I haven't been sewing for a while during tax season. I work at a tax office and by the time I get home in the evenings I really couldn't focus my eyes on trying to cut or sew accurate seams. In anticipation of tax season being over, I decided to take my sewing machine in for servicing and to get my needle threader fixed (eyes are not what they used to be, lol). Got the machine back two weeks ago and didn't use it until today.....my first day back to the ongoing quilt class at my LQS. Hit the needle down button to start sewing and the machine made a loud noise and locked up. I rushed back to the shop where it was repaired and they looked at it and said they didn't realign the new needle threader, so they fixed that and back to class I rushed hoping to get a lot of sewing done in the afternoon. As soon as I started sewing again the machine started making a lot of rattling noises. The faster I sewed the louder the noise. It was sounding like something was going to come flying off the machine. So now I have to make another trip to the shop tomorrow morning. The machine was just fine before I brought it in for servicing. No noises and it ran so smoothly. Hopefully it isn't anything serious and I can really get some serious sewing done. Anyway, I am so frustrated. I was so excited to get back to my sewing....... Oh well, guess there are more serious problems in the world than my sewing machine. Thanks for listening.

frustrating

jillnjo 04-19-2011 04:50 PM

Now,that is very maddening!! Are you using your usual service shop? Sounds kinda scary if it comes home with new noises!! Hope they get it fixed soon and your back to sewing.

Scrap Happy 04-19-2011 04:53 PM

I'm sorry your sewing machine isn't working right. I hope they get it fixed asap once and for all for you.

Yooper32 04-19-2011 04:55 PM

Well, CA is just way too far, if you lived around here, I would sure see that you had a machine to use until they get your fixed and fixed right. Next time, before you leave the shop, try that puppy out and make sure it is really fixed.

mzmama 04-19-2011 04:56 PM

All the more reason to have a back up....lol

bearisgray 04-19-2011 05:02 PM

my sympathies - truly aggravating when one thinks one is trying to prevent problems and problems are created

Beachbound 04-19-2011 05:05 PM

oh no!!! and you have to wonder if any damage was done by that too. I hope they make things right for you...try it out before you leave this time.

goosepoint 04-19-2011 05:11 PM

Don't leave the shop until they allow you to try it there. That way you can find a problem before you leave. Good Luck and hopefully it will be something minor.

pocoellie 04-19-2011 05:14 PM

I think I would ask for my money back from getting it "serviced" and find another repair/service shop.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 04-19-2011 05:26 PM

What is more frustrating is that I purchased my Janome from them and they are an official Janome dealer. Trying out the machine in their store is a great idea. I will make sure to bring some scrap fabric to try it out before taking it out the door. With the price of gas, it is getting expensive in more ways than one having to keep taking it back.....not to mention I really want to sew!!!!!!!

sewnsewer2 04-19-2011 05:30 PM

Have them test it while you are there!

littlehud 04-19-2011 05:45 PM

How frustrating. I hope they get it right this time.

luv-e 04-19-2011 05:59 PM

Alot of great ideas here.... My prayers are with you tomorrow...

Painiacs 04-19-2011 06:10 PM

Yikes! Sorry how stressful. Hope they fix it!!

normasews 04-19-2011 06:13 PM

Frustrating, but hang in there. Hopefully it will not be anything serious.

clynns 04-19-2011 06:18 PM

Before you take it back again, go thru your stash, take two pieces of fabric and some batting and tell the service tech your not leaving until you try it out. I would plug it in and run it for at least 15 minutes the way you would do it at home. I wouldn't be making a third trip. Also, start checking now for someone to service your machine for the next time. Be prepared. That's the last time I'd go there for sure.

ladyshuffler 04-19-2011 06:56 PM

Boy, I hope they fix the issues for you.........May I suggest that you try out the machine where you have it repaired before going home with it....that way you can show them what is wrong right away!!
They must not make sure the machine is working good before they return it to the customer....don't know if I would do business with them again...................Just my 2 cents worth!!

quilter68 04-19-2011 07:17 PM

You haven't said the brand of machine, yet. When I took mine to the shop the owner sat right down to see/hear what I was talking about. This was immediately after service so they fixed it for free. When i first took it in the machine just needed an annual cleaning. All is well that end well. I agree with the others - take some fabric with you and try it out before leaving the shop.

It is a Janome and they are a Janome dealer. I bought it there. I will definitely bring some old stash fabric in next time before I bring it home to make sure it is working 100%. I took mine in just for a servicing even though it was running perfectly. I had messed up the needle threader but that was all....oh well. Wish me luck tomorrow. lol

BETTY62 04-19-2011 10:57 PM

I would be frustrated too. I hope it is a minor problem that can be fixed while you wait.

froggy 04-20-2011 12:29 AM

ohh how frustrating what machine do you have? i would be stomping mad by now ( i live alone and i can say that and I probably never would do it) so sorry. you really need to keep an eye out for a cheapie back up machine. thinking of you as I hand sew hems in a weddingdress for my grandsons bride to be three layers and I couldn't get my rolled hem foot to work. hemming 3 layers by hand ewwwwww

wolfkitty 04-20-2011 12:47 AM

Be firm. Let them know how frustrating it is to have to make several trips when one should have been enough. And then make sure it works by sewing for a little bit before leaving. Be firm but courteous. Good luck! I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. I can certainly understand how frustrating it is to be all set to sew and not be able to. ACHHHHH!

justlooking 04-20-2011 03:01 AM

Very frustrating.

Weenween 04-20-2011 03:25 AM

I agree try it out before you leave and if they ask for you to review their service. Please be honest about it,so no one else ends up like you did.I really hope they fix it for you very soon and very good.

athenagwis 04-20-2011 03:32 AM

Awww that stinks majorly. I work for a CPA firm so I feel ya on the no time till April 15th (or the 18th this year) thing!! :) I hope they are able to get your machine fixed up real soon!!!

Cheers!
Rachel

There is nothing more valuable than a sewing machine man you can trust. Sorta like a doctor.

Buckeye Rose 04-20-2011 04:03 AM

I feel your pain. It really sucks when all you want to do is sew and you can't. Here is hoping for better sewing days ahead!

emsgranny 04-20-2011 04:12 AM

Not sure I would use this repair shop again lol It sounds like it get worse everytime you take it in!! You may want to spend a little extra cash and find a different repair shop. Would be cheaper than having to buy new machine cheryl :D

carslo 04-20-2011 04:14 AM

My shop in Westchester tries the machine out itself and leaves the fabric they use under the needle showing different stitches tried. I hope you get back to sewing really soon.

TacoMama 04-20-2011 04:17 AM

I would croak if that happened to me!

And why DIDN'T they test it before allowing it out the dang door???????? Whew. I seem to share your frustration!!

CarrieAnne 04-20-2011 04:54 AM

Hugs! Hope its fixed right this time!

juliea9967 04-20-2011 05:21 AM

Wow! I would start considering maybe taking it to a different repair place.

Barbshobbies 04-20-2011 07:06 AM

I had the same problem with my repairman. When after 18 mo. and a threat to call the law, he gave it back to me. The first time I tried to sew it sounded like a thrash machine. I was NOT going to take it back. I looked it over, and decided to oil it. Thats all it took, after 2 mins. of testing it purred. When you take it back, have a piece of material with ypu and have them try it out for you!!!!!!!!!!

after 2 trips, I would definately try is before leaving the shop.

katieranch 04-20-2011 08:14 AM

Oh, Diane, that is maddening. Hope they get it straightened out for you, soon. Have a Happy Easter.

Judy Smith 04-20-2011 08:16 AM

Reminds me of the times that we have taken our car in for repairs only to come back with something else wrong. Happened more than once or twice. Absolutely, don't leave the shop until they have tested it and made sure it is actally repaired. Good luck.

Judy Smith 04-20-2011 08:19 AM

I love looking at all the pictures. This is my 16 year old Grandaughter with her puppy, Ari. Isn't she beautiful? Sorry I'm just so proud. She's equally as smart. All you ladies and gentlemen have such cute pictures of animals and all sorts of things.
