oh my....my job was a tough one and I had to travel a lot.....so I would get bummed....until one day a good friend suggested that I find out where the quilt shops were on my travels....and reward myself for getting my job down....oops....I took all my breaks in those quilt shops...ok, I got a half hour...I got real good at scooping out the shop and buying something....tee hee...Now I am retired and have a very ample stash....I seldom buy much new as I have a lot a home already....ok...it is a few years old...but who cares...it is just as much fun to stitch! and as the prices have lately gone up hugely....I just consider that I made a wise retirement investment while I was working...

I guess we all have our weak spots and I am definately a fabric junkie. However, like most others here I would not buy anything that I couldn't pay for right away. I have had otherwise intelligent people tell me they 'had' to buy something because it was at a such a great price....and then have proceeded to pay credit card interest rates for months and months to get the item paid off. Does no one ever bother to do the math?

I am definitely a spoiled quilter. I just started about 9-10 months ago and I'm definitely all in. I have created a sewing room in half of a bedroom (other half reserved for grandkids visits) and have acquired tons of sewing stuff since, including a $1000 machine, IKEA hack furniture, plus a decent stash and lots of precuts. I am lucky and grateful to be able to afford to indulge my new hobby (without going into debt for it) and my husband is totally okay with it and supports me as he sees how much I enjoy it. The one thing I need more of (and can't get) is . I work full time and we are very busy with our daughters and grandkids so I don't get to sew nearly as much as I wish I could. But like Barb2018, there is always retirement to look forward to and I'll be well stocked!

I do! And I love it! I"m like you Onebyone. I buy clothes when I need them and then it's mostly basics like pants, underwear, socks and shirts. I make some of my tops and almost all of my jackets. I'm not extravagant about shoes and purses. I have a lot but that's mostly because I buy things that last and don't get caught up in what is the "latest". I also buy fabric, books and gadgets when I want because I feel that it's okay and I'm worth it.

I don't spend my money on drugs, alcohol or men. I spend it on fabric.

Onebyone, I'm with you. When I quit my day job 13 years ago I quit more than a job. I quit wearing high heels...I quit wearing makeup...and I quit buying business appropriate clothes. I pay for everything I possibly can with my credit card (because I get 2% cash back) but always pay it off in full with the next statement. I love to quilt however I refuse to spend more than $9 or $10 a yard for fabric and not even that much if I can wait for a sale. Don't worry about what others think or say about your hobby, most of them are just jealous that they can't make a thing of beauty like the last quilt kit you put together.

I'm not a "spoiled" anything. I have 3 hobbies that can really cost: yarn for knit & crochet projects, fabric for quilting, & my Harley. I ride anywhere from 5000-10,000 miles each year, with 8000 about average. That is my costliest habit, by far. A major checkup every 5000 miles, new tires every 10-15,000 miles, & it really adds up. So I'm very careful with fabric & yarn purchases due the money drain that is the Harley.

I would probably fall into the 'spoiled' category as well. I buy what I want when I want it. Virtually everything is cash including cars. DH is the shopaholic. But on a small level. I don't buy quilting things for stash...I buy for projects. I have a 10-15 yr old computerized machine that is a workhorse and a (dirt cheap to me) FW as a back up. I also have a couple of other vintage machines that, again, were dirt cheap.

DH has no issues with anything I spend $$ for. Then again, if he did, he probably wouldn't be my hubs, lol! But I afford him the same latitude. We have minimal debt and only because it might be convenient for a couple of months. So, if that's the definition of spoiled - count me in!

Okay, I'm going to disagree with all of you. You are not spoiled...you are blessed. You have a talent and love for quillting which makes you happy. Sounds to me like you spend your $ wisely. You probably gift most of your quilts which makes others very happy. You may sell some which lets you replenish what you need to quilt. Now doesn't that sound like "blessed" rather than "spoiled"? :thumbup: Keep up the good work!

Everyone is spoiled in their own way. You have your way, your friends have theirs. So who are they to be calling ​you spoiled? (They actually sound a little jealous to me.)
