Debbie JJ contacted me to see if i would be willing to "practice" on one of her quilts. I reluctantly said yes. I am very very new to Long Arm Quilting. Her quilt was flat and very easy to quilt. She did a very good job piecing it.

I learned that using varigated thread can be tricky, my first attempt looked like I took colored pens and scribbled on it so I took those stitches out and tried again. Here's what I ended up doing. I did it all freehand. It was a fun project to work on. Thanks Deb!

Beautiful job of quilting!

jljack 03-16-2011 10:52 AM

Freehand? Wow!! I have no drawing skills at all, so freehand is soooo very hard for me!! I don't get even designs at all. Even after practicing for 3 years....I don't do freehand very often. I usually do my loopy meandering or I do pantograph edge to edge.

scowlkat 03-16-2011 10:54 AM

Awesome quilting! I would say you are a little more than beginner status! Love the quilt too!

suebee 03-16-2011 10:56 AM

erstan947 03-16-2011 10:58 AM

My Dear, you may practice on my quilt tops anytime you want!:):) Beautiful quilt and wonderful quilting!

bamamama 03-16-2011 11:01 AM

Well, I did cut the butterflies out and traced them on to the quilt top first. I've never done a pantograph but that is next.

Great job. The quilting really sets off the pattern of the quilt. I love the effect.

Mary M 03-16-2011 12:39 PM

Must admit that you gals that do free hand as beautiful as this makes me envious! I am practicing and hope I can do almost as good. Would make me happy if I could even do almost that good. Doubt it will happen though with the nerve damage in my fingers and hands, and then age. Keep up the wonderful work....if youneed something to quilt give me a PM.

IDquilter 03-16-2011 12:42 PM

I think both came out great, beautiful job to both of you.

DebbieJJ 03-16-2011 02:06 PM

Debby,
I just got home with my quilt, and I still LOVE it! I've shown it to my mom and 2 of my aunts, and they love it too. So now, I'm off to sew on the binding.
Thanks again for everything.
Deb
