tryitall 07-01-2011 12:25 PM

If you need a place to store it, just give me a holler.lol

lue 07-01-2011 12:26 PM

How wonderful for you! I'm sure you'll be sharing fabric with the rest of us on the board LOL. SHAKE, WASH, DRY on high heat (just in case...)

QuiltingJaguar 07-01-2011 12:40 PM

NOW I call that a LOT of materials. Have fun exploring new piles and sorting, sounds like you need to get a POD storage unit in place.

Jersey Gal 07-01-2011 12:53 PM

You're truly blessed to have that cousin that thought of you, and your DH.

If the saying is true - "the one with the most fabric wins".... I think you win. I could be wrong, but..... wow!

Actually. I think the lady that just passed won!

You might consider giving some of it to one of our QB members who is making quilts for veterans. A group in her area in Texas is building houses for disabled vets, and she makes a quilt to present to the vet when s/he moves in. Right now, the thing she needs most is backings - she'll even take sheets. PM me and I'll give you her address.

nhnative 07-01-2011 02:47 PM

Wow That was great

twixbar 07-01-2011 02:52 PM

What a nice surprise, good husband too. Keeper.

SandyinZ4 07-01-2011 02:56 PM

Hi Tammy, I think we all agree we would like to see pics. But what an enormous job ahead of you. Please let us know how the sorting (and washing goes). Send pics of your new sewing room, too!

dixiebelle162002 07-01-2011 03:20 PM

Lucky you!

OHSue 07-01-2011 03:40 PM

I think anything more than a car load can easily be described as 'a lot'. Thank heavens your husband had the foresight to take the trailer, imagine how you would have felt if he came home and said, well, I could only bring one rooms worth in the truck.

Haha, yes, it sounds like an entire store's worth of fabric!

I inherited lots a couple of years ago. And three machines. And a koala cabinet when my wonderful Quilty girlfriend went to heaven. I doing labels with her Name for the ones Iake for charity from her fabrics. Lovingly made for you from fabrics donated in the name of Lynda Naumann or all fabric on memory of Lynda Naumann or such. Several different varieties.

kacy 49 07-01-2011 05:16 PM

Wow what a gift. You will be busy for quite a while washing, ironing and folding. Have fun with it.

carolynbb 07-01-2011 05:20 PM

Oh my! That will keep you busy just looking and sorting thru it. Maybe you can post some pics when you have time.

Dollysquiltingmom 07-01-2011 05:21 PM

Sew happy for you. Please post pics so we all can drool. LOL  :D

writerwomen 07-01-2011 05:40 PM

It's moments like that that you know your husband is a keeper. I had responded to an add on freecycle for a sewing machine and table. When the woman said it was a big table I figured sesk size and my 13 year old son and I could handle it. She lived on the 4th floor of an appartment building with no elevator. The table was actually a cabinet the size of a beffet. We went home got my husband who managaed to get it down the stairs by himself without getting crushed. He has been game for many items like that over the years

Pickles 07-01-2011 05:52 PM

This is what I thought. My husband commented that he felt kinda odd taking this out of the house where the woman had lived and loved her fabric like I do, but now she has passed on. He said. It just seemed odd. I said. Well, I don't see it like that because quilters build up our stash over time, we put alot of thought into it and money. And when a quilter passes on, she would really rather the family not just throw it out, but get it to someone that will use it. I said, thats what i would want to happen with my stash. You aren't going to sit here and sew it up. So get it to quilters that will. He felt much better then.lol But its true. Don't you all agree?

Our guild had lots of donations that they displayed on tables and told the members to take what they wanted and leave a donation for the guild fund. I am glad you were the recipient and not me, but that is how I would choose to do it. Blessing of love and wealth to you.

I have kinda looked into some of the boxes and I found this box that has blocks that are put together. They are album blocks with signatures on them already. So I called my cousing and asked her to find out what group or guild she was in where those names belong to. And I told her I would sew the blocks together into a quilt and we could take it to that group or guild and leave it with them for the memories sake. So she is working on that now.lol

tammy cosper 07-01-2011 09:49 PM

From what I have been able to see in the boxes without taking anything out, cause I have no where to put it at that moment. There seems to be alot of fabrics that would be used to make blouses. And alot of fabrics for making like pant suits etc.

LOL!! Angie - My DH would have reacted the same way! :P
He would have told me that he did't want to contribute to my clutter and to my habit! :-)

ladyredhawk 07-02-2011 09:49 AM

wow how cool

sarahrachel 07-02-2011 09:53 AM

I guess you won't be needing to go the fabric store for a while except for batting! you should make some quilts for the family. After all, they were generous enough to give it to your cousin!

Joyce Ann 07-02-2011 10:00 AM

You are so lucky

cassiemae 07-02-2011 12:10 PM

WOW that is a lot of fabroc. I hope you have room for it.
:-)

SandyinZ4 07-02-2011 12:50 PM

I am thinking that if the donor was a long time sewer there is probably much double knit and polyester fabric there too so probably all can't be used for cotton quilts. Some folks still do make the double-knit quilts for homeless folks though.

JenJen224 07-02-2011 01:02 PM

OMG... WOW!!!

jojosnana 07-02-2011 01:31 PM

WOW

jojosnana 07-02-2011 02:12 PM

Jeanniejo 07-02-2011 02:17 PM

I hope if something like that happened to me my fabric would go to someone like you that would share and appreciate it.

judy_68 07-02-2011 02:24 PM

What a wonderful gift of fabric. Hope at some point we get to see a picture of some of it. Lucky you ☼

marla 07-02-2011 04:18 PM

Wow. Look at all the $$$$ you will save in Fabric and instead use for more cupboards for the stash. Congratulations.

sewtruterry 07-03-2011 06:36 PM

What part of OK do you live in? Doesn't matter I will come help you sort through everything if you want and you will owe me nothing but gratitude for sharing the experience with me.
