Be yourself. If you really like a new trend then try it; otherwise, do what you want. I call myself a renegade classic quilter. I like traditional but often change things up to my liking. A quilt should reflect your individuality, so enjoy the process.

I have one in my UFO Box. Thanks for the reminder! I used scraps and the papers/template from MSQ. Just not finished. Why? Who knows. :o

AccuQuilt has recently released a new spiderweb BOB die so my guess is that is an indication that this old style quilt is not unpopular. Make your quilt, enjoy the process, and enjoy! Let's face it - what is popular or an unpopular style quilt pattern today will still be someone's vintage find in the future. (lol)

I have never been a 'trend' person, so I can't say what is trendy right now. I just do whatever catches my eye.

This is timely for me because I just went through about 4 dozen old quilt magazines and pulled out all the patterns I liked and organized them in sheet protectors in binders. Very soon I noticed that almost every single one of the "new" patterns offered over the several years worth of various magazines are variations of old, traditional patterns. They don't go out of style, but each quilt designer manages to put a personal interpretation into it, and that's what makes each one special. The only quilts that tend to look passe to me after years have passed are the ones that too closely adhered to the trends of the moment. For a time about 20 years ago there were far too many quilts that had lime green and purple, and that can get old in a hurry if it's everywhere you look. Still, some people managed to give even those trendy choices a timeless flavor - beats me how they did it. If you want to do a spider web quilt, what's to stop you?!
