finished. I do have UFOs, but I'm slowly and steadily dwindling them down. There's only about half a dozen.

I don't march to anyone's drummer but my own. I do simple happy quilts too. Make lots for family and NICU at the hospital. Crochet just because I like to do it. Knit "N" (Nebraska) stocking caps for the babies at the local hospital (over 2,000 so far) and read a lot. I'm not interested in making museum quilts. I want them to be used and loved to pieces. I do love to look at the really intricate quilts but could never put one on my bed for fear of ruining it somehow. Each of us need to find out spot in the great scheme of things and learn to enjoy it.

No you are not crazy. I have been lucky to take simple quilts and with the selection of colors, have made very pretty quilts that I was lucky to have won ribbons in competition. Those days are over due to my disability so I am focus on charity quilts keeping them simple but pretty. Just be happy within your own skin. That is really all that counts !!

I agree with everyone. I make quilts to use . cuddle under and drag around. My SIL is a perfectionist so she is never satisfied with anything she sews. I am glad I am not like her because I just love to sew and nothing has to be perfect.
