A few months ago, this Board helped me to find this pattern which was out of print. I have made four of the runners and decided to try making a reversible one. You just need to reverse the direction of one side, and then it works out perfectly. This one has Autumn on one side and a Christmas/Winter color scheme on the other side.

I have the pattern, the ruler, and have picked out the fabrics but have never started making it. The pattern needs more how to pictures!

KathyAire 04-24-2011 09:29 AM

I love your runner. Love the idea of a reversible one, as well. Thanks for the idea.

franie 04-24-2011 09:30 AM

Good idea and beautiful on both sides.

Reading the pattern is more intimidating than actually making the runner. I was the same way. Every time I read the pattern, I broke out in sweats thinking about it. Once I started doing it, and following the steps, it was not difficult.

auntmag 04-24-2011 09:34 AM

Beautiful, clever idea.

Your spiral runner is beautiful. I am confused about your binding. Do you put both sides together (rs together), sew all around (leave opening), turn right side out, hand stitch the opening? I thought a separate binding was needed, but by looking at yours...not so.
I like yours better because it would be difficult to find one fabric that would look good with all the fabrics in the two sides.
Do I have this right???

candlequilter 04-24-2011 11:36 AM

Very nice and I love your color choices. Both sides work wonderfully for the seasons.

Thanks,

To all of you and to JanetM in particular: Thanks so much for your lovely comments on the table runner!! A separate binding would be very difficult to do, not only because of color choice, but because of the narrow almost-pointed ends, so I do an "envelope turn" (right sides together, stitch all around leaving an opening of 4 - 6 inches, then turning it out and hand-stitching the opening closed) and then after gently pressing it and coaxing all the edges out, I machine-stitch all around about a half-inch or so from the edge - I use a quilting needle, and the width of my walking foot is my guide to keep the stitching even.
I also found the directions intimidating and have a few tips and tricks I could share if anyone wants to PM me. Not sure I can give this one away because I like it so much myself!!

Love your... runner both sides, very neat idea. I have yet to make one although I have the pattern and ruler.

I found several sites that have the pattern on Google. It's the Spicy Spiral table runner. You need a long 9 degree ruler, although folks have made them with a 10 degree.

Here's just one of the links with the pattern:

I love you table runners. If you ever want to sell your pattern, I want to buy it. They came out beautiful. You should be sooooo proud. I am green with envy.

I used the 10 deg. wedge ruler from Cheryl Phillips but the 9 deg. one can be used in exactly the same way and the resulting runner is just very slightly smaller. I may have misspoken in saying the pattern is out of print, but when I contacted the original designer, she told me she no longer had it, so I just assumed...... that's what happens when we make assumptions! Don't hesitate to start this project - they are so much fun to make and quite addictive!
